The worms rule

Titan 13-04-2004 02:57 PM

Place 5-6 tanks and preferbly a few rocket-guys on the edge of the cliffs, and send out a lone vehicle and attract the worm... actualy, you CAN kill it in ONE shot... but the shot HAS to hit when the worm is opening the mouth to eat..

muaddib 13-04-2004 03:11 PM

You can kill the worms too by just shooting in the sand. And the AI of the worms in this game is really stupid. They ALWAYS use the same routes, check it out, it's true.

Stroggy 13-04-2004 10:44 PM

worms weren't that much of a problem for me
it only took 1 of my units.
now the words in Emperor: battle for Dune those were vicious things... you could easily loose an entire army if you weren't quick enough.

EDIT: well i bought the book today, the original Dune.
so far its a good read (too bad I got the version with the ugly cover)

I have seen only the movie... Is the movie close to the book?

Stroggy 18-04-2004 08:59 AM

I've never seen the movie
however I've ehard there are quite a few mistakes in the movie
like: the movie overdoes the characters
for example: in the book the Baron of the Harkonnen is an obese homosexual tyrant... but he is not stupid, he is quite clever...
however in the movie he is this disfigured lump of jelly drooling all over the place and (presumably) quite stupid.
I've heard the miniseries are more true to the book when it comes to characters.
the baron will still be obese, but he won't look like a monster, just obese.

Baron from the Lynch Movie:

Baron from the miniserie:

and finally
The Baron from the last Westwood Dune Game (Emperor: battle for dune):

so far I enjoy reading Dune more than readong Lord of the Rings I'm afraid to say.

The book is very good but I thought it sequels were not good. I never read them all but the three or so that I did read were bad.

In the movie the Baron is not stupid but he is a bit over the top. His nephew or son (I forgot which what he is) that rules Dune for a time after the occupation is portrayed as being stupid but this true to the book. The worst thing about the Movie is that it tries to get to much from the book into the movie. In the book there are a lot of parts where the characters are thinking to themselves about events. These are in the movie as dubbed over speeches. The actors just stare puzzled for a few seconds as you hear them talking in the dub. Very stupid and irritating.
The miniseries is not that close to the book either. The name Muad' Dib is not even mentioned and I believe the word Jihad is not named either (for obvious but false reasons). The entire Middle Eastern mysticism has been dulled down or erased. The characters lack an edge that makes them interesting and the story lacks speed. All in all in my opinion the movie is better.

Stroggy 18-04-2004 12:36 PM

well I wouldn't know.
Like I've said I haven't seen the movie or the mini series.
I've visited some of the rare fansites and most of the people there prefer the series over the movie.

I've heard the new books aren't as good as the original, mainly because they are not always correct.
(they also aren't written by Frank Herbert)

Indeed I did hear some characters were "over the top" in the movies, again I am not able to verrify that.

oh and if you are talking of Feyd... he is the Baron's nephew.

Icemant90 25-04-2004 03:56 PM
