The Fifth Horseman 1. The guest said clearly he was running it on an actual 486 system.
2. This thread has been goddamn DEAD for three years!

And as it's not the first time you dig up old threads and bring their corpses back up, I won't be as tolerant as before.

thebes I used to have the same problem, but it has been so long since I messed with it I can't remember. Try putting in 0 NOEMS. I think also MemMaker? in DOS might help. Anyway I got this game working in the new Dosbox .72 with sound even! But get this GNB 5 does not work with sound even though it was a newer game! Anyone fix this with the new Dosbox?

The Niles Great Naval Battles is a bitch of a game to get to run properly. One thing I know will cause problems is EMS/XMS memory. You might want to try the game in different memory version type "GNBNA EMS" (in DOS! can't stress that enough) if it still fails try using "GNBNA NOEMS".

If you still experience the problem after that can also be that you need to reconfigure the game's sound to your computers specifications. Run sound.exe for that.

I assume you play the game in Windows 95? If yes, try playing it in Ms-Dos instead.
When you play it in Dos, I guess it's the S3 graphics card. From what I read earlier about it, it's good for Windows because it accelerates the loading of the screen there, but it was really slow for games or any Ms-Dos programs. Also it's probably not supported by this game.
i have run the game in dos - mode, but there is the same problem.

I also tried to run the game on an older PC with an old Trident graphic card,
but on this PC, the game crashed after intro.
