Ah, I'm feeling helpful today, what the heck.

Everyone remember that in this game, anything you type into your box is what you say out loud.

So to use the communicator, if it's on, just say "Kirk to (whoever)." You can also say things like "Kirk to engineering" or "Kitk to sickbay" and whoever is in there will answer. Same with the intercom. To end the conversation just say "Kirk out" or address someone else, or don't worry about it and just keep going about your business.

This is a bit different from other text games where you'd say things like "get object" or "look at room". "walk south", etc. In Kobayashi ,*actions* are done with function keys (look, shoot, use), movement is done with arrow keys. Talking out loud is the only time you type something.

Everyone got that?

hey, has anyone been playing this? im wondering around some planets but i cant get to certain positions on the planets because the "step size" i have is too great, so if im at say position 1000 and i want to move to position 1200 but my step size is 300 i can't get to that position...any ideas how can i change this step size?

thanks k:

You shouldn't need to worry about it. In this game, you just have to get close enough. So if you see an object at 1200, being at 1300 should be good enough. Step size is entirely determined by what sort of environment you're in.

If it's REALLY a problem for whatever reason, you could beam back up, have the transporter guy set the coords to exactly where you want to be, and beam back down.

ToddP The release date given for this game is wrong here. It was released in 1985, not 1987. I know this because I can remember playing it in 1985 and I still have the original documentation which was copyrighted for that year.

Guest I bought this and played it on an IBM PCjr back in the day. The shuttle is destroyed and stays that way.

Some of the planets are sort of interesting, and you have to do stuff like wear the correct outfit for the environment. But planets like Orta are just a big expanse of nothingness except for very small areas.

One interesting thing to do is to tell everyone to fan out. This causes your away team to explore the surface, even though they don't really fan out since they tend to stay together in one big herd.

You can also go to the transporter room and try to beam up things. It's especially funny if you beam up characters you haven't even met yet (but have in previous games). They appear and then disappear a second later.

For all the hours I played this game, I never managed to beat it although I'm somewhat certain I knew the technique to do it. Most puzzles I never managed to finish due to the sheer immensity of some planets. For instance, Spock gets kidnapped at one point and although I could get him to tell me where he was and describe his surroundings, I could never manage to free him.

You can also teleport into walls and die. You can shoot a vial of antimatter found in engineering and blow yourself to pieces. It's a pretty fun game.

sal_paradise51 well ive found a list of commands but i cant figure how to launch the shuttle!!.LOL i can get into it. When i ask for a damage report, it says a shuttle is destroyed...grrrr. Quite a bit better than the game though!
