You need to run the game in a DOS environment. First step, get DOSBox
http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1

Then read the guide here
http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=17476

Then ask if you need more help

The Fifth Horseman No, you just have to mount something - ANYTHING - as your CD drive. The letter should be irrelevant in this case, the game just expects the presence of one.

Side note: DOSBox drive letters do not have anything to do with the drive letters on your real machine. It's recommended that you letter your mounts starting with C, with a mounted optical drive (or disc image) as your D.

Downloaded version

I don't have a "CD" as a downloaded the game from here.

So I have mounted "mount o o:\games\steel2" in order to mount the proper file location. However, I get the "Steel Panthers 2 needs a cd drive" as a previous poster mentioned.

Do I need to make some sort of a cd? Or what line of text would I need to input to create a cd image via dosbox?

Yes, mount a cd drive of your extracted SP2 files with the mount command. So you need to mount a C drive(hard drive) and a D drive (cdrom).
My Dosbox autoexec area looks like this for playing SP2.

ver set 6 20
mount C G:\DOS
mount D G:\DOS\cdrom\Sp2 -t cdrom
C:
CD STEEL2
STEEL2.EXE

Most of the video and audio are stored on the cdrom, so it's looking for it to find them.

Maybe mount a CD drive as suggested in the game sheet?

dkw To improve your chances of spotting the ATGM Teams, you have to have Infantry riding ON your Tanks. Load small RECON Squads onto your Tanks. If you are lucky, the Recon Squads will spot the ATGM Teams.

Helicopters are required, there is no safe way around it.

Your last option for spotting would be to buy a bunch of Strike Elements before deployment. Then call in 1 Air Strike to fly over and bomb the area you think the ATGM is. As the Air Strike flies by, it will spot other units as well, but that information will only last 1 turn if you don't get your other units to spots where they can also see the units.

Always keep your Tanks Front Armor pointing towards the enemy as much as possible, to minimize casualties. That means micromanaging their movement, 1 hex at a time.

Don't forget your Artillery. Have it drop Smoke in front of your main line of advance. Smoke blocks MOST units Line of Sight, but does NOT block ALL Line of Sight, specificly American Armor and Helicopters of 1980s and beyond can see through Smoke.

Also, keep your units hidden as much as possible. Keep them behind forests, hills, and buildings so they can sneak closer with fewer opportunities to be attacked.
