Grandmastersik CONQUERED!

All I can do is apologise to all the folks here for the needless pain I've caused them and curse Microsoft a thousand times over for their crappy Service Pack 2 (SP2). Honestly, my system's crashed both times I've tried to install it - despite having all of the necessary hotfixes - and I suppose on my last reloading, I forgot to download the graphics driver from ASROCK.com who made my motherboard.

Ancient Evil now PLAYS FINE and I'm loving it. I'm not very good at it (my thief has croacked twice on the first level already), but I'm glad to say that this problem has been CRACKED!

Cheers to all that assisted - special thanks to Eagle of Fire, Yamcha and JXX,

Rogue What's your graphic card?

Try also to change color depth to 256 colors. For some games it helps.

Grandmastersik Okay, so by changing the screen resolution to 680 x 800 (or something like that), I managed to make the whole thing an awkward, ugly, bulky mess on my new flat-screen, BUT it did go onto the first screen of the actual game. YAY!

My problem now is that the game is COMPLETELY FROZEN! I can't do anything, regardless of what I press or click. I don't have a cursor on the screen (like the screen shots), and no music plays either.

I've tried downloading this game from here a couple of times incase something came down corrupted, but it makes no difference.

I've downloaded a few titles from here, and aside from, BODY BLOWS, which simply wouldn't work, and BLOOD OMEN, that kept on demanding a CD, despite my over-writing the exe with the crack (though others had this problem too, so I'm not so worried about that one (just a bit gutted that I can't play it), everything has worked fine.

My dxdiag probe informed me of the following, and I'm now guessing that the solution lies buried here:

DirectX Files Tab: The file qasf.dll is an old version, which could cause problems. You should reinstall DirectX to get the latest version.
Display Tab 1: The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.
Sound Tab 1: No problems found.
Music Tab: No problems found.
Input Tab: No problems found.
Network Tab: No problems found.

Okay, so if someone could tell me how to update - since I JUST DID, then I'll be much obliged.
Furthermore, what's all this talk of a "gemeric driver"? I'm sure one of you armchair geniuses out there know all the answers...

Omuletzu If you get it to work, please notify us, so we can prevent such problems.
Sorry it didn't work

Eagle of Fire No problems, we are here to help.

I'm only sorry that it still doesn't work.

Grandmastersik Thanks, Eagle, and thanks, Yamcha - had you not suggested the "dxdiag", I'd still be wondering if Eagle meant ACTIVEX instead.

I've just downloaded and installed version 9, but the 3D engine is still not working on my machine. Seems that I'm going to have to reinstall my video card or something, which perplexes me further, as films play fine on the PC.

I understand now why JX gets so frustrated with newbies...

Again, thanks for all the halp, everyone.

Eagle of Fire Thanks for proving me right Grandmastersik, but we are not even more clued about this than you. I might even have a solution for you.

In the related game thread some people seems to have trouble running the game and, from what I can get, it might be related to a low version of DirecX. Do you have DirectX 9 or higher installed on your computer?

If no, you might want to consider upgrading to the latest version of DirectX as it might solve your problem.

Grandmastersik Please, no more squabbling, you're obviously BOTH more clued up about this all than I am, which was the reason I posted here in the first place.

The web page indicated that I should click PROPERTIES, then select, WIN 95 COMPATIBLE. I did this, it doesn't work. I've not tried running it in any DOS format, as I figured there was no need; Fire had a good point and Broom-Broom should calm down: yes, I'm a newbie; no, I'm not a simpleton.

The problem remains. The bickering can please desist.

JJXB thats half the reason i don't like to work with newbies and why are you so easy to annoy?

Eagle of Fire The point is a newbie could have tryied to make it run with VDMSound, for example, and wonder why it's not working.

Not everyone seems to be gifted like you. Lots of computer users I know don't even know what XP is, all they know is how to fire mIRC and MSN and use them. And as long as those two programs work, they would not care less about what else is happening on their system.
