Topic Review (Newest First)

Microprose Veteran If I download a game, it's because of a one or more of the given reasons, and perhaps one or two more.

If I've never seen the game before, the review and screenshots are very important to me, as important as when I'm glancing over new games in games' magazines.

If I know the game from earlier days, I may download it for nostalgia's sake.

Doc Adrian I look at the genre first..I am not really an action game person then I look at the screenshots and read the review and unless it both looks really awful and sounds really awful I am usually willing to give it a try (though honestly I try most of anything once if I can)

tazzy_s screenshots are the biggest seller by far , esp if it's games you never played before

BeefontheBone Me too - for these old games screenies play a very small part for me, it's more about the review. If the review makes me laugh that's always a bonus, and it has to have a balanced appraisal of positive and negative points - that's why I like the things on AR because they force reviewers to think about them.

TBH I haven't downloaded anything from here for a while though - nothing's really taken my fancy. sometimes things do when I'm editing the reviews for grammar though.

Tom Henrik I completely agree with Rinforzando!

Welcome to the site, by the way.

Rinforzando For me, its a combination of things. If I've been looking for it or remember playing it when I was younger, then I'll wan't to download it straight away. If it's a game I haven't seen before, then I'll trust the reviewer and the screenshots. When it comes down to it, these games don't take long to download, so if you don't like it then you haven't wasted much time. If you're not sure, then why not suck it and see?

Caged I go by both the looks, type of gameplay, and rating its gotten. That goes for both games and hardware. I don't buy anything wihtout first checking the reviews and ratings

wormpaul When you can trust reviewers we got a problem..

It's more based on the feeling of an editor and he should explain the type of gameplay...so you can see if you like it or not...and not only his judgement

Omuletzu The most important thing for me when deciding whether to dl a game or not are the screenshots! This is the only thing that counts.Of course if it's a game that i was looking for, i will dl it immediately.
I don't trust reviews, because they only reflect the editor's choice. And besides by looking at the graphics you can really tell if it's a good game or not.You can also find out many things about it's gameplay, and whether or not it has that special "DOS game" feeling
