Disaster Red Alert 2 works fine for me on XP Pro with SP2. On my friends computer though it doesn't work, it just gives a blank screen and then crashes. He has upgraded his video card to the same model as me, reinstalled xp and hasn't had any luck. This suggests that it is likely to be a hardware issue, probably the motherboard.

Scoochi2 I have the original RA2, from when it was first released. I can install it on XPSP2 no problem, but the game frequently crashes when there is a video in-game, ie (incoming messages where the map is). It doesn't always do it, though.

WildZeppelin I had this problem too. Ran it in win98 compat mode and it worked for a bit. I got a few missions in, but came to a point where in-game the whole thing locks up. Nothing I've done has gotten it to work properly since. Biggest drawback to computers is the lack of game support from companies who sell games and want you to remain loyal....hm...

BeefontheBone makes sense to run dxdiag on your machine and on his then, and see where the two outputs differ to see if you can work out the difference(s).

Rebelstar Nope, DX9.0c isn't the problem. A friend tried it out on his PC (which also has XP and DX9.0c installed) and it worked perfectly. I still have no idea why it's stopped working on my PC.

Rebelstar A poster on a different forum has suggested that updating your version of Direct X may cause problems. I installed DX9.0c about ten days ago, just to run 3DMark05. Previous to that I had DX9.0b installed (and RA2 DID run).

What do you reckon? Coincidence?
