The Fifth Horseman I'm going to install Win98 on my modern PC... I guess that will help out with a lot of compatibility problems.

troop18546 Well if M.A.X.2 works for me, M.A.X.1 would surely do too.

Master MC You would not believe how much effort we put in making M.A.X. run on our computers a few years ago! I hadn't heard of DOSBox by then. All I can tell you is that we didn't succeed in making the game work. Although I might be wrong, there could be a patch circulating somewhere. I think we even tried virtual computers.

What is XP ? Can you get that legally for free ?
I don't have it. And i don't intend to spend more than 100 dollars on something that only controls my hardware. (and takes a lot of resources for doing such a task.)

Therefore I'm glad to know if the game would work in DOSBox.
All I'm sayin' is that it DOES work on any Windows, just with the compatibility option turned on. To load a game on Dosbox - you just waste a perfect two minutes, with compatibility mode on - a second.

troop18546 M.A.X. Should run perfectly on WinXP by just right-clicking the shortcut and running the game with "Windows 95" compatibility.

Why even bring up Dosbox for this game? It functions great with the above mentioned.

Reup Do you get any error messages when you try to run the game? Does the game start but hang at a certain point or does it even refuse to start? Please give some more info about your problem.

It should work in DosBOX but there are issues

Playable for Windows but not for Mac (2005-12-13 07:46)* Monos_Lycos I am running an IBM R40E Thinkpad using Windows XP. The setup requires a little playing around but I was able to get it to run. However, scrolling across the map is a little choppy and so too is the sound. On my Macintosh G4 powerbook, I have tried time and again but cannot get the game to play. It constantly crashes on initial startup.[/quote]
