_r.u.s.s. wow i could have never think of this

it's probably because they used low integer variables for time/date so it gave negative numbers (for example in pascal "extended" has range from -4932 to +4932)

Shawnee FINALLY figured it out. Either you will all think I'm a real idiot or you will say "Hmmmm...who woulda thunk?"

I was having this save problem with all the RPG games I tried. Then last week I downloaded Aveyond 2 and when I tried to save I got an actual error message with a bunch of stuff I don't understand but ending with "time must be positive."

This led me to my computer's clock/calendar. Though my time and day/month were fine the year read 8002! I don't know why; I did have my computer worked on some time ago and perhaps it was changed at that time.

I fixed that and now all my RPG games save just fine, as they should.

This has opened up a new world for me. I would just start from the beginning every time, trying to get farther each time before I was killed. Now I can actually play the games through.

Thanks for all the help from everyone.

Juanca So, you mean that this is happening with all your rpg2000 games?
then i would believe it is because of your version of rpg maker 2000
i would recommend you to download a later version and the rtpe and some patches on this site
You can even thread your question there as they are experts on this kind of games only.
have you tried with 3 the hard way or breath of fire?
these games are great!

Shawnee To all who have responded: thanks.

I still can't get it to work. Yes I am at the crystal for final fallacy.

I tried removing read only options, and it reverts right back to read only. This is a problem for any of the ASCII games I have downloaded. It must be an error in rpg2000? I tried reloading.

I am just out of ideas. I have a bunch of games that use rpg2000 downloaded and I have just been playing until I get killed, but then have to start all over if I play again.

It's a shame, because I love these types of games.

Anyway, thanks for trying to help, all.

HOW DO YOU SAVE THE DARN GAME? I pick "save" (from a crystal, in the case of Final Fallacy) and it asks me if I want to save, I say yes, it asks me what file...then no matter what I do it doesn't save the game. Someone please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In final fallacy you can only save when you are in the world map or near a crystal. you should press space once or twice and thats it! are you doing this?

you should install or re-install the latest version of the game, maybe you have a version without the saving folder.

Pd: Final Fallacy is a very very funny game but it is only a demo, remember (it stops in a certain point. the Author stopped it like this!!) All is written in his web page, just google it)

Eagle of Fire I was about to mention the read-only problem.

Select all your folders for that game and remove the read-only tag. Then try again and tell us if it works.

Shawnee Welba, tried those, and it didn't work. I found what you pointed to easily, and noticed the "read only" setting, which I changed. I even played around with compatibilities. Hmmmm...what a bummer.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll welcome more if anyone has any ideas.

Shawnee Thank you! I will try that this evening!

The Fifth Horseman Right-click it in the Explorer and select "Properties".

Also, go to where the game's executable is and choose the Compatibility tab under "Properties". Set it to Windows 95.

Shawnee I am using XP.

Hmmm, how do I check the game directory for read only, and how is that fixed?

(Thanks for replying I'm freaking out! I downloaded the game to a flash drive and took it home to play...no 'net at home...and got really far and then couldn't save and I have to start over!)
