I'm getting quite sick of reading Unknown's auto welcome message. Can't he change it every week or so, so we aren't reading the same thing over and over and over and over again. Or just not have it at all, it doesn't really help too much.

And even if you do decide to keep it, I'm wondering why Wael doesn't get to do it since he started it.

If you don't like it, ignore it. It does come in quite handy. He is only trying to help.
Shouldn´t that have solved it?

+ It helps newbies
+ It is unoffensive
+ It provides information
+ [Re] It helps newbies
+ Inspires newbies to help the site
+ Ceaces future "useless one vain question" threads

- It is kinda annoying
- All the same

Let it be...

N17R0 That isn't too bad of a welcoming message. Heh, my moderators make it a game to see who can greet a new member first when they post in the New Members board, it's kinda crazy.

Unknown Hero That would be too dificult! I wont raise my post count, and have to go and lurk for new members!

Just kidding. Anyways, I wont do this. If someone else wants.....(just don't send 100 messages to new member because we didn't agreed who will send them)

WHY? Because I don't think it's more welcome, I think it's more encroachment to member's privacy!

Iron_Scarecrow Unknown Hero has a welcoming message when new people join, he just copies and pastes it when a new member joins. It goes like this:

There are a lot of ways to contribute site developing, these are some of them:
- you can review games that we send you - Check here!
- you can create your own screenshots of games that are already on site (and that need new screenshots) - Check here!
- you can help in translating abandonia to your mother tongue (if your mother tongue isn't English) - Check here!
- you can ask administrators about uploading some of your favourite games (of course with your review, too) - Check here!
- you can help people here on forum - no any special link, but just a friendly warn: Don't spam! (if you don't have to)

In the name of whole site I wish you plesant stay here at 'Abandonia - Home of abandonware games!' Enjoy! k:

Also, if you didn't already watched our "Posting And You..." movie you should better do!

But on N17RO idea about PMing new member to make them feel more welcome, it may be better to PM this message from now on. Just an idea.

Wired What message are you talking about anyway?
03-02-2005 10:18 PM
Iron_Scarecrow Well how about Unknown Pm's his welcome message to the new members?

N17R0 Even if it's a copy/pasted welcom messages, they are welcoming nonetheless to new members. A board that cares about newcomers is a close community. This also helps with bringing in more people. One of the things we do at my site is we actually have a board specifically for new members to introduce themselves at and where they can get to know some of the regular posters. It really helps in making people more at home. Also, even PMing new members welcoming them to the boards is a really generous way of saying that you're glad to have them join the community, thus reducing the chances they'll never come back.

But if someone wanted to help out they would ask how. If they have given no hint of wanting to help out then why tell them how they can.
Because there are greater chances of getting help by encouraging people to contribute, then letting them to figure out on their own how, when and to whom they should speak about helping abandonia! What's the cost of unknown's hint, it can do no harm!

Come on, guys, give unknown a break! I personally don't think that much newbies would contact the admins on their own, it's better with a welcome message! In my opinion, it pretty much comes in handy!

Unknown Hero Maybe we should create a poll! (or is it concluded?)
