Love it

Love this game. I had this back in the day, bought it in 1990. Played it a heckuva lot. Lot of fond memories.

After beating the game, I would typically just play the BOP Simulator. As a trek fan, I always imagined what it would be like to be aboard a starship for a battle. This is as close as you got back then. I eventually got pretty good at the BOP simulator, I could beat all BOP's with ease. So I would start off with a handicap, I'd let the BOP's hit me several times so that I started off damaged, and then see if I could still win the game.

I'm a bit rusty now, it took me 4 tries to beat all 3 BOP's this time. Ah well, it's still a lot of fun! I've never come across another good starship battle simulator for Star Trek. Anyone played any good ones? I've seen screenshots on a few Trek games, but haven't heard of any Trek games that had really good starship combat simulators. This version from 1989 is the best I have played.

This game is indeed nearly impossible to win.

I needed to slow DOSBox down to 500 cycles to navigate the wormhole, which makes the graphics WAY slow. I simply can't react fast enough otherwise, and I've yet to escape the minefield. This is a rogue-like game (You can't save the game) so I must replay everything before the minefield. (Who is that good?)

The Fifth Horseman This might be the very cause of the problems you described.
Try booting your machine from a MS-DOS boot disk and then running the game.

OK!!! NOW IT IS WORKING. Thanks for all your help!!!!
It was the dragging of the st5.exe to the dosbox exe that causes the error. When I did it the way you suggested it worked quite well and I get the sounds too!!!
Thanks a big bunch!
Boomer12k
I tried all that and now get a runtime error of R6003 and two error messages in low-res graphics mode, one which says "integer divide by 0" and one which says "can't open input bitmap file 'phasers.snd' (my computer in question does NOTNOT have Windows on it).

ST5: impossible to start!!! :(

Hi guys!
I am really happy I found this game.
Unlikely, I can't start it on my Mac: I downloaded the latest dosbox version.
When I start the game, it asks me the video card (ok) and then the level.
At this point, whatever I choose, this message appears:

"Please instert 5.25 Disk #3 or 3.5 Disk #3.
Hit any key to continue..."

and I can't go on...!!!!!
What can I do?
Thanks and the best regards

The Fifth Horseman johncharles1971: The same can be done using the [autoexec] section in the config file.

Dosraider: Well, the NTFS file system _does_ allow 255 character paths already... Where the path you wrote is "only" 162 chars long.

(that said, abbreviations rule - F:\Dosgames\shorted\STFinal\)
