Japo I don't know what options you do have, but if the second player could play with a stick or pad, and you're playing via DOSBox, you can map all pad buttons to keys. So the game believes that you have a pad but you don't need one.

Problems with two players

How can i play two players with keyboard? I would like to play in two players mode, both of them playing with the keyboard but the game doesn't give me that possibility. Is there any way , maybe with conf file to play as i have mentioned before?

Good idea for a computer game

This game could have been so much better really.
After a few hours trying to pass the second level it all seens like a waste of time. The ship has no shield or armor, there is no savegame options or even ´continue`
Tyrian 2000 is like 2000 times better.

Me too disagrees with the review. Ever wondered what the blue dots do? 100 of them give you a shield holding off one hit. Also, unlike on hard, on easy you keep your improvements after death.
I knew about the blue coin shielding. Fact is, it doesn't really help.
I never noticed my improvements staying with me after death on easy. Actually, I'm reasonably certain they don't

And now for my last post to defend my opinion, as this is actually quite useless:
Regarding my post above, and my review. They remain personal opinions. I just feel that this game has some issues that could have been thought over better, and that it fails in adding anything to the game genre besides a possibly unbalanced and unintentional difficulty.
I feel this game, or any other game for that matter, does not deserve high marks for such a thing.
Perhaps it's because I'm a member of the 'general public' and not an elite player, but this is how I feel it should be.

Anyway, I think there has been enough discussion about the review. For all I care you write your own review, give it five points, and somehow find a way to adequatly give arguments for such a rating. Then contact Kosta or any other admin to put it up. Then we won't have such discussions anymore, because most people who post for something other then giving tips or asking/giving technical help, post to say that it's such a great game. The fact if the game really is so brilliant is then often left somewhere in the grey. :tai:

To all TW fans out there: Sorry for being critical.<_<

Pfew, out of my system

axm Me too disagrees with the review. Ever wondered what the blue dots do? 100 of them give you a shield holding off one hit. Also, unlike on hard, on easy you keep your improvements after death. I don't remember normal now. I agree that it helps to know the levels, but that applies to all shooters that have not completely boring levels where remembering is hard.

Doubler, I also completely disagree with your post above, a save game function is not nessaraly required, tubworlds is anyway rather short. The multiplayer part is exactly the point, where it could be improved, although I haven't seen any promising approaches yet (Tyrian gave the possibility to combine 2 ships, but they were simply stronger divided). The only tactic - apart from who takes which upgrade - you have is "kill left, I kill right". And after a time both ships will fly with green or at least golden fire system, blue sucks.

Compared to Tyrian, tubworlds has a lot fewer functionalities, but I like the atmosphere, it is simply a self-contained, well rounded game. Thanks for the work with the review, but the game has not deserved a 3 - it is not industry standard, it is above standard.

Spoonman Yeah Tubular Worlds is one of those shooters I actually DO like. I think it's mostly because of the level design, it makes me curious of what comes next and ready to learn how to overcome it. Unfortunately I didn't have that experience with a game like Tyrian (Raptor and Zone66 were cool though).

Nice graphics, pretty good music and sound fx, smooth control. As for the difficulty I would prefer the term challenging, not nessecarily tedious. I do agree that two-player mode makes it less frustrating (and more fun) though, especially at later levels.

I have to disagree with the review, Tubular Worlds is one of the best scrolling shooters, because of the difficulty. You have to master each level to win the game, Tyrian you can finish with one eye closed, there is no tension.
An shooter isn't some kind of glorified game of memory where you get to do some action in between, it's usually most skill based, where unexpected events put you at a disadvantage, rather then defeat you right away. Most people won't like having to replay the same levels time and again because they have to learn each level by heart.
That is to say, I like this game as well, partially for it's difficulty, but to say it's an industry standard, or that it makes this game exceptionally good: No.

It's a fault some people may appreciate, but it will certainly not earn a game full score.

Anyway, I love the multiplayer too. It adds more strategy to the game (and strategy can be rare in these games), rather then luck. If you want to fully appreciate this game, play it multiplayer.

I second this!
In my opinion Tubular Worlds is one of the best sidescroller ever! (maybe the second best if you consider Katarkis or R-Type as competetor).

This all-over-again thing is one of the Arcade properties. Imagine standing at an Arcademachine with this game and seeing everyone loosing and then YOU come in and show 'em how to master it .. hehe ... that's cool!

Coop mode is great in this game, too! It's 5 points for me!

Guest Man I loved this demo, enjoyed it a lot more than Tyrean and Raptor to be honest. Yes it's real hard though. I agree that the trial error thing isn't that fun but it's like that with a lot of games of this type, even the classic 1942. Knowing what is coming is what made games like these fun for me back in the 80s.
