Works well here

I installed it with dosbox by first unzipping in some random directory (obviously don't need DOSbox for that). Then start DOSbox. Mount that random directory as D:. Mount my dosroot (where I keep all my DOSbox games) as C:. Install from D:. Accept default install directory on C:. Then copy crack to C:\UC and execute there. No need for all the SUBST stuff suggested on the Abandonia game page, though you can sure do it that way if you like or if you're using a real DOS machine and not DOSbox.

No problems, works great with DOSbox. (Can't speak to anything else.) I used the Sound Blaster Pro sound option. Not that the sound is really much to speak of. I suppose the "card played" sound is a little helpful but the computer voices ... meh. No real value added.

The games aren't bad at all, which is the whole point of this. I wanted this to play straight Whist, and it's more than good enough for me. Most straight Whist games nowadays (2013) seem to be for Android or expensive shareware for Windows. I wanted something on Linux and this fills the bill well enough at a very good price

T.Hi <span style="color:#6600CC"> Thanx! The game is now running perfectly for me! Two things, though -
(1) I got it to work without using a floppy to install it - maybe because I have a dinosaur Windows '98 computer? - I just used DosBox and it worked!
(2) Mama Joe, you get the questions because you forgot to copy your "Crack.exe" file into the folder where all your game files are - 'UC', maybe? I had the same problem until I saw
<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE</div><div class=\'quotemain\'>...there is a file named CRACK.EXE. That's the crack you need to be able to play the game, and this mean that you need to copy it to the newly created game directory and execute it there.[/b][/quote] in Eagle of Fire's post.

Again, thanx, all! </span>

Eagle of Fire Used DOSBox 0.63 for install and for playing, and it works like a charm.

Here is the step by step installation on my side:

Originally posted by Eagle of Fire guide on how to run this game

First, when I unzip the file I get a big directory which is not really ideal for DOSBox. I thus renamed it UcIns. That renamed directory sits in C:\Jeux. Second, I want to install the game to C:\Jeux\UC. Third, the game needs to be installed from a floppy (A:\). With those informations in mind, I launched DOSBox.

> mount c c:\
(Warning: by doing that you are mounting your entire C:\ drive. By doing so, it's no longer an "imaginary" drive, so be cautious of what you're doing there. I personally of course have no problems whatsoever with that.)
> mount a c:\jeux\UcIns
> a:
> install

At this point, the installation sequence will fire up. Answer all the questions, select the installation with sound and voice, select SoundBlaster Pro when prompted for the sound settings (the list continue to the bottom) and enter the directory path of where you want the game to be installed. Remember that _I_ want to install it to C:\Jeux\UC, but you might want to install it somewhere else at your convenance.

Once the installation is complete, you will prompted back to a:\. If you type "dir" as a command, you'll see that there is a file named CRACK.EXE. That's the crack you need to be able to play the game, and this mean that you need to copy it to the newly created game directory and execute it there.

> cd c:\jeux\uc
> copy a:\crack.exe
> crack.exe

From here, the game is completely installed and ready to be played. Since you are already in DOSBox, all you need to do is to type...

> UC.bat

... and voila! The game will run flawlessly in DOSBox 0.63, and the voice acting is working too! Enjoy the game.

T.Hi :angry:I'm having trouble getting this to INSTALL! I think I'm doing everything OK, but then, after I've chosen my sound info and which components to install, it says

<span style="color:#FF0000">'The disk in drive C: contains files for the product "Sound Blaster 16/32/AWE". Press the [ESC] key...'
When I do, it then says
'PRESS ANY KEY. Please place the Master Distribution Disk labeled "Disk #1" version: 1.01 in drive C: Press the [ESC] key to abort, any other key to continue...'
If I press any key, it repeats the first error message. If I hit [ESC], obviously, it quits the install program.

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN??? I picked the correct sound info from the list and even when I try to pick something else - like "Internal IBM Speaker Background" - it gives the same error message. WHAT GIVES?

Please help, someone. I'd really like to play this game! </span>
