Yes, I have it, its pretty good...for edutainment  ..Try it on a SNES emulater..if you can read japanese!

Now that you mention it I do remember a SimTown, it was more about making the local peeps happy by putting a Pizza place in or an arcade, if I am recalling correctly. |

I remember that maxis made a game called Sim Town, that dealt with that sorta style of game. Not really Sim city but a lot more, well close. |

 My 10 year old wants to try SimCity, which I have SimCity 2000 (diskettes), although it will not install for me under XP now. So I guess I'll let her try this instead!I'm sure she won't mind the difference! :whistle: |

It's important to appreciate the context when reviewing games for very young players. Unfortunately it seems the reveiwer of this game may have been a little harsh to give it such a low rating. Obviously it is ridiculous to compare a title aimed at the under 7 year old market with classics such as SimCity. If you look at it for what it is, a simple introductory game for very young children, then it certainly deserves a better rating, because it does what it should which is to provide enterainment and (gasp) educational content, and does it effectively enough and with reasonable graphics for its age. The good points of this game are: 1. it has decent graphics and "cutesy" characters. 2. kids will get a feeling of satisfaction from being able to create things and then play with them 3. teaches kids map reading and compass reading skills 4. Easy to use, a good introduction to games and computers for kids The bad points of the game are: 1. lacks variety 2. lacks options 3. only suits little kids On balance, I think it deserves at least a 3.0 - even if only because the positives outweigh the negatives. If you have a little kid at home and want them to learn simple computer skills and appreciate the fun of non-violent games this is a title worth downloading (and what the heck, it is not a huge download!). |

Interesting to see this game again. Back when I was a kid they had this on the computers at the library. At that time my family had never owned a computer so they were magical mystical devices. The other games I remember on those same computers were Oregon Trail and an early Carmen SanDiego. I remember one of the options in the main menu for this game was "Save town" or something. My dad and I thought this was supposed to let you save the town from disaster or bad guys or something, it actually was for saving it to disk, but we were completely baffled and even got one of the librarians to try and figure out how you were supposed to use that option! =) I think there's something about CGA/EGA graphics and the other limitations of ancient technology which just adds a lot more magic to old games. |
