I know this is serveral years late but i recenly got the same problem as you. I tried every suggestion but to no avail. After much thinking and a lot of googling I finally found a solution that worked.

1. Open task manager and kill the process "explorer.exe"
2. Start a new task in task manager and type in "cmd"
3. Navigate to the correct directory where _ONTRES.FON is located (using cd and dir commands).
4. Type "del _ONTRES.FON" and rejoice as the hideous beast vanish from your computer. If if still doesnt work try running the command prompt as an administrator.

I know this answer most likely is too late to help you now but im still typing it so that people in the future may see it.

The Fifth Horseman You're not doing anything wrong, it's just that Windows does not open its' file manager by default.
Go to Main -> File Manager.
I figure you could copy that link to StartUp or add shortcuts to the games to a new group in Program Manager - whichever works best for you, really.

xeyla Hello everyone, I need some help getting this game to run. I have the W3 installed into my Oldgames directory, and I have SimLife in the same folder. Here is a screenie of my folder:

When I run W3, I don't have a Oldgames folder showing:

What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for any help, I have been wanting to try this game ever since I saw it. Next will be Wolf, if I can get this game working.

The Fifth Horseman Okay, let's start with the basics :

When you have DOSBox set up on your machine, you should configure it to automatically mount a directory on startup. Then all you need is to grab this and unpack into that directory:

Sally Fox I am being told I have the wrong version of the game. I believe it has something to do with my copy of windows being 64bit, is there some way to run the installer as 32bit?
