My DosBox is the old 0.70. Maybe thats why GS2000 isn't happy. I'll try 0.74.

BTW I am indeed an advance spambot designed to use advanced AI to fool forums into thinking I'm human, and attempt to get them to remove ReCaptcha by just asking them.

Damn you for not falling for it!!!!

Now whose for some little blue tablets?

That's what a bot would say to us, if it could post

It is also screwing up the ability of spambots to FLOOD the forums with hundreds of ads for viagra, cheap loans, porn and shoes a day.
That's kind of the REASON we had to install it in the first place and there is no way in hell it's going away as long as spambots exist.

Let's see...

Downloaded the game from Abandonia, extracted the archive in my DOSBox C-drive, started the game and...

everything seems to be fine. I can access the briefing and start a mission.

I'm using DOSBox 0.74 with the default configuration.

Sorry to bump up an old thread - but it must be this particular game "install" that is corrupt. No amount of re-downloading will fix it. I've tried the version of GS2000 hosted on another site, "MyAbandonware.com", and that too crashes when trying to access the briefing screen. It appears something inherent in all copies of GS2000 on all sites hosting it!
I cannot see how "different control configurations" would make any difference at all.

So, if it's only just me - and the guy have trouble 2 years ago - that can't run it then can those you that can run it reveal the secret?

Review and download (if available)
I think I was in junior high when I first played this, shortly after upgrading from my Tandy 2000HX. I had the bright idea to start comparing the saved game files before and after completing a mission with different levels of success (and medals). Found I could use a hex editor to give myself medals after that. That was a whole new dimension to the 'game' that I remember most about Gunship 2000. The helicopter stuff was cool too.

Bollocks
Doesnt work!

It simply does not work!

It crashes on the mission briefing screens either with:

a) A "missing file" error or
b) corrupt graphics and music going all funny.

Some of those recon missions can be accomplished by going up, rotate, spot, land...mission accomplished. Just pray that an AA doesn't take you out though unless your trying to get a lot of purple hearts.

So I have been wanting to play this game again for a long time...I installed it once and my machine was way too fast (I didn't know about DosBOX). Now that most machines don't have floppy drives my disks are obsolete. Yes, I have my original floppies along with the book, strategy guide, and keyboard layout.

BTW, one of the things I loved about this game....the screen shots are from the movie Firebirds...

From what I remember from this gem:
YOU'RE IN THE ARMY NOW SON, DO AS YOU'RE TOLD.

If they tell you in the briefing: recon and avoid engagement, now f*cking do recon and avoid engagement by keeping a low profile, hide and be sneaky. Retreat, hide and wait long enough after any enemy contact.

Bring back the data, that's how to complete those missions.
