Reup The 'irate' reviewer was me. And I didn't get if from FTP, but without awaiting reply from Kosta, I downloaded it from HOTU (I think). Off course, that way it was entirely my fault I spent time reviewing a game, since I didn't use the proper channels. So your suggestion of structurizing the lot is a good one. If the response time goes down, the chances of something like this happening are slim to none.

mika One possibility is that he got it from some other Abandonware site.

I don't think we need to get to point of adding 10 games a day to the site anyway, 1 or 2 a day is plenty - it gives people something to look forward to and doesn't promote the site as a plain 'download' site.

I like the idea of a review management section which I actually proposed a while back (see here). It could work but we'd have to think about it quite a bit. I would love to program it but it might take me a little while as I'm still bogged down by work these days. Kosta, what you think - should we maybe start a discussion on this?

einherjar The game was Ancient Land of Ys. Apparently the person who complained to me used FTP to get it.

Kosta Well, your idea is swell, but how would we know that its not being misused. Someone signing up for a review as someone else, or just for fun without intending to actually review it. And as for the Games that need reviews topic, its updated every few days...

ReamusLQ just a thought, but I know we have a thread that says "Games needing review" and people have signed up to review them and stuff, and maybe I'm just not very observant, but it doesn't ever seem like that list is ever updated or anything like that. A possible solution? Maybe have a section (not on the forum) with all the games needing a review, and people could volunteer themselves to review it by entering their username into a little box next to the game title, and then the list would change saying "This person is doing this one" so that multiple people are not reviewing the same game. This also seems like it would be easier to update (in my oppinion.) Just a thought. Good? Bad? Should I prepare myself for the chopping block?

Kosta Well, I'm not trying to argue, I'm just open to suggestions. This is the best I could come up with. If we had people running this, perhaps it would be more organized, however I'm pretty certain I didn't hand out a same game to two people. And you still haven't told me which game and review you are talking about....

Yes, that would be me. Einherjar, which review of yours is waiting to be added for 3 weeks? I seem to have lost track of it... and which game did it take weeks to receive? I don't read PMs every day, but I do answer them every 2-3 days so I find it pretty impossible that I haven't answered for weeks as you put it. And also, adding a game takes time too, so I can't add 10 games per day because that would take an entire day. We try to do it every day, but since Wendy and myself are only updaters at the moment, its pretty dificult to keep everything running in tip-top shape. I admit that I don't have enough workforce, so if you would be willing to take up the task of organizing reviews, and moving completed ones to appropriate locations, I would be more than happy to assign this to you
My whole frustration came with the dependence of email to gain access to games to review. The most recent game I reviewed took the longest because of a problem you had with your email that prevented you from receiving my request. I waited a week before contacting you again. After this, I finished and submitted my review along with screenshots and a request for another game.

After I submitted the review, I was contacted by an irate reviewer who wanted me to "share notes" with him on the review (I work alone, of course) because he really wanted to review the game instead. I then suspected that people were getting games faster than I.

I'm not mad at anyone for this, and I don't care how soon my reviews are posted. I don't review for gratification, rewards, status, or recognition. Abandonia needed reviewers, and I wanted writing practice.

The only purpose for this thread was a request for a more efficient way of receiving games to review. As I said before, I understand that those who run the site are often really busy (which is why I never email for help). I, however, see that there is an advantage for people who don't need spend most of their time on the computer trying to figure out things. I barely know how to run Windows, let alone run an FTP server or whatever FTP does.

I'm not mad at anyone for any reason, and I didn't start this thread to argue.

No, Maikel. That's why I made this thread.

Edit: As far as troubleshooting goes, I don't like using the forum to troubleshoot games that I am having trouble with if they are games that are not on the site already. With FTP servers, Kosta asked me if I knew how to run an FTP program, and I told him I didn't. Since then, I've been using email for reviews.
I would like to know if this is a problem. Why not help with any games, why just try to help with games that are already on the site.
