The Fifth Horseman It can't hurt - actually it would be very handy - but the webteam responsible for Abandonia's main site seems too busy with their other assignments to do anything even with near-critical bugs.

aw yeah

have just downloaded .72 and things are actually workin properly now.
Still think the filter would be a good idea tho for some people. cant hurt, can it?

The Fifth Horseman 2.16 gHz should be more than enough. I'm using a 1,66 gHz processor and manage to run most games in DOSBox just fine (except for the worst CPU hogs, eg Quake).
Mind you, use v0.70 or higher of DOSBox: there was a major performance jump from v0.65 to v0.70.

in response:

to the chosen: 1: according to the antivirus and antispyware programs it's free of both at the moment tho obviously it gets new spyware pretty much every time i use the internet, but i clear it regularly, and i tend to clear internet files daily (some of them u dont want the missus stumbling on lol), so i dont think it's that. 2: it says 2.16 ghz, would that be strong enough (like i say, i know very little lol)

to fifth horseman: it could be that, i tend to keep antivirus running and have messengers and other stuff runnin in the background (very rarely switch em off tbh), didnt realise that would make a dif, so its prob sumfin to do with that

thanks to both for your help

and before anyone says anything, other than the fact its 512, xp and 4 years old i dont know much about the specs of my computer, im not a computer buff, so it'll all just be greek to me anyway!!
My PC is also 4 years old - and let me tell you, it was low-middle end when I bought it to begin with. There are a few things to remember about.

Are you sure you don't have unneccessary stuff running in background? A defrag utility, P2P client, anti-virus software, messengers...
These all take up your system resources. On weaker machines disabling them is a simple neccesity.

TheChosen Two possibilities:

1. Your computer is filled with junk like temporary files and viruses and it needs cleaning.
2. You just dont have strong enough computer. Dosbox needs a decent computer to work.

Right click on your "my computer" icon and choose properties. How many mhz/ghz you have?

i agree with the original poster

i dont know why but my computer hates dosbox, only a handful of games work, its stupidly slow and it has a tendency to crash unexpectedly but i know all games that are xp compatible work perfectly on it so it would be extremely handy for me at least to have an xp filter

Fubb DOS Box runs fine for me

I got 512mb RAM and 733mhx, Windows XP Service pack..er....2 i think, or 1..i forget.

It dfoes lag occasionally in some games, and somegams won't even work for me at all (like Fable, i can't even leave the first area, the game quits on me)

It lagged for me on settlers 2, but i got it working on normal C:\ and dont need DOSBox (though i can't save maps i make)

...

That is all...

_r.u.s.s. i know. and after that word "lag" got into slang it's naming any stuttering that way, it's like you said that geckos lag because they stay freezed and then all of a sudden start moving. or yo that yo' momma's so slow, her HP are equal to a rhinoceros. the way you're showing off your "skills?" couldn't get any more awkward, 17 years old wanna be

Blood-Pigggy Doesn't LAG YOU CORNHOLE. Learn the difference between a framerate drop, computer stuttering and LAG which is when your computer is not pinging with a server properly and therefore causes delayed action in a game.
