tomvdj Found out that it really is the version of the game! Found another iso and if I mount that one, the music is exactly as in the video's. So not a configuration issue, but purely another version of the game...

Smiling Spectre Discworld can use SoundBlaster, MT-32 and Sound Canvas. And it will give you much difference in music, especially if you have soundfonts.

eXoDOS v5 have it tuned for any of this settings. It's on the-eye now, but there are several hoops to install it right, starting from the space (all metadata eats 50Gb, and cannot be splitted by individual game).

If you want to try to tune it yourself: you need DOSBox ECE. Then MT32 roms for Roland, or soundcanvas.sf2 for soundfont.

tomvdj Apart from the music it self, I noticed that in the video the music started playing at the title screen. In the versions I tested, music only started at the animation.

I wonder if someone has a version where the music also starts at the title ("press any key") screen?

Also in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw8KCH4ZdaY the guy gets the music playing with just dosbox and soundblaster as device (see minute 14 in the video: same sound as in the other video). I read here: https://www.lspace.org/games/discworld/faq.html#part2.4 that there are different versions of the CD version out there. Maybe it's that V3 they are using? I have no clue...

zirkoni I don't think the game ever had any other option besides MIDI: http://redump.org/discs/quicksearch/discworld/

Maybe some soundfont?
There's also this music enhancement for ScummVM but it doesn't sound the same as in the video you linked.

Discworld: get the music right?

I got my hands on a genuine copy of the CD version of Discworld, and I get it running in dosbox (after applying the 1.04 patch, it works smoothly), but wat bothers me is that I don't get the music as nice as I hear in in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCllAqJtvKk

First: while in the video the music already starts on the "Discworld" title screan (where the "press any button" appears), this is not the case with my version. It only starts playing at the animation of the flying turtle. The music in the video also sounds as if it's a complete orchestra, while my music sounds as simple midi files on a simple midi output device.

Also tried the images on Abandonia, but without luck.

Does anybody of you gets the same music (quality) as heard in the video I posted? In the meanwhile I also installed VirtualMidiSynth to upgrade midi sound in dosbox, but without succes for Discworld.

Any help is welcome. I'd love to hear if someone here actually gets the same sound as in the video. And if so, what image he/she is using?
