I agree its probably best if it would be for another site, afterall if the requests and reviews have anything to say, we have plenty on our plate for the games that we do have here. If we started looking at other systems and games on here it could get crazy real fast. |

Tulac | I don't think that expanding to games from other systems is a good idea now, but it's certainly interesting for consideration in the future. | |

Well C64 is my greatest love, but still this site needs to stick to DOS games and PC games only. But i have another idea. We have reviews for games, few shots and perhaps some specials. What about adding a new small window that says "more game's info" (or something like that) that will lead us to a new page. I don't think this should be in specials because this should be much more viewable. What am i talking about? Well, generally there are many interesting stories about how some games were created. By now, someone who knew something interesting used to mention this in his review. Also we have only few info about game: year, publisher and so... We could have much more details and perhaps some history of the game, how it was accepted in certain countries, how was it created and released and so on. Also, as many PC games we host are just conversions we could explain what was original game on this page, what are other conversions, sequels, remakes..... You might ask why should we have this since this stuff can be found at other sites, like Mobygames. Well, many of the games we host also can be found on the other sites, why are we here really? This means that every true game fan can find many things realted to certain game right here, at Abandonia. Maybe even links to many other stuff. Not only that we would look professional, but i think that it would improve our popularity. Guys who don't care about this will just oversee it, but there are also many other who will appreciate this. It is more than obvious that this new pages can't be handled by a single man for a single game, but we'll have to work as a team. Perhaps eve a new team for checking stories that our members will send us. I guess i should start a whole new topic. Say your oppinion. |

Strobe, just as you said, your example is not the best. Porsh started to build Cheyene (or what they are called) which is something simillar we intend here. New product, but with the same dedicated engineering (games with the same great reviews ). Kosta's word is final, but just to let you guys know, Amiga had DOS too. LOL (Strangely called AmigaDOS ) |

Well, all good suggestions and ideas. I would tend to agree with the "keep this site specialized because we'd be better at one thing than average at all things". What's that phrase again ? "jack of all trades, master of none" ? However, I get that same feeling that Anibus has - expanding the site laterally just for the sake of expanding may not be such a good idea. (but who am I anyway). I have a tremendous respect for those who are involved with this site, I in no way intend to offend just humbly making suggestions and comments. Maybe not now, but in the future it may just be a good idea to consider adding other systems of the existing dos games we already have (and are allowed to host). Anthony |

ill just pipe up as usual if a game is available as an original arcade game, or on amiga..(if i know about it) people can go look for it themselves... no xoopx warranty expressed or implied! sometimes the game is better on p.c than amiga, but if its on arcade then thats almost (99%) always going to be better. (lemmings prototype arcade is definately part of that 1% that arent ) |

but if we chose to expand abandonia's content for other systems, we would have to set up a bigger crew of active ppl for this expansion - since i think all of us are aware of the fact, that such plans will require a lot more work... without having a guarantee from at least 8-10 members to put a huge amount of effort into offering games, reviews and such for new systems, this idea is not realizable! anyway, i think offering games for other systems is a matter of dedication in the first place. abandonia was founded for keeping DOS-games alive, which was kosta's intention. so we should check out his opinion about whether supporting other systems would meet his consideration... just to put up an example: i suppose, you know the german car manufacturing company "porsche" or "ferrari". their basic intention is to produce fast sports cars. what if they decide to manufacture vans? of course, this would be a welcome change for a certain range of customers. but doesn't this alter the special image such companies deliver since they have been founded? i know, some of you might think this is a bad example. but think twice. in some cases it's better to be limited and focused on certain aspects, rather than to serve the masses for the sake of more "customers"... know what i mean? |

As I said I'm all for the idea, but since this is the HOME OF ABANDONED DOS GAMES - I guess that if we consider games from other systems, then only those we already have for DOS (in order to compare the games). This would put the games in certain perspective and would show the development of DOS games. If you compare DOS, C64 and Amiga's Defender of the Crown you'll see that PC was far behind. If you do the same with the game Weird Dreams you'll see the DOS game has surpased the C64 version (not so sure about Amiga anymore). But later on you'd see just when DOS became better then Amiga. But I'm not for this site hosting games that aren't made for DOS. For that we'd need another site - Abandonia Emulation (catchy name) is a good suggestion, but I doubt it will happen any time soon (but then again - we're all fairly young still). |
