dosraider When I read all this, I would suggest to Mr. G to clean up his PC.
A great deal of dosbox's / VDMS performance depends on how 'clean' your system is.
Begin with killin'all that runs on the background and isn't neccesary.
Fancy desktop enhancements, visual effects, innet conn, MSN ...... whatevers and whatnots.
Run a scandisk, reg cleaner, a-spyware, a-malware .... once in a while.

A good defrag can also help improve dosbox / VDMS achievable speed on a PC.
Not the MS defrag but try this one:
http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/index.php
Freeware and darned good.

Whilst running the game hit CTRL+ALT+DEL ONCE, look in task manager at your CPU load, don't go over 90-95%, that's useless, it will even slow your system down.
(minimalize task manager, it stays working in your tray -or it should-.)

Not even for DOSbox?
Don't work at all with the sound if I run it under XP.

(sorry for bumping again)[/b]
My argument was: My machine is slower than yours and S2G runs fine.
So GHz can't be an issue.

The problem is that it runnes S2 in 256 colors, the game runnes slow, and is lagging (probly to low cpu speed (1,6ghz)). And it craches 50 % of the time and when I try to load the game.[/b]
The GHz can't be an issue since I play S2G on a 1,0 GHz machine and it runs fine.
Starting it under XP could be an alternative sometimes. But you have to change some stuff in the excuteable. You can find the manual to that in the Compability section.

There is a button somewhere to reduce the zoom level, and there is also a button (I beleive) or an option to play the game in plain VGA... I don't really remember where it is tough.

The Fifth Horseman No way to speed up VDMS.
Sorry, but that about exhausts the available options.

Tried compatibility modes or VDMSound?
Tried both.
VMD works, but the music goes in slow motion.
Is there any way to speed up it a bit?
