zirkoni I wanted to play through all the single player quick setup scenarios. I decided to record my gameplay and upload the videos to Youtube:

I'm also testing different soundfonts with the game.

The Fifth Horseman Try a name no longer than 8 characters, no spaces. I'm not sure about this game, but some are using the player-given names as the filename to save under.

I can't get Dark Legions to save

I run DL with dosbox .74 by mounting c to..user/oldgames directory in vista. When I save a game it lets me type in a name for the save, but as soon as I try to load the save it says "Must be a valid save!" Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help.

These are the defaults, I think.
Movement: Q,W,E,A,D,Z,X,C
Attack: Left/Right Arrow key

You can press F1 during gameplay to bring up a menu. Press the first button left on the lower row to change the game options (inluding keyboard controls).

Monkeyfapper DLegions was a fantastic and underrated game. I owned it years ago and literally played it until the manual fell apart. Hell, even the copy protection system was moderately interesting.

This was IMO the evolutionary predecessor to games such as Defense of the Ancients, Leauge of Legends, Hero's of Newerth, ie MOBA games. Frankly the graphics and sound have aged very nicely and the atmosphere is still fantastic. I would have kicked a 12 year old off his 10 speed bike for a sequel.

The author is right, if there were an online version of this game with some automatic matchmaking it would be VERY popular. Great game, too bad it had to compete for a niche with titles like C&C and WC.

Also, how are you supposed to control the characters during tactical combat with the keyboard? Manual doesn't say.

Dark Legions problem. DOSbox .74

Heya, got the game up and running although there are some small issues with the sound. My main question is how on earth do I control the units during tactical combat? Point and click on the main map works fine, but once it zooms into tactical view I have no clue what to do. I understand that some of the keys function as commands, but I have no idea which. I tried WASD with no avail, and it looks like the movement commands and attack commands are literally bound to random keys.

Is there a file that I can change to rebind the keys? Does this game function with a USB joystick?

Loved the game when I was younger, and I am an avid MOBA player (LoL HoN DotA). Its great to see what IMO was the earliest evolution of true MOBA style gameplay.

First Class Article on a Classic Game

What a fantastic and well-written article on such a classic game. Dark Legions was a sleeper hit (at least, it was with me), and possibly the genre's best kept secret. It's a shame it didn't see more market penetration back in the day. In my opinion, this is the ultimate paper-rock-scissors type strategy game.
