Thanks!

I'll have to try that - how did you figure that one out?

Good work!

WilliamC23 Detonate a bomb at the stone disk near Bob's Mansion. That is how you seal the Nygol. Tons of dirt will cave in on it.

Slobs With a whole bunch of dumb-luck experimenting I found how to basically fully edit your DOB character, including all their stats and all items they're carrying. Anyway, here's the guide.

------

You will need a hex editor for the majority of these changes.

Changing Face

Hex Address 0 contains your current face. Normal values range from
01 (Character Face 1) to 0B (Character Face 11). Any other values
will cause a crash or use other game art assets such as NPC portraits
and item art, some of which will have a glitched color pallette.

Some examples:

Value - Graphic - Notes
0C through 16 - Glitched Pallette Avatars - Can be disturbing looking
17 - World Map - Worth using for easy map access
18 - Body Damage Chart - Non-functional
1A - Dead Body
1B through 1E - Weather FX
20 through 29 - Object Graphics
2A, 2B - Endgame Related Graphics

Editing Stats

Stats come in Hex Pairs - the first hex is 0 through to 256, so
64 = 100, FF = 255.

The second hex is multiples of 256; so 02 = 512, 03 = 768 and so on.

Values appear capped at 20,000 so the maximum of any stat is 204E.

Keep in mind that any value over FF can cause problems. For example,
20,000 strength will cause you to be unable to carry any items as you
will weigh more than your maximum carriage allowance (However, you will
kill enemies with a single punch).

Stat - Hex Starting
Strength - 2
Stamina - 4
Dexterity - 6
Life - 8
Mental - A
Appearance - C
Shooting - E
Punching - 10
Kicking - 12
Throwing - 14
Pick Locks - 16
Debate - 18
Fast Talk - 1A
First Aid - 1C
Psychology - 1E
Chemistry - 20
Spot Hidden - 22
Oratory - 24
Ti-Chi - 26
Ninjutsu - 28
Listen - 2A

Changing Name

Addresses 2C to 40 contain your character's name.

Items

Items have two references.

If you set both item reference to 00 it will not appear in your inventory.

Items come in Hex Pairs - the first hex is 0 through to 256, so
64 = 100, FF = 255.

The second hex is multiples of 256; so 02 = 512, 03 = 768 and so on.

Values are capped at 20,000 so the maximum of any item is 204E.

Item references start at 12f (Diary of Dice) and end at 26F (44 Cal Shell) - Open IDEMS.DAT in the DOB folder to get a full list and simply offset to find the correct item.

Item - Hex Starting At
Diary of Dice - 12F
... - ...
44 Cal Shell - 26F

Two Things

Hello,

I'll have to take another stab at this game sometime soon again.

I have, however, done two things:

1. I emailed the game's author - he sent a quick reply saying that he didn't remember how to fully beat the game :-P So that avenue is closed. No hints even!

2. I found that, if after asking someone a question, and they refuse to answer, you then click where the questions WOULD be, you ask the question and they answer! That's gotten me far with a few people (esp gvt agents).

Back at this when time allows!

Slobs Figure I'd keep this thread going, even though activity's low (as always) since I found something new out:

If you open IDEMS.DAT in a Hex or Text editor, you can take the six-character code of an item and paste it over that of an item you have in your inventory already to turn all instances of that item into another.

For example, if you have a large ax (xFFPNH) and you paste over xFFPNH with the the code for Coin (GFFFFM) you'll now have a Coin where the Large Ax was in your inventory, but it will still be called Large Ax unless you overwrite the name too.

This doesn't work for all items; some share the same code, for example. It's possible the name of the item determines some of its' functionality, too.

Incidently there's a few items I've never found ingame if somebody can help me with those; some are plain and others esoteric:

corodean gas maker - doesn't seem to do anything
piece of wreckage - reads "sea voyage" (on the paper DOB map there's a shipwreck site that doesn't seem to exist ingame, but rarely you'll find a bleeding woman there)
coin - reads "five cents" or something of that sort
scorched grass - doesn't seem to do anything
snow plant - tastes bad, makes you sick?
7mm and 44 mag shells - don't seem to exist anywhere ingame

Slobs After giving up the artifact to the aliens, don't you get dropped off right next to the hill? Maybe that's of some kind of significance.

Not the p vortex inductor.Use the scalar altogenerator for that.

Dunno what the p vortex inductor is for but i think it has something to do with "round hill"(in reality p vortices are supposed to sometimes be created in those environments i think)

Beating the Game

The only thing I can think of is the "odd tree on the island" (near Dice's House) which may be some sort of monster. Maybe something has to be done with that?

Clarification

Let me clarify - the inscriptions in the various caves / stone tower.

Thanks!
