Re: "nascar-h" for hi-res SVGA

"How do you get the high-resolution graphics mode on Windows XP? The ReadMe says something like: "For the high-res SVGA graphics, run it in high-res mode, as in 'nascar-h'. Not surprisingly, I have no idea what that means. Thanks."

You'd have to use either a batch file that commands it to run nascar.exe -h , or possibly you could input nascar.exe -h in DOSBox to make it kick into SVGA mode.

Papyrus did that a lot - there are specific "appendix codes" after indy.exe to get VGA and Adlib on Indy 500: The Simulation, for ex.

I did not know about the two versions because I played this nonstop when it was brand new 20 years ago, but as I understand it Sierra milked it for all it was worth for years, and maybe it was less buggy/troublesome than NASCAR 2 (1996).

Phreeze_lu i believe the High-Res is only available on the CDrom version ?
it's indeed started with the nascar -h command in dos / dosbox.

I got the trackpack too, but only on original disks, so without highres textures

edit: apparently the trackpack i found on the net says both versions have hres textures...i'm 100% sure my trackpack didn't have..

but anyway: there are 2 versions out there: one with original sponsors and Jeff Gordon on the main menu (i think its the nascar racing where "racing" is written in a yellow fancy font) and the one i got only has fictive cars, no real sponsors etc. (the racing is written in a white proper font)

got the trackpack disks but can't really install the tracks from the install.com -.-

Peyroteo I thought it was a very boring game...

DaveDigsRR I bought this about 5 years ago and it ran good on my Windows '98 computer. Once I found out about dosbox, I got it to run with my "current" 2007 Vista setup. Never could figure out how to make the commentary run during the races. I hear Jarret at the beginning, but then he seems to leave. Perhaps an extended bathroom break?

Office_Monk Well, I don't have a dual xeon whatever, I have a AMD Athlon XP 2700+ and it runs smoothly with sound (14,000 cycles)

Icewolf Yes, the crashes are great. Too bad I lost the game some years ago.

When I wanted to play seriously (not crashing ) I always was annoyed by the pace car cause the computer players were too stupid to stay clean. <_<

DJMadMax Try this out!

Run on Talladega, start the game, just turn 180 degrees immediately, push the pedal to the metal just crash full speed into the oncoming crowd of opponent drivers This is the greatest wreckage i have ever seen in racing games.

Sometimes there occurs a funny error in game and the opponents car you have hit directly, flys around the track with amazing speed (far above the speed you can drive normally in the game) and the best of all, you can record and save all this with the demo editor.

Icewolf You may not download it cause it's protected. Read here why

Search the common internet markets (ebay, amazon, a.s.o.) for acquiring it legally.
