Freeware games: Tileworld (freeware version of Chip's Challenge) and Glider Pro.
featuring better graphics, compatiblity with Linux, and the abiltity to store high scores:
There are also several level editors that create levels that work both with Chip's Challenge and Tileworld.

    Tileworld can be downloaded at:
    http://www.muppetlabs.com/~breadbox/software/tworld/

The original editor can be found at:
    http://www.stage62.com/chipedit/chipedit.htm

The more advanced set of editing tools can be found at:
    http://cctools.translucentdragon.com/

The Yahoo group where you can find several files and links is:

A separate yahoo news group is:

Note: Chip's Challenge itself is still copyrighted and experts of the site are looking into this

    I quote:
"No. Chip's Challenge is copyrighted software and cannot be legally copied or downloaded. (And so-called "abandonware" is just a myth; current U.S. law gives copyrighted works protection for at least 70 years.)"

"A much better option is to get Tile World, a free (and legal) clone of the game."

True EPYX unfortunately went banktrupt but another company has taken over. I now refer to it in the quote below:

"There is in fact a Chip's Challenge II. It was written by Chuck Sommerville, the same person who created the original Chip's Challenge when he worked for Epyx. The game is finished, and Chuck desperately wants to release it; unfortunately, he does not own any rights to the game. When Epyx went bankrupt in 1991, it was sold to Bridgestone Multimedia (now Alpha Omega Publications, http://www.aop.com/) along with the rights to all Epyx games, including Chip's Challenge. Bridgestone is refusing to publish Chip's Challenge II or allow it to be published by anyone else unless Chuck puts up some of his own money. That has been the situation for a few years, and this is not likely to change.

"However, there is some good news. Chuck is currently working on another game, called Puzzle Studio. Since it avoids use of the Chip's Challenge trademark and code, the legal issues that plague Chip's Challenge II will not be a problem. Not very much information is currently available about this game, other than that it will be a long time in development. To sign up for Chuck's mailing list about his games, send an e-mail message to <chips2info@ledeffects.com>.

Also, you may want to check out Tile World, a free clone of the original Chip's Challenge written by Brian Raiter , and Chip's Challenge Level Pack 2, the sequel to the original level pack created by Chip's Challenge fans...

    GLIDER PRO.

Freeware game Glider Pro. is an advanced paper plane game also featuring a level editor. Created by John Calhoun and released by Cassady and Green in...

Unfortunately Cassady and Green went bankrupt but on the (bright side that means the game is freeware).

Is downloadable with information at: http://homepage.mac.com/calhoun/glider.html

In the game you fly a paper plane through a house dodging or sometimes shooting down certain enemies (fish, paper plane,) Avoiding or turning off toasters, and shredders. The objective is to collect all the stars using prizes such as foil (amour), rubber band (shooting), paper (lives), Batteries (speeding) and helium for floating. You also dodge candle flames, cupboards etc. as well as using the various transports air currents and switches to your best advantage.

The editor allows you to use powerful programs like res. edit, Moving van and Room grids to do things from changing the appearance of individual rooms and objects to changing the paper glider into a high tech star fighter for houses you create.

Unfortunately the game is only compatible with Mac and several people (including myself) have requested a new and more advanced version.

HOWEVER the older (and not as advanced) glider 4.0 still runs on windows.

This can also be downloaded from the site above. Thanks to people like Samuel Bradshaw and Alex Diener programs, and house archives for both glider pro. and glider 4.0 can be found on the net.

    Their sites are mentioned below:

http://www.sacredsoftware.net/index.xhtml (you may require Safari or Firefox to access it).

    (Firefox can be downloaded at:
    http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/central.html)
The site currently hosts the largest Glider Pro. house archive on the web.

    Samuel Bradshaw’s site is:

It Features cool graphics, plenty of ideas and programs.
