You can click on ANY picture to enlarge!
Pictures are from different beta versions so differences in interface and textures many be observed.
Some shots are pure eye candy shots where the interface is deliberately hidden so do not fear that there is none.
I've had to split my posts due to a images per post limit on this forum which unfortunately doesn't differentiate between big pictures and tiny heavily compressed pictures.

Hi guys..
That’s right the release of Heroes of Might & Magic 5 is getting closer & closer, and the Demo has just been released to the public!
http://users.esc.net.au/~blake00/Heroes5/Post/CoolThumb01.jpg (http://users.esc.net.au/~blake00/Heroes5/Post/Cool01.jpg).http://users.esc.net.au/~blake00/Heroes5/Post/CoolThumb02.jpg (http://users.esc.net.au/~blake00/Heroes5/Post/Cool02.jpg).http://users.esc.net.au/~blake00/Heroes5/Post/CoolThumb03.jpg (http://users.esc.net.au/~blake00/Heroes5/Post/Cool03.jpg).http://users.esc.net.au/~blake00/Heroes5/Post/CoolThumb04.jpg (http://users.esc.net.au/~blake00/Heroes5/Post/Cool04.jpg)
I’ve have been a Heroes fan since 1996 when as a teenager I accidentally stumbled across a demo of Heroes 1 on PC Gamer CD and instantly fell in love with it! The idea ruling over beautiful castles (While developing them up), launching heroes out (that could level up & collect artifacts RPG style), control large armies (of beautiful fantasy creatures from all your favorite books & movies), and explore a large world (of dwellings, monsters, and other rival castles) just blew me away & everyone else I showed it to.
Since then I’ve collected every game plus its add-ons in the series. I enjoy playing many genres of games, First Person, RPGs, RT Strategy, & TB Strategy and have many favorites over the years but Heroes takes the crown. Never has a series of games caused so many sleepless nights with the old ‘just one more turn..’ mentality LOL!
For those of you who don’t know the unfortunate tail I’ll say it really briefly here. In 2001/2 when the rushed out Heroes 4 & its addons were released 3DO fell bankrupt taking Heroes creators New World Computing with them and it looked like all was over for the Heroes series. But then European company UbiSoft bought the Heroes name and in 2003 a Nival project leader made an unofficial announcement in a popular Heroes fan forum that work had begun on Heroes 5.
Since then Ubisoft/Nival have been pumping out all sorts of juicy hints & FAQs, and then finally pictures and game play video’s over the last year so I thought I’d drop by some of the forums that I browse to show how good the game is looking now!
The game’s 3D engine is looking gorgeous and creates some amazing game environments for your heroes to walk, collect treasure, & fight in:
In the Haven Faction grasslands
The Human heroes ride on armored horseback while trees & flowers & crops sway in the wind, and sun light pours through the trees. In the castle screen the castle glows with holy light surrounded by reflective rippling water.

In the Inferno Faction volcanoes
The Demon heroes run through massive deep lava pits & flowing lava rivers, while steam & fire spews out through giant cracks. In the castle screen the fortress burns and flaming lava chunks fall from the sky leaving smoke trails in the air!

In the Undead Faction swamps
The Necromancer heroes ride their undead horse surrounded in the darkness of a foggy night while green gasses flow & seep out of deep pits. In the castle screen the black towers have an eerie green glow (LOTR Mordor dead city style).

In the Sylvan Faction forests
The Elven heroes ride unicorns through giant trees towering up into the sky, while rivers & waterfalls flow around them. The castles are built in & out of giant trees that drop their leaves gently down into a beautiful reflective lake.

In the Dungeon Faction underworld
The Dark Elven heroes ride giant lizards in a hidden world that exists under the regular map surface containing many tunnels with castles & dwellings & underground rivers lit up in various beautiful colors by the surrounding monsters, crystals & treasure in the caves.

In the Academy Faction deserts
The Wizard heroes ride war elephants through giant canyons stretching between rolling sandy hills while their castles magically float in the sky above resting in the clouds and glowing sunlight.

Combat Screen
The new Battle screen is fast and action paced on a square grid (not hex anymore), spells are cast in beautiful detail, and Heroes 3 fans will be pleased to know that Ballistas/Aid tents/Ammo carts/Catapults are all back (were gone in Heroes 4).

At E3 2005 we were blown away with an amazing FMV showing a demon attack on a human castle showing Devils, Archangels, Ghost Dragons, and a powerful human hero. Here are some snapshots I’ve taken from the video:

Uhm yeah, I tested the Beta a while ago and it was utter crap, I really expected more.
The graphics engine is really sloppy and in no way adjustable yet.
The sound was so much of a pain in my ears I had to disable it.
The multiplayer function, which is so far the only function in the game, is so bad coded, that it takes hours to find someone to play with and to find someone who doesn't actually disconnect after some time (due to the engine).
The AI is disabled, so you can't just make a quick testplay to test the game, no, you have to wait hours for someone to play with. And then you have to wait hours for him to make his turn.
Overall, this is one of the crappiest demos I've ever played. Don't get me wrong here, I love HoMM and I can't wait for the final release, but this is really just crap.
And just for the note, since the HoMM fan-community was equally turned off by the demo and boycotted the release, Ubisoft delayed the release, so I don't think it's as "here" as you think.

Just read my first post here. I have really big expectations for the final version, but the Beta/Demo is just one big disappointment.
Edit:
And again, I only mean the Beta, not the Demo, didn't know there was a difference, really sorry about that.

LOL very funny..
I know it probably appears that way mate but Heroes is just something I've been passionate about for 10 years now and I know that there are fans everywhere that may not know about H5’s existence or its progress... Much to my girlfriends annoyance I decided to devote my entire Easter weekend to showing off the game to all the places I visit LOL!!!!!
My download of the Demo has just finally finished but it only gets to the title screen (very cool battle between a devil & Inquisitor) on my ancient computer, it keeps crashing every time I try to load a mission grrr... gonna have to wait until I get my upgrade before I can really check it out I guess.. :(

Where did I recently ready about publishers paying people to have even hundrends of different accounts in forums to push games? The thing is that according to that, the plan is to first win the trust of the other forum members before try to push the game. hmm.
I never liked the HOMM series for some reason. I liked a bit the second one, but not enough to play it much or care about the sequels.
I do prefer Age of Wonders.

I been extremely disapointed in HOMM4. I don't think the fifth game can help much here, my main grudge was on the new 3D graphics and how the battles were fought. As well as the game turning more arcade than strategy... C'mon, when you have a hero which can beat a whole army all by himself...

Well yeah, HoMM4 was a HUGE letdown. And that's why the fanbase boycotted the early release of the game. They don't want the errors of HoMM4 repeated. If HoMM5 is gonna be a disappointment similar to HoMM4 then the series will surely die for sure. This is the last chance for the HoMM-Series and I really hope for the best.

Haven't played it for long yet, but my first impression was that it plays much more like HoMM3 (you know, the good one) than IV - it's like IV never happened. I actually spent a while trying to add a second hero to my army before I remembered that. The graphics are very sexy even on my 9250, and should look pretty amazing on my new PC when that arrives, although it's a it of a system hog (not like Oblivion or anything, but the rec. spec for GPU is an x800 or above). The mission I played looked rather tougher than HoMM3 (which was a bit too easy), and the voice acting wasn't TOO awful (better than, say, Dawn of War's :P).

About the DEMO:
I played Homm3 for at least weeks in total (when you set all the hours play behiNd eachother ) and i had to say i was pretty good in the game..
But now ill play the DEMO in Normal mode what should be easy and useful for the newbies but i has been beaten 3 times in row...i just miss some days to prepare myself for the devils attack ne or my castle...
It's really frustrating game so far...what a high challenge and that for a DEMo...
Im the only one struggling with the demo or does more people has a hard time with it and any advice how to play the first 9 days of the demo??
Ps. i dont give opion yet about the game, ill need more hours playing with it before i can tell the final review :max:

I'm finding that mission difficult too - there's just slightly too much stuff thrown at you methinks.
The map in the Custom Game section is rather dull - you basically just have to build up until you can walk over the enemy with nothing else much to do. Yawn.

Ahh the conspiracy theorist of the forum..
If they were paying me do you really think they'd want me advertising their game on a emulation site or here at an abandon-warez site that offers Heroes 1 for download LOL!
The only reason that download is still there without complaint is because Ubiosft (who I believe have the rights for selling Heroes 1-4 now that 3DO is dead) probably don't know about it (and hopefully it will stay that way should the day ever come that my old H1 cd stops working).
I'm doing this for me.. not them.. If the game does well money wise then they'll make another one and I'll have another one to play.. but if you don’t like any of the heroes games including the Heroes 5 demo then for god sake don’t waste your money on buying Heroes 5 LOL!!!

Exactly, cause that's where the most gamers really are, if they want it, or not.
And you don't seem to have any clue about this site either. We have Heroes 1 for download cause it's abandoned, not because this is a "abandon-warez" site.

@Warcraft look:
I got exactly the same idea, it already starts with the light UNDER your hero, that is almost an exact copy of warcraft...and the same "fake" magna looks were also the same in Warcraft...
Not a real bugger to me but they could be a little more origional with the light under the hero....
@ Custom map:
Nope, but can you send it to me by mail please?? (see my profile for mail adres) because i still got HOMM3 somewhere on my PC togehter with armageddons blade...hpefully it's design for 1 of those..because i miss the last upgrade (shadow of death??)
Thanks in advance and hopefully the real system needs will be lowered in final version of HOMM5 because they are pretty heavy now for such a basic looking game....

Actually I've been visiting & downloading here for years hence why I posted the thread here.
Heroes 1-4 are not abandoned, they simply belong to someone else now, & I believe I've seen talk on Celestial Heavens that Ubisoft are selling copies of Heroes 1-4 with some of their Heroes 5 packages.
Heh this most certainly IS an "abandon-warez" site (& I'll point out that I personally have no problem with this BTW).
From the Abandonia FAQ:
Q: What is Abandonware? Is it legal?
A: Wikipedia: "Abandonware is computer software which is no longer being sold or supported by its copyright holder. Alternately, the term is also used for software which is still available, but on which further support and development has been deliberately discontinued." Since the software is no longer sold or supported, the copyright holders are not directly harmed in any way. This is why abandonware sites are, for the most part, ignored by the law. The distribution of copyrighted software however is, and will allways be, illegal!

Yeah I've pre-ordered the super collectors edition. It reminds me of some of te DVD boxsets I've baught LOL. Cost me a lot though.. :(
I'm not much help to you with the other options though... its all very confusing. There is a thread a mile long in the official Heroes 5 forums full of fan complaints about all the diffferent versions they're selling and the poor PR relating to them LOL.

Sorry, I know this topic's a tad on the old side...
Played the Demo version just this weeked. LOVE IT. That coming from a man who never saw IV, could not stand I, wasn't a big fan of II and couldn't get used to the changes in III.
The game is awesomely well-balanced, the battles far more dynamic and challenging then those I saw in the previous parts of the series (they also require far more strategic thinking), the way heroes function is very well thought out, too.
I love the challenge the difficulty level presents, the graphics are good (IMO, they are a very good re-making of HOM&MII/III graphics style into 3-D).
Also, there was a bit of surprise in for me... you see, once you have a closer look at the whole thing, there is a number of things that feel heavily inspired by Warhammer Fantasy Battles - not that it's bad, quite good actually - and so everyone who likes the Warhammer world will quickly find themselves in Heroes V as well.
PS. Dang, now I have an urge to dust out my Heroes II and III CD's...

I'm not going to waffle on through all the features and be accused of promoting the game again so all I'll say is.. Heroes 5 on a 19" LCD at 1280x1024 with all the graphic settings to the max.. OH BABY!

Well, I played the game, it's cool, by that I mean the graphics, but it doesn't have that thing that heroes 1,2,3 had, especially the heroes 1, that something that made you build those cities from nothing to most powerful kingdoms(city in 5 is disappointing), then conquer the land and proclaim your supremacy.
But the worst thing is that the hero in the HOMM5 looks like god damn TANK, I want little horsy with a flag.

The game is a piece of art... beautiful 3D landscapes and the aspect of an town... magnificent. The gameplay, well it's fine but still I preffer Heroes 3, you don't have a Wait button for your units (you must press w for that action) and some other minor incoveniences, anyway this game is an succes although dissapointed me... that's my oppinion :tomato:

Hmm... ever saw the Succubus heroine in the demo? No? See her. Convince me SHE looks like a tank.

It was supposed to be half-joke and half-nostalgic statement, obviously misunderstood, but no matter.
My reference was to a difference from something like this:

And also don't take me the wrong way about HoMM5, I’m currently playing it (well they are minimized now :) ), and enjoying them quite a bit.

Oh, is the new developer from Japan? I don't like the series, but, I prefer the old type of leader.

Bought it 2 days ago and can't stop playing!!
Nice graphics great music but SAME SAME and INCREDIBLY SAME gameplay---> i am not complaining, some new features would have been fun.
the intro movie, the cutscenes, choosing campaigns, the king are all Warcraft rip offs. And i also was ripped off for the 50$ game i bought that is none other than Homm4 with nicer graphics and some warcraft rip offs.
But you know how it is, Can't stop playing.

Actually, from what I could see, each city has its own heroes with very distinct appearances. Haven, for instance, has got its Knights, who look very similar to the old style Hero designs.
I saw only the demo, but there seems to be at least two hero designs per each type of city... maybe more, seeing as how the demo has three hero designs for Inferno.

No, the new developer is Nival. If I remember correctly, it´s a russion developer. They made Battle Mages, Silent Storm, Rage of Mages and Etherlords.
When I saw the first screenshots of HOMM 5, I thought: "Hey! Cool, Nival is making Etherlords III!" The design is very similar. (Wll, if I look at some screens, I must say, that it is exactly the same design.)

I've encountered for now 3 different heros models for each faction. There is the campaign main caracter and male/female caracters you could hire.
