I can't run Abuse in XP!
And then i tried the DOSBox, but it stands something about protected run time mode blah blah blah....
Someone here who can help?

Thanks in advance.

That is strange.

I just took some new screenshots from that game yesterday. (In DOSBox)

All I did was extract the files to my harddrive (It HAS to be C:\), then you just run the game with Abuse.exe. If you run it in DOSBox you will have to increase the cycles to around 9000 - 10000 (Press CTRL+F12).

Hope anything of this helps.

Sounds like you could be running 0.61 or older... Try getting dosbox 0.62 or cvs instead. I remember running Abuse in dosbox a good while ago.

I actually use three versions of DOSBox :bleh:

But yeah. I took the screens in 0.61.

I didn't work....

What does frameskip means? For example, what's the difference between 1000 and 9000?

Frame skip is literally what it says. It skips drawing certain frames (more as the rating becommes higher). This saves time so the game runnes faster but it is noticeble as well so the game becommes choppy.

VDMSound won't work with Windows 98. It only works for NT compatible (Like XP or 2k) Windows.

If you are running Win98 there is some very good chances that your computer is not fast enough to actually run DOSBox efficiently. DOSBox is pure emulation and thus require a lot of processing power. I always advised people to have at least one gig of megaheartz if they wanted to use DOSBox extensively.

don't know what you think about it, but as i got problems running abuse in dosbox and vdms myself (it's just too fast), i would recommend to host the version jjxb suggests in his post on abandonia. naturally only if that's possible.
