Hi all,
I'm looking for games that can be played over the internet with other players. I would like to play with friends of mine, so a lounge where you can find other players is not necessary.
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers!

That is a very vague description of desired suggestions. If you're into RPG's, for exampe, I would recommend Guild Wars, Diablo II or Neverwinter Nights, all of them can be played over internet or through LAN with Guild Wars being exception I think - it can be played only over internet.

I thought that I will have to go more into details after some replies... =)
I do know Guild Wars, World of Warcraft etc. Since this is site is for abandonware, I was looking for abandonware games that support multiplayer via internet. I know that in former times the only possibility was to play some games in a kind of hotseat modus, but I'm sure that there are some games here on the site that support internet gaming already as well.
These are the games I'm looking for: "free" games to play against one or more friends over the internet.
Games of any genre really. =)

I believe the person wants something free- most of our visitors are either broke or won't admit the're not...
as for RPGs, I could recomend runescape.
or for startegies: shattered galaxies.
I'll be back with links.
Runescape (http://www.runescape.com/)
shattered galaxy (http://www.sgalaxy.com/)
Net Storm (http://www.abandonia.com/games/en/216/NetStormIslandsatWar.htm) (this game is actualy more up our alley, as it's abandoned. allthough you'll have to find some servers to play it on, I heard some still exist- it's a pretty good game :ok: ) -startegy.

Yes...that is a good one :ok:
Takes a while to actually finish though, but if you've got the time, might as well :)

It had LAN capability. Using VPNs, you can play it over internet.

I'll attest to that, Shattered Galaxies is an extremely awesome game. I used to play it for like 2 years. Wonderful graphics, awesome combat, it's really fun.

Well here is a Free Business Sim (http://www.starpeace2.com/)
Called Starpeace..it has a 7 day free demo, but the site is a bit outdated it also has a free world that you can play for a while.
The free world gets started over every so often, but you can play for a long time and be uninterupted.

TaSpring? It is a very good RTS, which is freeware and Open Source. Very fast paced and fun.

The Endless Forest (http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/) - it's not really a game per se, there's not much goal, but it's fun and the graphics are good...
