I dont know. Looked like the game has to much from the Sims, creating your own caracter and stuff. The attacking part seemed a little bit mwaa how do you say... boring.
Little bit childish too.

Read of it in a magazine somwhere last summer, can't wait to play it ever since. Even if the gameplay may not be so great (which I doubt) this game even deserves applause for the engine. I mean, no matter how many limbs, joints and feet you give the creature, it always has a procedual created, proper walking (and dancing) animation. Pretty much everything in the game is created procedual, which is pretty damn awesome (with the textures also created procedual, shouldn't this game be pretty small in size?)
The gameplay looks interesting, too, even though I think one should be able to skip some parts in the "evolution" of the creature. If I want to play some space conquering for example, I think it would be really bothersome to go through the whole cell > water > land > tribe > city develepoment over and over again.

Definately some refining points, but the engine IS friggin spectacular, and it looks like it could be really fun, especially if you watch the video instead of just the screen shots.

I remember this, I saw it in my PC Gamer mag awhile back.
It's actually pretty old, I think early 2005.

I've read about it in PC Gamer, but it still looks absolutely incredible...
I can't wait - one problem.
The game might begin small, but the more people who buy it, the bigger the game will get - oh dear.
If and when millions of people play it, it'll be about 10 gigs or something...
Argh...

I think I've read that there is a limit to how much your universe can be populated.
Either that or you can set the limit.
They probably would've looked at that problem anyway.
Thanks to this game, I can safely say I love Will Wright twice as much as I did before. :P

Well if you had watched the video...
The universe is populated by other people's creations, which you download on the game's start-up or something, they haven't said exactly how they'll do it, but the entire world is basicly your creation with the millions of creations from other people.
Which is a very exciting idea, but it has alot of things that could go wrong possibly.
EDIT: Wouldn't this thread belong in Favorite Oldies & Newbies? Or does that only refer to games that have been released?

Nope I only saw the images, and I imagine it would all be precoded so you wouldn't download much just like you don't in any other MMOG...

Afaik every content of every player gets loaded on some kind of "master server". Everytime your game starts (or everytime you want it to) this content gets downloaded to your comp. But although every race in your universe is made by another player, there's basically no interaction with other players. If you destroy the planet of another player, it's just gone in your game, not in everybody else game, too.

I'm definitley going to get it, it looks awesome, and it has the open opportuinity-ness of the Sims / Black and White / Civilization without all the annoying managment, it looks really neat, games like this where tehre are billions of ways to do it are always fun.

If you look deeper into it, it actually makes sense.
1) The universe this plays in is humongous, so lag wouldn't surprise me.
2) If a carnivorous Carebear is possible, Garfield should be possible, too ;)
3) I think he is referring to the whole "Planet go boom" thing at the end of the video
The way of saying the above things, was however, rather strange ;)

Soooo... It's a bit like, civilization, except you start from bacteria, you can be other creatures, other than humans, teach them technologies, move around with a more land based camera, and work your way up to controlling the universe? Okay maybe nothing like civilization, but anyway, yeah, looks pretty large-ish, yeah? Yeah.

Would we be talking in terms of Terabytes or what?
Don Andy

Well, since nearly everything is created procedual during gameplay, I don't think all the content will be that big.
So, instead of a big HD you'd rather need a lot of RAM and a good CPU.

But if you're going to be downloading stuff everytime you play, from everyone else who plays, that is really going to add up.

mm, I think maybe they'll come up with something where it only downloads things you want/are looking at etc.

The requirements are not that high-end. You'll need a 64 MB videocard, a 512 MB Ram and at least a 1.4 Gh Processor (I found these specs in some site.. Can't recall what the address was, though). See? What did I tell you? It seems the requirements are rather low-end. // Also, about the size: Hmm.. I think it won't be as large as some people assume it would be. I mean, after you evolve, you won't exactly be going back, right? So, logically speaking, the previous species you were in is going to be deleted (in some way). And about the environment getting bigger as you evolve, I think some of you are just thinking that way because... erm... it's hard to explain. Think the hair on your head and a stack of hay. There's just as much stuff happening in the hair of your head and in a stack of hay. Just look at it ratio-wise (but, don't forget to discard the bacteria activity in the haystack, because in the game, you won't be dealing with bacterias anymore when you've evolved to a bigger creature. You'll only be dealing with what's visible in the naked eye. THIS is what I meant by former species being "deleted in some way.") This means that however big the memory (and space) you're using up when you're a bacteria, most likely it's going to remain the same when you're a dinosaur (or something). Catch my drift? Hehehe.. Probably not. XD

That would be more than an awesome game... It would be the best game I ever saw in years!
However, all this anticipation would be wasted if it would be an online only game... :not_ok:

Well, I won't deny it, but since you just did catch it up on "some site" it doesn't really seem as reliable information ;)
I would even take 512 MB RAM and 1,4 Ghz as minimum specs, but 64 MB graphics....I dunno, I mean look at all the stuff he is doing when editing the creature. You ever worked with the program Poser? It's kind of the same procedure and it needs lots of memory.
OK, Poser-figures have a lot more polygons than usual game figures, but look at these things, that sure isn't low-poly.

Yeah, I have to say, my source isn't exactly reliable.. :)
Also, the 512 MB RAM and 1.4 Ghz that I mentioned ARE the minimum specs.. // But I'm sticking to what I said with the space and memory usage. Except, I want to change the analogy I made a bit.. When you're still a "spore," you're only viewing things in 2D, so, discard that.. Now, change it with the 2nd stage of your creature (in the video, the creature's already in 3D, swimming around).. The bigger your creature grows, the bigger your environment will be.. BUT, the former species that you were in is going to be deleted. You won't be dealing with bacterias anymore, once you become something bigger (like that swimming creature thingy in the video), instead, you'll only be dealing with someone your own size (not exactly, but close enough). So, however big (or small) the space you're going to be using when you're in that 2nd stage, it's most likely going to be remain the same when you're in the 4th stage, or whatever. Because the only thing that's getting bigger here is the size of the creature and the environment.
Oh, by the way, when I talked about the "naked eye," above, I meant what we see on our computer screen once we enter a certain species.
Sorry, not good with explaining things. So I'll shut up now. XD
did you know there's an official site (http://spore.ea.com/) for the game? allthough it satrangely lacks any serious substance. the flash intro is cool though...
