Have any of ever heard of WarCraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans.....
the warcraft-adventure game, which Blizzard cancelled.
You may have seen a preview of the game on the first version of Starcraft, on the first CD.
The game looked great, especially if you liked adventure-games like monkey island and strategy games like C&C and warcraft 1 - 2

A shame it was cancelled.

you can read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warcraft_Adve...rd_of_the_Clans
and here:
http://www.answers.com/topic/warcraft-adve...rd-of-the-clans

Do any of you know if there were any BETA-version ever released??? and if it can be downloaded somewere????

Cause i would like to know..

Such a game would fit nice to this wonderful site.

You can see some of the pictures and screenshots from the game here:

And you can download the prewiev to the game here:

That Wikipedia link doesn't work. Here's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warcraft_Adventures) one that does. Haven't checked the other links...

None of the links work here, but I've read 'bout a Warcraft adventure game back as a kid. Dunno its name or anything, but't kinda sounds like that's the one. Never hoped to hear anything 'bout it.

Edit: YARRR! Fruitpie! That's that game I read 'bout as a kid :w00t:

Never knew the game was cancelled, noticed it some time ago and then forgot about it again. Would've been an interesting game, though.

They cancelled it because they noticed that it sucked hardcore.
If you don't believe me, go read the interviews yourself.

I'm glad they cancelled it to go on with Warcraft III's production.

I still woulda wanted to see the game.
I'm sending them a e-mail, just out of curiousity.

yes maybe it did suck, i never played it, so i cant say, but would like to have played it.
it did come from different sources, that is Blizzard had many minor companies to contribute..... and then when they put it all together, it did not fit that well together - that is one the biggest reasons why it got cancellled...... that ive heard.

but like you, i still wanted to see it, very much.

btw the story was written into a pretty good book (which I have). Warcraft: Lord of the Clans. Is about thrall and his time growning up, and joining the frostwolf clan, and regrouping the orcs.

Yeah I read that.
I own that and the first three books that were released.
The first one was rubbish, but the second two (Lord Of The Clans, and the one with Khadgar and Medhiv were actually quite good).

Yes, i think it is sad that no one just had a beta-version of, that could be cool. :help:

They finished the whole damn thing.
They should have a copy lying around somewhere in their offices. You just don't throw away a finished product.

Of course they cancelled it!

It was an adventure game! No one wanted to publish 2D-adventure game anymore back then. It was all about 3D....

jalte s?rensen
26-02-2006, 11:23 AM
well, that depends, didnt monkey island 3 came out that year, or the year before???

But anyway i alwyas loved adventure-games, and i think that 3d-adventures for the most part arent as good as good old fashion 2d-adventuregames (SCUMM games).... but i think that grim fandango was a good 3d-adventure games, but all the others were bad, i think. i dont think that the adventure games of later years had the same,,,, let us say, attraction as those from the 80ties and early 90ties..... they werent as thoroughly made, i think.............. all in all i am talking in cicles, it is a shame the game was never released, Blizzard could at least show us the video-clips they made for the game,,, but it isnt smart being so sad about it, we have to look forward.

I believe myself 3D is way better than 2D.
I can't remember how many hours I spent in Wind Waker or Morrowind just relaxing and looking back at the sights, now that's fun.

But they didn't cancel it because it was 2D, they cancelled it because it was right around the release of Curse of Monkey Island, their game didn't look as good, and didn't play as good, so instead of ruining their perfect track record, Blizzard cancelled Lord Of the Clans.

I don't really agree that "All 3D adventure games are bad".
As mentioned, Grim Fandango was good, but what about Sanitarium? That wasn't 2D it was pre-rendered 3D :P
We had Syberia one and two, there was The Longest Journey, Myst series, Dark Fall and its sequel.
There are lots of good 3D adventure games.

But I just wanted to play Lord of the Clans.

im still hoping some blizzard-employer stole a copy of the game, and that it is out there, that could be cool. Or if there were a BETA-Version..................

but that will probably never happen

Blizzard could at least show us all those video-clip, which they made for the game,

There's better than a Beta version.
There's a completed but not properly published version of it.
Meaning it's a disk that has the full game on it, markered with the game's name on the front.

Just like when I got a Diablo II original disk of E-Bay, the version they play before release (near finished products, post-beta stage) are just plain CDs with markered names on them.

They probably have kept a few, they wouldn't throw them out.
They didn't finish all the puzzles/areas though, there were about 1 or 2 left to do at the end of development, it was about 95% complete.
Shame they won't release what they had managed to complete.

ok............ niece to hear.

Well it is true. ..... i my self (that is my bigger brother) got his hands on the Beta-version of Warcraft III,,, not legal. but whatever. it was cool. it look a lot like the finished produkt, exept that a lot of the units were a litttle different here and there, and the buildings (especially night elf) were different........ though the finished produkt were a great improvement of the Beta.
That is why i beleive that there must be a Beta... or something lieng somwhere out there

Remember the X-Files The Truth Is Out There

but i woul really like to see just a poition of the game,,,,,, but i dont think it is wise to yern so much toward things in the past, that may never come to pass.... or some well-fomulated sentence

The graphics were rather sub-par, they sometimes look like MS Paint drawings.
Otherwise I like the cartoony style.

jalte s?rensen
05-03-2006, 02:47 PM
yes, the game came from different companies, and that can be seen, unfortuneatly.....
You can see a difference in the graphics,,,,,, but still there must be a copy of it lying somewhere.... the programmers that worked on it for a year or more must have been disapointed when they learned that the game should be cancelled, if i were a programmer: i would take a copy, and give it to all the fans....... just to not have worked for a whole year in whane (or whatever the phrase is)

That indeed is a very dick thing to do. Hack his computer and get it...for the good of mankind.

I remember first seeing this game in a small magazine that came with Diablo or Starcraft and was so excited about the idea. Note the magazine was talking about the game being for sale by the end of the year, then nothing. So sad the game almost got finished before they binned it.

Wow...thats amazing.
There is chance that a small company buy this beta and complete the game ?
