Woo! Biomenace. If my bros know 'bout this and they can run Dosgames on their Linux-comps (why take Linux if you can't run Dosgames on it? ) they'd be here already to get it. Good job on this one :ok:

Never tried it, but I'm sticking with Halloween Harry for now. =) I don't think that I've ever beaten it.

This cheats can provide great advantage in the game, but also kill you if you use them too often, so use them wisely. :sneaky:

Super Plasma Bolt - hold down the UP-key for 2 seconds till you hear
"Charge up". Then press fire. This will cost you one hitpoint.

Fireballs - move six or seven times from left to right and then press
jump. This will cost you one hitpoint.

Shield - move six or seven times from right to left and then press
jump. You get a different colour and a shield appears. Last for a
very short time.

Invulnerability - hold down the UP-key for 2 seconds then press the
DOWN-key. You will blink and be invunvulnerable for a very short
time.

Too bad it's just the first episode; I believe I have it shareware somewhere. Still it's a great game. If anyone could upload the other episodes I'd be forever in his or her debt...

This is an awesome game that I used to play when I was younger. It was nostalgic to download it a while ago, only to find out it freezes after a while and won't run on my Windows ME system.

Le sigh.

This game is so awsome. It's funny, not to easy and cool in the same time.

At least it isn't available on 3D Realms Homepage any more...

Here is a Link to Apogee's FAQ. It lists all games that aren't sold anymore:

It just tells that the shareware versions are free to distribute. Nothing about the full versions...

Data discovered that the version we had on the site was simply the Shareware version, so he took it upon himself to bring you all the FULL version.

So now you can enjoy all the episodes in the game

Hallo
While playing the game "Bio Menace" the message <Critical file FILE_ID.DIZ missing or modified. If you purchased the game from Apogee simply reinstall the game. [So I did] You can call Apogee at (xxx) xxx-xxxxxx or refer to Ordering Info for more details.>

The game will not run to the next level.

The game freezes when running the game on DOSBox, but the music continues to play. Usually when encountering and/or shooting enemies. I am using the latest version of DOSBox, on Windows XP. Any tips?

Gamefreak
12-11-2005, 08:42 AM
Well, first of all try to increase the emulation speed in DosBox with CTRL+F12 (CTRL+F11 decreases again). And don't play the game in Windows XP, failure is guaranteed.

another_guest
12-11-2005, 09:38 AM
And if increasing the emulation speed doesn't work, try frame skipping (no idea how to do this in Dosbox itself, I use D-Fend as a front end to Dosbox).

Master MC
12-11-2005, 10:18 AM
20,000 CPU cycles: the game does freeze, but less quickly. Shooting a monster now makes the game go very slowly, followed by a freezement.

Gamefreak
12-11-2005, 11:44 AM
LOL, 20.000 is far too much, you don't need much more then just 8.000-9.000 for the game to run pretty fast. In fact, 20.000 would rather slow your system down again because of too high value, which it seems to do, too.

I am still facing the problem (the game freezes when shooting or killing) and I consulted the help file, which says this:
If your game locks up for no apparent reason (especially when firing a weapon, or when hitting one of the purple slugs), you'll need to try adding this to your CONFIG.SYS file.

STACKS=9,128

This seemed to be the answer to my problem, but I soon discovered there is no CONFIG.SYS, only CONFIG.BM1, CONFIG.BM2 and CONFIG.BM3. Was this file deleted or altered for compatibality? Any tips?

Data
16-11-2005, 07:18 PM
config.sys is a file that exists on DOS instalation.
has nothing to do with biomenace.

at the moment you can't run biomenace with dosbox.
You'd better wait till 0.64 or higher comes out as that one runs it fine.

That's just plain weird... Do you have the right version? (latest & Dosbox for Windows, if that makes a difference)
And have you tried using D-Fend as a front end to Dosbox? Sometimes Dosbox isn't that easy to use, but with D-Fend it's a breeze :)

Master MC
17-11-2005, 03:33 PM
I finished 2 episodes, but number 3 is strange; when completing level 2 or 3 the game just stops. Bah.

Maybe the episode file is corrupted, either downloaded incorrectly or is corrupted already on this site...

Me and my friend used to have a camp appreciation for this game due to all the corny, perhaps over-the-top corny humour and storyline involved in this game.

I liked this one particularly due to its cyberpunk, "apocalyptic" setting (I especially liked the no man's land level in ep1 ) and variety among level (the ant's cave level in ep3 was a favorite of mine).

It also had interesting robots and mutants. Like the "pogo-bots".

Snake Logan is my hero.

This awesome game was crashing everytime I usedin DOS. :wall:

So I took a little pill of speed and in one day, I did what I couldn't do in a week: Set my two sound cards up to work in Win98SE & MS-DOS6 as 4 different drivers, 2WDM and 2VXD. Now on Windows, it works great! :Brain:

Try re-downloading the game and make sure you use the right patch - just to be sure.

Yeah i remember this game back in the 90's i beat the first episode in 2 hours. It i still a good and fun game to play when you get that feeling to play a retro game. Its cool that Apogee/3d realms no gives all 3 episodes because i was too and couldn't order the other episodes, and VMDSound really helps, DOSBOX is a little annoying but its still playable...and the worst part there isn't any support, why dont they freeware all the old games, their like 10 even 15 and so on old...who wants to spend the time spending money on something like that...only a knucklehead would try and call 3drealms now...hehehe...=) I'm sure someone agrees with me..

Steve Tripod
13-04-2006, 05:57 PM
Yeah it crashed for me when i played in DOSBOX...best bet is to use VMD it always works when i use VMD Sound...you can get it off of dosgames.com in the utilities section..try that...

use 0.63 with the biopatch of dosgames.
0.65 needs a different patch.

3d realms offer this as a stand-alone download, all three episodes plus patch. It's certified as freeware now YAY!

I can't beat the 3rd level (ant town) in the 2nd episode, it really annoys me. Gah.
