Escape Velocity-A rpg of sorts in space. You get a starter ship and have to haul cargo to places or taxi around people, or whatever the mission asks you to do to earn more credits to buy bigger and faster ships to the extent of having a carrier which can launch fighers when you get attacked by pirates (or if you are a pirate, attacked by the police). The game even had an interstellar trade system, where certain supplies would be surplus or in demand on diff planets. Last time I played it was like 6 years ago or so on an old mac performa.

(forget name)-Was a sort of crime rts. Theres this city which is like a DnD game board. Some squares have industrial lots or casinos or whatever. You conquer each square and gain protection money from them. Capture a research lab and you can research new weapons for your forces. You hire certain mercenaries and use them to take over areas. It had a weapons research system sort of like X-Com. Last time I played this was on the same mac. Not sure of the name, might have been called "Crime Lord" or something like that.

I got both games from a mac magazine which sent demo cds to me. If you can't find them, I could probably mail you the cd.

Update!

Escape Velocity was published by Ambrosia Software(There is a new version out called "Escape Velocity: Nova", I'm looking for the original).
No name on the other game.
They were both on the "Gaming Megapack" which was from MacUser. The year on the disk is 1996, so they are both from that time period.

First of all, as for Escape Velocity, I never stumbled into it.... I guess it was never published for PC. However, if you find a PC version, I will be more than happy to put it up with proper credentials :)

As for the other RPG... you probably might have noticed that there are NO RPG games on the site whatsover! I never played RPGs so I don't have any in my collection, and even if I do acquire some, I won't be able to review them properly. That is why I'm desperately trying to find an associate which would help me out with that genre! I've asked a couple of people for help regarding this but they all ran away

Still looking though....

There is a RPG on the site. It's called Battletech. Okay it's not just a RPG and the RPG elements are not the most important of the game but still.

The problem with RPG on the computer, at least until a few years ago, was that you where better of playing them as they where ment to be played, on a table rather then on the computer. The graffics where always bad and the gameplay only slightly better. There are of course now people who are trying to find my home adres so they can brutally murder me for saying this but I stand by my words. Up until the late nineties RPG had no place on a computer. The Baldurs Gate came out and showed us how it was done. Gorgious graphics and even better gameplay. Hour upon hour I slaved away behind my computer wandering around the sword coast finding my lost heratige. The sequal was even better. Those two combined with a few others are sadly rare exceptions. RPG are difficult to pull of on a computer and I would not know of a single one for the DOS era worthy to put on any abandonware site.

I disagree ;)
I still love what was done with Ultima 6 and 7. They were brilliant in their day and actually pretty much started what is considered RPG these days.

Although other than those I don't remember any other RPG worth much.

Lord British all the way! :?

I'm back with another list of game requests :D
Okay i did a little search on other abandonware sites and a couple of games remained in my head:
Reunion
Settlers I
Street Fighter 2(the first one sucks)
The first two are classics and a lot of people would like to see them on the site. The would make a great update

The game Escape Velocit was only made for the Mac and for something called Pocket PC.

I have downloaded over 30 (not kidding, here) different files of this game... and none of them plays on the PC.

Escape Velocity: NOVA is made for the PC, but it is still active.

Sorry, people :(

but Elite plus is abandonware.

i managed to get Elite 3: First encounters.

great game, also the graphics are quite cool and it has realistic phisics, but unfortunatelly i don't know what's the goal other then achieving Elite ranking). i was amazed to see what huge universe (galaxy) they created here. unfortunatelly they should put in better goals and also some other stuff is missing and would be cool. like establishing own company and having a lot of different ships, so that you could make money and at the same time do military missions.

Uhuh? Baldur's gate was good but not that good, and the recent Kotor is just a shade of what the good DOS games of old times were capable of. Just look at Blades of destiny or Star Trail available on this site. And not even that, look at Wizardry 8 if you fancy graphics so much.

Wizardry 6+7, Ultima Underworld - The Stygian Abyss, Ultima Underworld 2 - Labyrinth of Worlds, Lands of Lore - Throne of Chaos etc... There are many old rpg's that compared to today's times were excellent at their time.
Ultima 8. I would still pay up to 100 € to buy the promised at that time, but never developed expansion/enhanced CD-version for that really nice game...

ok, this game i had A LONG time ago LOL, it was on a... i think a macintosh OS... or something like that (im not sure if they are old but i am only 15 and i played the game when i was 5 -8) its sorta like elite... what you did was transport passangers, cargo in a certain amount of time or did missions for the army or something, im not sure it was a LONG time ago... i also so remember there was like a star wars ad-on because i remeber dad telling me not to use the old save files because i would be in a strange area with a really fast ship, and when i say fast you would go flying across the screen... but you could buy things to add on to your ship and buy different ships and to travel to a new area you had to bring up a map and click on a little circle

there was some enemys to the east with really bad shields but excellent armor and you could conquer planets, i remember conquering earth really well... and enemy planets would turn red in the map screen... i know up north there were aliens and to the east there were pirates or something, can't remember what was south but to the west there was the majour enemy and i can also remember a alien race you could fight with against these enemys

if anyone could help me it would be great, i think just the name would help me remember more

I had a question about your avatar. Are you promoting the Nazi movement or is it a joke. Even if you meant it to be funny I find anything that says the something good about the Nazi's or jokeing about it highly offensive. It could offend other people here as well.

opps, sry, im an australian and these things are funny amongst us, but if u don't like it i can change it if u want... i don't see the big deal, i think its witty... also, just for referance, why is it so offensive  are u an american (no offense intended) but what is wrong with nazis....

just on another note i would still like someone to help me with this game, i can't remember much more but you could also buy, i guess they would be like pardons for crimes, because i remember i did some bad things down south and i bought, what looked like a credit card but it made every planet down south like you

That really sounds to me like Frontier (Elite II). Check this out http://www.frontier.co.uk/games/frontier/, Frontier and its sequel have been freed, with a shareware license though.

no, this isn't it... sry but you look at the ship top-down when you fly and you can only see yourself in space, and the graphics were alot crisper and not as pixelated... ever heard of transcendance... it is very similar to that except you have alot more control, also looking through the files it has more of a look of star control rather than elite, but it has more of elites game play... this is confusing

Maybe it's Privateer 2: The darkening (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/privateer-2-the-darkening)

As for your avatar: It's not obvious to everyone that it is a joke and it is NOT funny or okay, it's bad enough that we have stupid people on this forum using the names of nazis... :titan:

catchaserguns

Your Avatar sucks big time. Even if its a joke it is in very bad taste. Your Avatar inadvertaintly supports murder of the mentally ill and castration of anyone non-white. It is highly suggested that you change it.

Windy
21-10-2006, 10:59 PM
no, tis not privateer 2, you don't actually go into the cockpit, its always on that top down view, but the time it was made is right, also it defiently had a star wars add on, where you started off very neutral and then you could either support the rebels or the empire, i did and after a while i bought a super star destroyer and kicked behind...

and ill guess ill change my avatar, it has nothing to do with pro nazis though... if i wanted to be pro nazi i would put up the SS symbol or a picture of that auswitch place (sry can't spell) but im gonna change it to a ducky i drew, LOL it was for a pixel class on the interent i drew it for

http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7945/duckyattemptsp4.png

so what do we all think.... also in the game you could ask other ships to give you fuel, some will ask for credits others will just give it too you, and when you blew up an enemy ship you could steal there fuel... it was very similar to trancendance in look, ill give you a url to see what the sprites look like, cause that was what the game really looked like when you played it

Transendance (http://www.neurohack.com/transcendence/index.html)

now its the planets and ships that look similar... the space stations i can't remember

are u an american (no offense intended) but what is wrong with nazis....[/b]I'm North American, and I sure can't see the problem here. The people who seems to really have a problem with this are usually Europeans for some reason.

You guys have it all wrong. It's not by posting in his request thread that you will change things around, unless he is kind enough to do so only because you asked him. There is a report button at the bottom of every post, use it. If you think there is something wrong with the post, the avatar or the signature, just report it in a civilized manner and a mod/admin will look into the problem as soon as we get the message.

Thank you.

Edit: Well, what do you know... By the time I took to write all this, the problem already been solved. :)

hmmm, i might have to make another request topic, cause this has shifted from the game i wanted to know about to what a horrible person i am and that i like killing jews... i thought people had more sense then suspect others of horrible things... but then again i am an aussie, and we have a warped sense of humor

we still give you advice on the thread don't we?

I seem to remember a game called star crew or star control or something simmilar that matches the description.

and ot eagle of fire: maybe people from europe take more offence because we were closer to it? I had a relative who died in aischwitz and he wasn't a jew but a part of the political opposition in germany. sorry if We got off as angry but so would you if you were in the same position....

Thank you for changing it. It was highly offiensive to me to see that kind of ingnorat and certianly lame attempt at being funny posted someones avatar. The advents that hilter caused are certainly one of histories darkest moments not to be taken lightly or even joked about the way your avatar did. I am glad you changed it and hope maybe someday you will see why jokes about that are not funny in the least. Would you want somebody joking about that if was your hertiage and your relatives that slain abused for the pourpose of insane man. The big deal is that millions of people die for the cause of one insane man and others who very souls are tarnished by the envents that took place in the camps that they where forced to stay.Basically what your post did was advocate for their cause even if it was meant in a joking matter it isn't funny. Thank You again.

Hello there i believe the game you are thinking of is Escape Velocity Override, you can download a free trial of it from the companys website Here (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evo/) . Note that EVO is only compatible with Pre Mac OSX computers no Windows. You can however buy a copy of the sequel Escape Velocity Nova: Here (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/) and then get a plug-in for it that makes it EVO.

Escape Velocity Nova is availible for both Mac OSX Windows and older macs and is one of the best games i have ever played and it is definately worth the money. I understand your emotions in wanting to find this game as i too spent many years of my childhood playing EVO and the original EV

Way :offtopic: - but just a brief historical note on the whole Hitler issue - he was not insane, in fact if you read "Mein Kampf" you would learn that Hitler was in fact an astonishingly (and perhaps this is the most worrying thing of all) sane and intelligent man. The book, written before his days of leadership within the Nazi party, actually proclaims his respect for the Jewish people as hard working honest citizens. The reason he led the Germans against Jews is because the Germans back then resented the prosperous Jewish communities in Germany. Hitler played on that to gain votes and thus, come to power and go down in history (or so he thought) as the man who led Germany to glory. Another interesting fact - if you dissect national socialism, and remove the elements of ethnic cleansing and white supremacy, what you are left with is in fact an amazingly well designed form of communism that could really work. If Hitler's political policies, minus the anti-racial element, had been implemented in, for example, Russia, it's most likely Russia would be a very prosperous and powerful country now. Lecture ends here. :P

PS : I do not condone Hitler's actions.

Any time of socialism looks good on paper but you know what ruins the "perfect" system? PEOPLE! If it wasn't for people things would run right. But people's corruption and greed always destroys perfect theories. As the old saying goes power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. A deemocracy may not be the best but it is better than any dictatorship from the left or right. And this is a game forum not a politidal forum. So lets stick to thesubject this forum has in hand.
