Some people adore D-Fend (http://members.home.nl/mabus/dfend.htm) (a program to simplify the difficult DosBOX commands).
VDMSound (http://www.abandonia.com/utility/VDMSound%202.1.0.exe) is popular as well (another emulator).
If these programs do not work, read the Abandonia DOSBox tutorial (http://www.abandonia.com/main.php?nav=index&FAQ=1) or the official tutorial (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=Basic+Setup+and+Installation+of+Dos Box).

But, which game are you trying to run?

UFO:EU i assume.

Anyway, try the sugestions mentioned above.
If it doesn't work, post some more information here, exactly what isn't working.

(I have WinXP HE SP2, and i run UFO w/o any assistance of programs)

That's because it's the windows version, you need to find the Dos version. Isn't there a link somewhere on the download page for the Dos version?

Lazy, lazy, lazy!

Ever heard of "trial and error"?

J/K.

I don't remember exactly, since I don't use any frontend, so we'll go the hard way.
First check what the batch files contain - use Notepad to open them. The one you are looking for will reference TWO files in subsequent lines. One of the files will be intro.exe, the other one is the actual game executable.
Set this batch file to be run (where normally you set the EXE file)
