I was wondering what games you would recommend for a curious 2-3 year old boy.

Would have to be windows I suppose. I have most emulators to old consoles, but no gamepad here.

For *very nasty word*'s sake, why would ANYONE want a 2-3 years old child to sit in front of a PC? Heck, I started when I was 6, and looking back at it, even THAT was way too early. And that was with 16 colours and 320x200 pixels. 3D was a few dots connected by a few lines.

Get him out there and let him have some REAL LIFE experiences before you let him ruin his brain with the wonders of the digital world.

Well to all the people who are saying different things about it...

Having a child at the computer at an early age isn't necesarily a bad thing. The problem is if you simply put on a game and leave the child behind the computer for a few hours, so you don't have to worry about him/her.

If it's a planned activity (like playing Disney's: Follow the Reader) for let's say half an hour and the parent is there it's not much different (in fact it can be better) then real reading of children's books.

But clear time limits need to be set and the parent should be involved in the process. Probably other children as well. Sitting at a table with a child behind coloring books is also taking the child away from friends.

Taking the child to the park and leaving it in a sandbox (or at the swings) for an hour while sitting on a bench near-by isn't going to improve the parent-child relationship any either.

I say you can actually play just about any game, watch just about any movie, read any kind of books... As long as the parent is doing it with the child. If you leave the child alone with it to ocupy it then it's bad no mater how apropriate the thing is for the child.

Heya Chucky and thanks for bringing up a valid point. But from your post I take it you don't have children of your own?

Anyways, this kid (my girlfriends son) is like most children interested in what we grownups do, and that include games on the computer (both my girl and me play WoW). Thus he has a tendency of climbing up on our laps and try to use the PC along with us punching away at buttons and not understanding a thing, even though he really enjoys it.

So I though I'd get some friendly games and have a little quality-time that he REALLY could enjoy...

And just to put your fears to rest: Today we went out playing in the snow, he played with lego (the big type, Duplo I think) and with his wooden train-set among MANY other "normal" activities.
I think he get less than one hour PC-time each week (all of it supervised) if you add it up...

Oh, and in case you wonder, we do NOT use the computers both at the same time so that the little one is left alone. Well, not while he's awake at any rate! ;)

I've already tried the Little people thingies though. The Farm version was interesting for about 5 minutes, and the Mean street version wouldn't play. I only got a black screen with some white squiggles...

to those who wrote posts about bad effect on gaming

when i was younger(bout 3-5or6) my lifestile was something like that:
playng games for some hours(i had Nintendo console), then going out with my friends(i had loots of frieds)
..we were living in a very natural surrounding, so there was allways lots of thing to do..
then eating something, then playng with my games or nintendo, sleeping
-sometimes we went shopping or somewhere else with parrents etc.

now i study in mathematical class in a high school, have cool marks and much more friends. although i am being having enough of computer games and play MUCH less

so i dont know if influence of computer was so bad.. :angel:

Hmm, what OS are you using? IF you're running WinXP and you're computer is powerful enough you should really get DOSBox and run the game through it. It will work like a charm (along with many other games).

Maybe you should check this site out:
