Mortal Kombat is such a classic. I use to play this game whenever I needed to get out anger, I'd put it in, and use my favorite team combo, scorpion and raiden. One quick question, did anyone else find it weird that raiden was an immortal and allowed to fight in "mortal" kombat...this one really confused me, :?

Mortal Combat 2 was the best one. I had learnt absolutely every move for everyone on sega genesis so I ALWAYS won. It was so great in my childhood...*sniff* raised my self esteem.

The one that was really difficult for me was Mortal Kombat 3 cause the opponents were so tough, and also I didn't have the guide so I didn't know like any of the moves! Did anyone else think the 3rd one was unusually tough? Or was I just a wimp? :D

One of my happy childhood memories was one of my friends spending weeks playing on this game and learning all the moves, then on my first ever go on this game I beat him easily by just repeatedly tapping the kick button! Don't worry you're not the only one, early on with games like that I was the same way, that's how I beat mortal kombat too, using scorpion with his harpoon, as well as raiden with the flying spear thing. So don't worry, they're other out ther like you, hehe :D

Did you try to run it using DosBox? It's a DOS emulator program available in Abandonia-Programs. Expecially if you're using ME or X, it can be very useful.

You gotta use F1 or F2 (Player 1 or 2)-you can set up controls by hitting F8 (i'm not sure,just try all the others F- keys)

In such cases I press every button on the keyboard... I advice you to press only F1 or F2 :angel:

Well you should download DOSBox (read the guide carefully). When you install it and run the game in it you can speed it up (pressing ctrl+F12).

Mortal Kombat is a classic allright, with sweet moves and fatalities, but what really P!SSED me off is that damn difficulty. There is a point that the computer knows every move you do!! Even on very easy, the computer knows every move, and you can't do nothing, and that's on every MK, especially MK3, the computer character goes beserk on you, meaning I put it on last place. By the way, MK2 is the best MK in terms of characters, graphics, controls. Let me put it this way, MK started it all, MK2 puts it on perfection. Hands down my favorite MK's. :sneaky:

Yeah, the AI really sucks. In MK1 it's the most realistic, i.e it doesn't know what you'll be doing most of the time, and because of the slow gameplay it's beaten quite easily.

In MK2 on hard difficulties it does suffer from this "counter every move before you execute it" problem and it even cheats at times (executes moves impossible for you, like throwing from far away or countering uppercuts with uppercuts) , but is broken easily with repetitive techniques of jumpkicking.

In MK3/UMK3/MKT it plain sucks, executing tons of impossible moves and quick, almost unstoppable chain combos, but sometimes it tends to "get stuck in stupidity" and is beaten quite easily with some repetitive moves and projectiles from afar.

On a 1 player game, do a double flawless and Fatality in the Pit stage, then Reptile comes from above and tells you that yuo have great skills and you'll fight him.

:help: I love this game, but the controls dont really work, and i cant pull off any combos.. i dont have a joystick so is that my problem, cuz everytime i tap one of the directional keys, say right(toward opponent) ill just jump, and if i tap down sometimes ill just jump too. It's like no matter what i do i jump, and the only moves i can pull of are the basic atks and the retreating atks, so can someone plz explain how to use the keyboard to pull of combos, and how to keep my character from jumping....PLZ cuz i really wanna pull of a fatality!!! if anyone helps me, thx in advance :)

If you use the numbers is more easy ex: with raiden if you touch 2 times in n?4 and next in n?6 he fly against is enemy, you try with the numbers, and try many spells.. :cheers:

Sounds like you have a joystick/gamepad plugged in which gives you that conflict.

Unplug joystick or use that instead.

Also if you have a remote controller (for rc cars, planes, helicopters) connected: unstall the driver.

:cheers: thx guys, the number pad works fine, i guess the arrow keys are automatically assigned to jumping or sumthing. Any idea what I should do to win the game without changing difficulty...like what char u guys recomend, i like scorpion, but by my 5th enemy i start a losing streak...or is there any fighting tips u guys can give? :cheers:

If you're talking about the first Mortal Kombat, than maybe there are people who share your opinion, but if you're talking about all series than you ARE the ONLY one who doesn't like MK. :tongue:

I have been trying to beat that game for a month but I still fail : ). At medium difficulty i only got to third endurance. My favourite character is Sub Zero : > huumm and sometimes Raiden. The difficulty in this game is as few guys said before strange, once you can defeat all the opponents without loosing your life but once you loose all credits during one fight. I noticed that difficulty changes after third opponent. There are a lot of funny things about this game like awesome fatalities or Johnny's ball breaker. Have you tried it? : )) I did it against all the opponents and it didn't work against Sonia who of course have no balls but also against Johnny Cage! who despite his handsome look don't have balls : P

Any tips for Raiden or especially Sub Zero? I would be very grateful :)

Main tip is, of course, to learn how to do the special moves. Hopefully you already know these. For Raiden, Back back Forward does the flying attack and down forward punch shoots lightning. Flying attack is very useful.

For general tips, although Im not sure If this applies to PC version, enemies seem to use special moves depending on how much you use them.

Yep I already know them : ). I think you are right because actions of the enemies depend what moves I do. In my opinion Zero's freeze is very useful combo and after that I always try to push frozen enemy (before I hit him) toward the end of the arena. Using freeze while the opponent is close to me mostly isn't good idea because he often blocks that and I get hit after that. The creators gave Sub Zero powerful freeze but also made his second slide combo weak. Well I don't use slide very often because of its weak power but maybe key to win lies in using various moves... : )

Raiden body launch is damn good combo too because it throws your opponent to the end of the arena despite you are on the oder side : ). Teleport can be also useful but in lower difficulty level where the opponents still don't know what is happening.

Endurance fights are not good idea imo. They are too difficult for me : )
"Test your might" parts are quite funny and relaxing.

Almost. It only works if strange stuff is flying in the background (like witches, UFOs, zeppelins, kites). Also, you can't use Block during the entire fight.

I recently succeeded in it, and put the result on YT :)

I remember succeeding in facing Reptile once or twice, with Scorpion (couldn't get others' fatalities to work with the keyboard), but could never defeat him.
Guess one gets a badass result from mixing two ninja's basic colours.:D

Was MK1 the only game of the series where you couldn't LowPunch or HighPunch your opponent incessantly to death in one blow, without him being thrust back after 3-4 punches? God I hated that gameplay part on MK2.

Btw, some strategy-tip to fights:

I had trouble with Encurance: Rayden + Johny Cage until I've found a cheasy solution (very easy difficulty of course, not that'd mean anything if you ask me at that point): against Rayden start with jumpkick, jump back, then jumpkick rinse and repeat. Against Johny Cage crouch down, and eiither highkick (normal case), or when he does a special move do upperpunch.

Had a lot of problem against Kano in any battle, the cheasy way to dispose him is abusing Scorpion's teleportpunch.
Or you can go Sonya, jump backward until you have full distance, then X-ray, jumpckick, flipback; rinse and repeat.

Against Goro choose Sub Zero. Start with jumpkick, then jump backwards some (until you are sure the AI disabled itself), then freeze, jump to Goro, jump up at very close range and do a punch, then freeze Goro back imediately, jumppunch, feeze etc. If you got punched too much you may try crouch + highpunch when Goro is frozen, but that has risks involved.


As player character Liu Kang and John Cage sucks here too, and Rayden is not abusable sadly like in MK2. The good news is, Liu Kang won't be abused on you by the computer.

Kano is a good "notrick" character here, doing the longest jumps, having high strenght. Pretty trustable if you ask me.
