You can download a free, recent, 3D version of the game here: LDM 3D (http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f2038.html). i didn't enjoy it very much personally.

How do you transfer items from yourself to your burro?
I'm gold panning and I've filled my own inventory so I want to transfer my gold to my burro so I can get more gold.

left click to choose item, right click to place it. you cant do this while you are in a mine btw; you have to walk out.

Nothing happens when I use the pan in the rivers - does that indicate that there is no gold to be found?
EDIT
Nevermind, I got strange sacks out of nowhere in my inventory - which I could sell for a lot of money at the assay office
:bannana:
Gonna buy me a gun :guns: :sniper:
EDIT II
How can I load up my mule? And is it possible I completely ate all the fish out of the river? And yegh, that man eats snakes.
EDIT III
Bah, I'll shut up already - click on an object and right click on an empty grid in the mule's inventory, as mentioned in the posts above. :wall:
ted striker
02-01-2006, 02:31 PM
yes yes. it is possible to eat all fishes. thats what usually happens to greedy mankind eh? :D and if you cant find any gold try a different part of the river. and the mines that have metal frameworks in them pay maximum. but it is possible to find parts of an interesting (?!) artifact in those mines that do not have frameworks. so its wise to check every mine in the game in my opinion. there are over 100 mines i guess.

How do I distinguish mine from mountain? What do I need to enter a mine (like hammers, lanterns, etc.)? I used to walk around night and day across the entire map, hitting the spacebar when possible, and I only get a nice view of the scenery. This resulted in those stupid Indians shooting arrows all over the place.
ted striker
02-01-2006, 07:15 PM
in the desert map, when the black dot that repesents you is next to a mountain, hit space bar and youll see a cave ahead (entrance of the mine) afew seconds later you are in the mine. if you dont have a lantern (and matches to light it) you cant see around. if you dont have a pick and a shovel, you cant mine. in some mines you need a rope to climb and dive. and gloves reduces lost health points i suppose. a nice spot to begin mining is the single mountain positioned northeast of city. approach from east. when black dot touches mountain, hit space.
I just tried out this game and I love it! It kept me playing for four hours (an its about 16 years old)!
But I donīt quite understand: What do I need the knife and the shovel for? :help:
ted striker
02-01-2006, 11:08 PM
i've tried to mine without a shovel and it worked. so im really not sure about it.. i havent finished the game, maybe it will have some use later on. same goes for knife.

Maybe a stupid question... How do I get gold out of the mines? I don't see particular 'gold spots' so I just start hacking. But that does not produce sacks 'o' gold or something else.
O, and an other question, what is the use of sleeping, except for that the shops are closed and I need less food? It's just like during daylight, where I can drink water, eat fish and attend mines...
ted striker
03-01-2006, 02:51 PM
goldspots are yellow, shiny, tiny, cracks on grounds at dead-ends of mines. they are usually in mines that have frameworks (is there a single word for such structures in english? :P) its impossible to miss them. maybe you are mining in wrong mines? (the ones that dont have frameworks or ladders :P) when you encounter such spots, press and hold space and old-timer is gonna use his pick until yellow color is gone. and a brownish sack is gonna be added to your tools inventory. if your inventory is full you cant mine anymore. you have to go out and put the sacks in your burros inventory. so keep a few blanks in your tools inventory before you enter a mine. and there are several spots in a mine to dig.
Master MC

I'll be darned! I looked in another mine, and hop, 'frameworks', a cart with gold in it, etc. Thanks for the tip(s).

from the manual: "...SLEEP: After 6 PM, an option to SLEEP is available. Although your health does not rely on sleep, there are times when you will want to take advantage of this feature. Clicking on SLEEP will result in the immediate passage of time. After a brief fade to black, you will find yourself in front of the saloon at 9:00 the following morning..." i sleep if im in town after 6. it makes me feel good :)

That brings me to something else... You can buy Long Johns and a blanket in the shop. Can you actually sleep out in the open?
Woah! $500 for one sack!
ted striker
03-01-2006, 03:14 PM
i think you wouldnt be sleeping literally. but your health will decrease less rapidly if you posess long johns and a blanket out in the open at nights. keep digging :P i wonder who is gonna find the lost dutchman mine first around here? btw this is a true story. check google for "lost dutchman mine."

Yeah the 3D game you posted some time ago also tells the story of mr. Jacob Waltz (anyone remember the Scrooge(Đ) story where he actually finds the mine? not much information but not that interesting anyway (http://www.lost-dutchman.com/dutchman/fiction.html#rosa))

Yes, by playing without one
Just move around with the cursor keys, the space bar is the 'action' key (eg switching between screens, shooting the gun, hacking for gold in the mines etc.). Alternately, I think numpad 1 is also appliable but I'm not sure. Just use space.

Hi all,
I'd like to ask your opinion on this:
My oldtimer stepped into a mine that first looked like a usual mine with frames (?) and ladders, gold and so on. Then I found a passage downward to an unexplored part of the mine. The whole walls were glimming like gold (Is this the lost mine?), but i couldn't get it. Trying to get back out, I had to see that the exit wasn't there anymore, just a dead end.
So I went further down, where came into a room with several ropes and spiders running up and down the ropes. Having managed to climb the ropes without having died from the spiders (after some trying), I came back to the usual part of the mine with an exit, but nothing else...
What's it all about? Just a gimmik? The lost mine? Don't know..
Maybe You do?
Greetings,
Jochen

Go to the saloon when it starts to get dark, you'll see the option 'sleep'. After a dark screen you'll stand in front of the saloon at 9 AM.

i've got 10000 bucks at the end of the first week and i tried for caves usually. buy three burros and hang around mines for a few days, fill your burros with loads (one mine makes around 15 sacks usually, which equals around 4500 bucks) so if you mine hard youll have 18000 at the end of the week.. but havin that much of money is nothing according to game progress. whats important is to find the lost dutchman mine rite? you need money to buy food, merchandise and payin for your medication. thats all.
ted striker
05-01-2006, 04:35 PM
two tips:
if ladder is blocked by falling rocks, use your pick until fallen stones are gone. then youre free to descend.
there arre two types of packs if you noticed: 1- small packs which wort simply nothing (these are panning sacks also) and 2-big bags which worth more then 400 usually (one of my big sacks made 640 bucks). if the first sack in a mine is small then dont bother to dig that mine. though still explore it maybe its the lost mine.

Using korea.sav, I gambled with Dapper Dan using extravagant bets. In that way, he could only offer a piece of a map. I felt I achieved something big - but it was only a small piece of the map you can buy at the mercantile. Now how useful is that!

finally managed to grab some gold from down there, past the spiders. Then I had to go back to town and claim the mine at the assay office. That's all.

Hey, just wanted to let you all know that I just found the Lost Dutchman's Mine. It was in the upper RIGHT hand corner of the screen, where the mountains make a kind of cove around the desert. Someone else mentioned on here that they thought they had found it, and they were right. It was in a mine with the framework, but I had to use the rope to desend to a lower level. Make sure you have the rope with you, or you can't get to it. I had the pick, shovel, rope, lantern, and matches with me, plus 5 canteens and the rest food. There was a load of gold in the mine, and I had to leave to unload and get the rope before going back in. Anyway, when you go down the rope, the ceiling starts caving in, and if you don't move immediately to the right, you'll get knocked down several times, and die. When you go to the right, there's a passage way, then a room with multiple ropes, with spiders climbing up and down the ropes. The room is glittering with gold, but you can't mine any of it. You have to climb up the ropes, avoiding the spiders, and climb out of the room. The third rope is the only one that will allow exit from the room. Then, when you reenter the town, and go to the assay office, there is a new option available, called "claim". Hit the button, and you get a claim number. Then when you leave the office, there's a little congrats screen saying that you found the mine, and you're instantly weathy and famous. There's a picture of you standing in front of the saloon wearing a tux and tophat. That's it. Hope you all find it too!
PS. I started the game by going to the saloon and playing poker. There's a little glitch where if you bet, but don't enter an amount, the opponent will never raise. If you have a really good hand (three of a kind or better) just type in a large amount, close to or all of your amount, and he'll probably call. I made about $50,000 in about 10 minutes, and the clock time didn't change. I then bought supplies, all three mules, revolver and ammo, and started mining. Hope this helps!

The only things I use when I'm mining is a couple of canteens, fishing hook, fish that i've catched, pick, matches, lantern and pan. Sometimes revolver, bullets, gloves and rope.
Do I need anything else? Like, can i sleep in the desert if i have longjohns and a blanket?
As I remember it, the lost mine moves and aren't at the same location in every restarted game.

Hey! ^^
Isn't this game the best? I just started playing it todat for the first time in years, and came across the lost mine by accident. (With NO help from the map, by the way!) If you insist of running the game in plain Windoze... You can change the language settings in Windows Control Panel, under Globalization (I think it's called that way in English version... it's a little globe icon, anyway...). The cursor vanishes only if the code page setting for non-unicode programs is set to Japanese.
If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about,I suggest you use DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net) to run this game instead. You can download it here (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1).

Wow!!! I just downloaded this game and I loved it!!!! It's just the style of game I like! It reminds me of my beloved Harvest Moon. It's like a Harvest Moon meets American Old West.... or maybe the opposite since Dutchman is older... well, whatever. The point is... the game is great. I haven't played it enough to get all the tricks. In fact, I tried to google it but didn't get much info on the game itself like faqs and such.
Does anyone know of a goodwebsite for this game?
I should be studying for an exam.... :whistling: But, hey, I think it was worth it. Sort of ^_^

I'm running the game in DosBox. I used to play it YEEEAAARRRSSSS back on my old Commodore 3600 (I think it was a 3600...).. anyway, it seems to be running slow as hell, and the mouse is invisible until I click on the screen usually twice.. also, using the arrow keys to walk, when I press the arrow, he takes a half step, stops.. and then after holding it for another second or so he'll keep going.. this is all making things quite difficult.. for instance with snakes or robbers it takes like 5-10 seconds for me to get the mouse to even show up to click run.. did I mention that walking is soooo much slower then it should be? I've adjusted the framerate, and the frameskip, neither seem to have a positive effect.. now, to explain why this is confusing me:
I'm running the game on DosBox
I have a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 Processor Win XP
512 MB of Ram
I love/loved this game.. anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Welcome!
I just downloaded the game and played it until I've found 6 parts of the hidden map. Since the map is split into 9 different "squares", it's hard to collect all the pieces. I got one from the pokerman in the Saloon, and the rest came from stalagmite caves (so not the goldmine-caves).
The problem is, when I grabbed the 7th piece of the map, I received an interesting graphics:

Nice one this is.
It's pretty complex game for something from 1989, IMHO.
It takes some time to catch up with game mechanics and then the real fun starts.
I also tried 3D remake, it's a piece of shIt.

Whiskey is close... the answer also starts with 'w'.
Seriously though, the store sells flasks which you can fill at a river.
...I think. Haven't played this in a while. I remember getting bitten by snakes and shot by indians a lot as a kid. Surprisingly the game felt a bit easier when I revisited it this millenium.
