Is there any connection to Rockstar Ate My Hamster? I've always wanted that game. Is this the same thing?

No connection at all.
This (http://mobygames.com/game/shots/p,19/gameId,8893/) is the game you seek.

this rockstar! game blows rockstar ate my hamster out of the water.
why, based on this game alone wizard games is as good as rockstar games in my mind. rockstar is so random that it is eternally addictive.
thanks for letting me grab it.
I played this game in the early pc days and I loved it. :Brain:
I wonder why no one ever tried to make a new game like this?
I know there is Project Rockstar, a multiplayer online game, but I really would love to play an up to date Rockstar kind game...

There are loads of freeware music industry sims but I can't think of one where you are actually the artist - certainly no good ones. It's a good point, you would expect someone to have remade this!

Hopefully someone will see this quickly -
Every single time I try to start a new game, it freezes on me. Is there a way to get past this, or will I need to find another copy to download?

This game rocks (no pun intended) but I have question, after a little while of playing (and dying LOL) when I start a new game and release albums and singles and such, my charts aren't showing anything, just grumbled up stuff, anyone have any idea as to why?

Yeah, I had that same problem. In my case it had something to do with the option to change other artists name. When I reinstalled the game with the original names the problem disappeared as long as I don't edit the names again....

Hav Metal *meep*ers!...let's rock.yeeeeea.....Metal!!!!Good game but it is kinda tricky..too may drugs, you die.Too few drugs, you die of depresion and arren't at all creative.good game though. :Brain:
I've been wanting a game like this for a long time and wondering why one's aren't made. There are actually a couple of other games I found in this genre - both free. One was too simplistic to be fun and didn't even let you name your albums and songs. One had cool graphics - but was too buggy to work. I wish I remembered their names but I don't.
Why aren't games like this made so often? I desperately want to play a more complicated version. If only I had the skills, I'd *write* a more complicated version.
Anyway, a great little game well worth playing.

Has anyone else heard of the game Quest for Fame? I have it on my shelf, and it's been a long time since I tried to use it. It came with a "virtual Pick" (I kid you not). This pic is a plastic v with a long cord going to a serial plug. You slap it against your thigh or gut or whatever you wanna slap it against in time to music. Doing this well allows you to progress from jamming in the bedroom, to garage band, to recording artist. If you played right, you could end up on stage with Aerosmith (they are pictured on the back of the box, digitally jamming with you. Really. Says copyright 1995. Unless you can use the keyboard as the pick, I don't see anyone playing it. I'm not sure if you can. I'm going to install, and find out.[FONT=Arial]

here, look at this.

yeah...... played the demo of this for many years on my win98se machine no probs. the demo is enough for me. Am currently making a movie star version of this in Flash; similar but with more options but keeping the randomness so you can't figure the engine out. As much fun as old Dopewars

Does anyone know how to run this game in Win XP? I tried the obvious ways but it didn't work
hmmm... I wonder how Wizard Games went with selling it as shareware? Did they make some money or not? Are they now just old dudes who gave up the dream... where are you guys now?

Hi,
Just searching for this old classic because an online rockstar game has just been re-launched. I used to play it a couple of years ago. Anyway, thought you might like to see it: The Rockstar Game (http://www.therockstargame.com)
If its like the last version i used to play it'll be great - carl says it will be up and running proplery in the next week or so.

I actually bought this game about 7 years ago so I know they made at least one sale.
It arrived on one of those things called a floppy!
I think you can still buy it for $10 see:
http://wizardgamesplus.com/store-products-...r_16549753.html (http://wizardgamesplus.com/store-products-PC-Software-Rock--Pop-Star-Games-rps1-Rockstar_16549753.html)
There are alot of old dos text shareware games that I would like the full version of, but could never get in contact with author after a few years.
Anyone remember the kingdom called Prince, it let you rule a kingdom, build army & store food etc, it had an add to buy the game approx every game x4 rounds.
Anyone played megalopoly?

This is one of my favorite games ever! It never gets old! In response to an earlier post about why this game hasnt been re-made, i've been thinking the same thing for years. I've even been trying to re-make the damn thing in qbasic, and now in visual basic, with music videos and all kinds of stuff but i suck so I suppose i'll just have to keep playing this. Rock manager is a pretty fun game if you like Rockstar, it's not as fun, but at least you can record songs and hear the music.

Yes, I've enjoyed playing this game for a while. One thing annoys me is when you become a megastar (I think thats the one), and popularity decreases for no apparent reason. Also, you can't tour, because that also makes popularity go down. It hasn't happened only a few times, so I try to save those games where I can make it to the top with popularity in-tact.

I found that once I got to being a rockstar (which was where the shareware version ended), time would always be running out for me as the game basically forces drugs on you at this point, and heroin will get out of hand very fast. No amount of refusing drugs, setting drug habits as low as possible and doing rehab when given the option would keep my character from dying not long after.
Still, fun while it lasts.

This was one of my favorite games back in the day. I'd stay up late after a night out partying playing this. I had been looking for it for again for years and can't wait to play. I didn't want to mess with dos emulators so I got an old pc and installed dos. When I brought the game up I was thrilled to start participating in behaviours I gave up years ago.

I can only get megastar status on the easiest setting, and even then, my gigs turn to toal crap and I ended relying solely on European record sales after achieving rockstar status. It was kinda weird; Local, U.K, and America had absolutely no fan feedback meter while Europe was full.

16-05-2006, 05:58 AM
Have you changed the names of the other bands? I'm not sure, but I have a feeling it can mess the game up. I had the same problem a while back, every now and then the other fan feedback meters went to 0 but one, and sometimes all of them went down, and they never came up, even if I was throwing good gigs there.
Another thing I noticed every time this happened was that none of my records would ever get published. The status on the album list changed to "due out now" when it was about to be out, but it never came out.
I reinstalled the game and left the other band names untouched, after that it has been working fine.

best way to stay "creative" is to go medium on on drugs except for heroin, stay far away from heroin, several deaths :tai: from heroin.

Moral of the story: Do not become a rockstar :ok:
Very fun. I got to the rockstar level, and ALMOST got to the next one. I didn't die from Heroine this time, but after i became addicted to the stuff, when it MADE me use it ( <_< ), i went to drug rehabilitation. and i got really sad. I forgot to go on vacation, so i slit my wrists and bled to death.i died with several million quid, several singles, and such. The press still said "good riddance", though
Like i said before, very fun game while it lasts, but still can be very confusing :wallbash:

I managed to keep myself alive for 7 years and was a Megastar. Then I got food poisoning and while in the hospital they operated on me and I bled to death due to doctor's error!! It was very lame... -_- I also was having problems with the force drugs. I was in this loop for at least a year where my guy would go to record, have a heroin overdose while recording and go to the hospital, as soon as I get out of the hospital no matter what I chose it said The recording company forces you to go record. While I was there, heroin overdoes. Back to the hospital. I didn't know what to do. Thankfully my contract ran out. Also why did my guy commit suicide three times with a full happiness meter? Some things about this game just don't add up. I kept being told to go visit my analyist and he would say I was washed out, very happy, and extremely hyperactive. What can be done about hyperactivity?
This is a really fun game but some things don't seem to make sense.

Did anyone ever find the name of that game? I remember playing it years ago.
You could buy a car or a house or practice in the streets. You had to buy an instrument in the beginning and choose traits for your musician. I really want to play it again! :)

I've found an interesting little problem that occurs when I try to run rs.bat in DOSBox. Basically, the game runs much better than by just running it in command prompt (you can even read the writing because the clock speed isn't all crazy like) but unfortunately, it never releases any records you make! Bizarre game it is.
Love it though. So far my record is 9 years, half way to megastar, then random suicide whilst on holiday of all things.

I'm looking for a game that's quite similar to this one, the developer who made that game also made a game where you are a game designer and another one where you're a novelist. I can't for the life of me find the titles to these games though.. Help would be appreciated!

The original requester will probably never see this, but someone else looking for the game might:
I found the game archive by sheer accident, and uploaded it at http://tinyurl.com/superstar-all (the archive includes the game as well as the latest patch).
The registration code is "xcksu".

I love the concept of the Rockstar game. Anyway, I tried your link and downloaded the zip. I can't seem to be able to run any of the executables in the zip. I tried the Dos version in Dosbox and that crashed. I tried the windows version and that didn't run on Windows 7, even in compatibility mode. Any ideas?
