actually, the bible DOESN'T say anything about the date he was born.

We celebrate it the 25th because the catholic church raped the holiday from the Pagans, kept the same date, and called it CHRISTmas (catholicized it.) They actually did that with most pagan holidays, because it was easier to ease people into the church or something like that.

But basically, most major holidays are originally Pagan that the catholic church changed the name and meanings (Halloween for example)

actually, I think they stole it from the Romans who honored Saturn. The winter solstice, by their calender, fell on the 25th. The festival was called Saturnalia. They glorified past days when the god Saturn ruled.

Actually, there's a pretty thorough explanation HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas#The_origins_of_Christmas).

I'm not trying to be controversial, but anyone that claims the Catholics invented Christmas and most of their holidays is mainly saying that in ignorance.

Who cares who invented it? Just enjoy good food and presents, and of course free time :D

Happy Birthday... um... er... yeah. Just got on my mind that I don't believe in religion. Hmm... this is another brick in the wall, Chaotic... ooops, I mean Chatolic church "invented" Xmas, to use it to lure ppl into the Church, that's disgusting.... But I like the Holidays, no matter if its for Saturn or Pluto or anybody :D The thing is many scientists think that Jesus acually was born in springtime, somewhere around April.

I dunno if its true or not, but interesting

If I've understood this completely, yes, the chistians did take the date for christmas from pagans, but the reasons are a bit more understandable.

Think of the early christians, when christianity as a religion was commonly hated and outlawed. They celebrated their holidays on the same days as the Romans did their celebration just to blend in so that they wouldn't be recognized and get killed. That was a bit more discreet.

Religion is flexible, just like a company it adopts to the market, and tries to conquer it...

For all the religions and alternative religions that exist, I think tolerance, even respect, should be shown in a public forum as remarks like the above can be seen as inflammatory and offensive.

For this reason this thread is now being closed.
