Here's a link I thought some of you might find interesting http://www.gamespot.com/pages/features/bestof2005/index.php?

Gamespot have compiled a list of the best and worst games of 2005 - including genre awards. They claim that while there's been a decline in adventure games for the PC, there's been a rise in these games for the hand held and console game systems. One of the winners, Indigo Prophecy, looks interesting to me. Of course, Myst V: End Of Ages was mentioned as well. The overall game of the year won't be announced until Saturday.

Seems every site ever made that has heard of these here video games is compiling these things. Although the fact that they have perfect dark in the best shooter finalist category is disturbing.

LOL

Sean will love this. Far Cry Instincts is a Finalist for best Shooter.

And I've been dying to play FEAR since it came out, looks very good.

You know, I haven't really bought that many games this year. In fact, I don't think I played any.

Oh wait, I picked up some console game called Suikoden IV or something. It was pretty awful, reminds me while I like computer games more than I like console ones. I'm not even really sure what came out this year.

RE4 deserves the praise it recieved though. Immersion as I haven't experienced since Half Life. One of the few games where you actually do feel a constant ebb of fear.

That looks an interesting list, Moogle. Have you actually played all those games?
I agree with Indigo Prophecy for best adventure...though haven't played it. Just read a review and have a good feeling about it.

If I could make a suggestion Moogle, move RE4 to straight best GC
and put God of War or Shadow of the Colossus for best ps2 (My bias is towards Colossus though... one of the best I've ever played)

My personal top 3 is

- Civ 4

- FarCry

My personal Flop 2 is

I can't really speak for flops, as I never, ever touch a game that sets my gamers intuition a jumping.

My best for the year:

Resident Evil 4
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Shadow of the Colossus (ties with Resident Evil 4 for first place in my book, even though I played RE4 much, much, much more, Colossus is just, well, it's art is what it is)
Killer 7
God of War
Indigo Prophecy
Psychonauts
Myst V
FEAR
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Meteos
Mario Kart DS
Wario Ware: Touched
Gunstar Super Heroes
Zelda: Minish Cap

(Why oh why Nintendo did you delay Twilight Princess? Haven't we Gamecubers suffered enough? You force my hand towards my dreamcast at times, Nintendo...)

Yea... the fact that they're missing Two Thrones in the platform catagory pretty much speaks for itself... and failed to put Colossus anywhere in the genre awards is also pretty sad.

Not just that, but the bandwith the site eats
And I can't even see the winners since it makes me watch videos...

TheGiantMidgit

Yea... I really don't want to watch a bunch of gamespot goofs, so I didn't even bother to see what won or not.

To be honest, I won't be able to tell you the best games this year for another 2 days. Then when I get my annual influx of expensive gamey stuff I can say.

Im also getting a joystick.

So who actually won genre awards by gamespot?

TheGiantMidgit
23-12-2005, 08:56 AM
http://bestof.ign.com/2005/ another similar compilation, gives you a rough idea of what Gamespot picked, and no videos to screw around with. I'd tell you what Gamespot actually picked, but I don't want to wade through their crap, and I really doubt it matters what they chose anyhow.

Tulac

Well it basically doesn't matter since I haven't layed any of the awarded games...
Except Call of Duty 2 and Civ4 that is... (I'm talking about the IGN awards)

TheGiantMidgit

You don't know what you're missing. I even bought Colossus, and I had to borrow a playstation to experience it. I do not regret such a purchase for a second. ...and don't get me started on Resident Evil 4. I thought that series was dead in the water, and they totally proved me wrong....

While I believe that those games are great, I'm not much of a gamer anymore...
Not to mention my PC is outdated for games like F.E.A.R or Brothers in Arms...

Ah, understandable. We all grow in and out of things.

Personally I prefer Mobygames' lists:

w00t Fallout.

But FEAR is an excellent game. I just think a lot of the scores are influenced by people that don't have any idea what they are talking about. Like the Spike TV Video Game Awards. I mean, come on, Halo got awards. Please.

I do not trust any of'em. I can compile a list of the best games on my own. I don't need them to do it. :not_ok:

Well, they have Colossus as number one, so I can't very well argue.

Some of the categories, like overall winner, won't be announced until 5pm Saturday and Sunday, Moogle.

Glad I started this topic to give most of you something to complain about :bleh:

I know, but I'm looking at the genre winners, and it gives a link for "Who won" but nothing happens except it brings up some screen with a bunch of crud.

OK, just went to check out the video section...but as I've got the slowest dial up in the world, it's hard to estimate if it's working properly as I can't go into streaming mode. In the box where the vid is supposed to stream there's only a commercial running. But as I only connect at a mighty 32ks perhaps I'd have to wait another week for something to happen. :tai:

Perhaps the vids haven't been uploaded yet. On the index page it mentions that other awards and options will become available later in the week. You've prob. already seen the html versions for the genre finalists, but in any case here are direct links:

Wait another 12-24 hours then click on any of these links, plus the 'presenting the winner' button, and the overall winner and vid should be displayed. If not, we'll demand our money back. :ranting:

biggest flop of the year in my book = Serious Sam 2

for those who never played b4, they loved it. For those who had been anticipating the sequel, it was a kick in the groin
