N00b bashing, nazism, satanism, pervertism...etc.

Is this the first sign of the Destruction of the Abandonia.

Plus, our well-known member, Sebatianos, left suddenly without telling the reason.

Thats the second sign.

Oh, i might be offline for the next couple of weeks, so dont wonder where i am.

I would say that forums became more interesting lately, and the situation on the forums hasn't got to do with the site, which is still updated daily...(although it was announced many times that they won't be able to keep up that tempo)

I think the n00b bashing is mainly coming because the n00bs don't read through threads or rules or FAQ's or anything like that, and forum members get impatient answering the same questions over and over (such as how to use DOSBox and stuff like that)

Members always come and go - then come back again. :D

Same with good times and more difficult ones...they keep alternating, too. Remember after ESA pounced? Many thought that was a pretty dark time, but Ab survived and many new games were added.

As for alternative religious beliefs (can't comment about perversion as I didn't encounter such threads - didn't notice newbie bashing, either, except for someone asking about warez), I think everyone has been pretty respectful and tolerant - which is a good thing.

Now it's just another site with a active forum that has a large selection of abandonware

Do not forget we are still completly over shadowed my HOTU. Many people still call this a unimportant abandonware site. </motivationalmode> But don't blame this on the admins or any other site. This is all of our faults. If we want this site to bloom we need to do it ourselves. If not us who will. Do you just want to allow HOTU to take over the Abandonware scene. Well in Croatia at least it is the most known abandonware site...
You wouldn't believe how many refferals I've seen to abandonia, during the last year, on different Croatian forums...

There was an amazing story about Abandonia's early days, when the only members were Kosta and Titan. Apparently Kosta became disallusioned and was going to delete the site, but Titan suggested he wait a little longer to see if it would take off.

Sadly you will not meet someone randomly in real life who is like. Oh abandonia im a regular. on the other hand. HOTU you spit in the air and have a ok chance of hitting someone who goes to that site.

meh, people leave randomly all the time man...some people do have lives outside of the internet (heaven forbid!)

and every has their own views about other people, its something that will never be removed from society

HOTU and AB have different priorities. HOTU focuses on an entirety of database, which includes some Roms from time to time, and games that're generally concidered crappy just as well as great games. AB focuses on quality Dos games, with elaborate information 'bout them. Just compare the reviews from AB with those from HOTU... or the screenshots. You're lucky if you even have one screenshot of a game on there. On the other hand, their database is massive. AB's database pales in comparison. Those all attract a different public.

Oh, andeh... my kid bro frequently downloads from AB, but I never told him 'bout it. He seems to've found it by himself, and browses the main site of AB, not of HOTU. He's not really a gamer, visits forums 'bout cars, but found his way here anyways. So... I know somebody IRL that knows 'bout AB who found it by himself, and that didn't know 'bout HOTU :bleh:

Well, one must remember that HOTU was started ages ago, and quality-wise it was clearly the best site around - there were no other sites that would provide as much information on abandonware games. It has been around for so long that it has grown huge, and updating the reviews and whatnot to match for example Abandonia's would take forever. Thus, the assets of HOTU lie elsewhere.

One should also remember that the problems faced by abandonware sites these days were first solved by HOTU. For example, Underdogs was the first one to refuse to close down her site when ESA (former IDSA) requested her to. In addition to that, the buy links to still-sold titles were first employed by HOTU.

As for the community, the one at HOTU has been present for over half a decade(!), and many of the early members are still around. Having been together for such a long time (long for an online community), the group has come to know each other inside-out. There's a long common history that binds the people together. This is something that Abandonia is yet to create.

While Abandonia is a great site, the importance of HOTU should be remembered nevertheless.

As for the doom of Abandonia, it's all just similar development that has already been witnessed at HOTU. When the awareness of the site increases and the database expands, more and more people enter the community. The loud (or productive) ones are those who direct the way the forums take. It's not descrution, it's just evolution.

Racism and Pervertism; always happened everywhere. The Abandoned have nothing to do with that. Just look at the number of closed down topics, you'll see what I mean.

Satanism is just a religion, like any other. While you have the right not to agree with it, others also have the right to agree with it. The best thing to do is to let it be and don't participate in conversations involving religion if you don't agree with it. I myself am an Atheist... And again, the same argument I just used for racism and pervertism apply here too. At the very worse, if it really bother you then make an official complaint to an admin (after talking to the offender, which always help) and they'll look into it. If there is enough complaints then action will be taken. Namely, they'll ask for him to remove his signature...

Noob bashing: Data have this title for as long as I can remember, and a lot of noobs actually need to be bashed on. It's a fact, there is always a set number of noobs who get banned here every year. Here (http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8831) is a perfect example. When newbies can't be bothered to read the rules and get reported by other regular members (like it was the case here), there is a need of action (like it was the case here). The most important point here is to surprise the culprit(s) so they do either care or ask themselves why they got such a punishment.

Sebastianos leaving: some people do have a life outside internet. And everyone knows that RL life is a thousand more important life than the internet. I myself pondered to quit AB (and the troubleshooting forum moderation) several times this year only because I had no time to really do my job... Yet, I'm still here and I'm beginning to have more and more time to give back to the site. I'm happy I didn't quite yet, but if something RL would happen and I would need to simply quit then I would without hesitating.

That's what life is all about.

I havent noticed any degradation in the content found on the forum. It's still all good and a fun place to be. The only incidents I am aware of was Punch's rather distasteful Christmas joke but that in itself was not that offensive just inconsiderate.

Edit: Danny's n00b bashing was a bad representation of the overall community and the guy didn't deserve such treatment but I don't think that incident was anything major. Danny overreacted slightly but he's allowed to.. he's such a hard worker most of the time :ok:

The "Doom of Abandonia" is possibly the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while. I personally think Abandonian Forums are doing fine, and everyone needs to learn about new things. Nothing is as always, the forums are always in change just like the life outside, people come and people go, and here it's the same.
