Lots of demo/shareware versions to be found of this one. 's Not what we're looking for, though, I presume, but only the full version.

I have the demo on my computer, but would love to be able to download the full game if you made it available. :)

That is fantastic - the shareware version was awesome, and I would have liked the full version but they were charging some extortionate sum for it. Neato!

Of course, it would take about a year to complete on a modern PC...

Yep, the price was terrible for a shareware game. Nevertheless, I always wanted to buy it once I'd get a real job. Now when I've finally got one, the company has gone inactive. :/

Oh, well.. now I can save my pennies for some other shareware goodie.

Oh yeah. I played the shareware when I was really young. The way it kind of took over your PC was cool, even though it did freak my parents out. The way that you played in your HD was great. Though with today's cavernous hard drive it would take my entire natural lifetime to complete.

Why does that thingy say "Warez" .....?

Eagle of Fire
16-02-2006, 08:55 PM
Because this game been given the status "Abandonware" since very little time. Before that, you had to buy it from some site at a very ridiculous price.

Man, I bought this game way back in '94 (or, so my dad did, I was quite young then...) and I just remembered I still had it. Being a bit nostalgic, I tried to install it from the disk again... it has this RETARDED copy protection thing where if it's installed on a previous hard drive it cannot be installed on another one, and unfortunately the old 486 I used to have this game on is well, long gone (I think).

I could upload the disk on yousendit or something, but somehow I doubt people would find use for it unless someone manages to find a way around this copy protection. The version's also hella old. Let me know though.

Yay first post!
Wow what happened and why is it talking so long to come on the site? O_o

Btw, I love this game and I have the full version, but yeah the floppy has copy protection and if I try to copy everything off of it onto my HD the installer doesn't work anymore. :/
Plus, it only allows you to install on one computer. These guys did NOT want their game to be pirated. Ideas?

Eagle of Fire
24-04-2006, 01:07 PM
At the very worse, copy the floppy as an ISO and send it to us with all the infos you can spare. The label of the floppy is one of those infos which could be important.

I don't beleives that it can't be cracked in a way or another. I always did find in my young days to pass copy protection, and this game is very old... I'm willing myself to give it a try.

ISO? EoF...

IMG, rather. You can use something like WinImage to read and write floppy images.

Neryam
24-04-2006, 01:38 PM
Hmm, okay I will try WinImage and will put the image on my site. 200kb limit here..

The Fifth Horseman

Actually, you can put it up on www.rapidshare.de or www.megaupload.com .

Neryam
24-04-2006, 01:59 PM
Alright, I wasn't sure which format to save the image, but Rapidshare told me that there was already a duplicate file with a different name when I tried to upload the .vfd xD so here is the .IMA.
http://rapidshare.de/files/18816876/ispace.IMA.html

Neryam
25-04-2006, 02:41 AM
No that's the image of inner space I uploaded. :P I have a .vfd too but rapidshare says its the same as the .ima.

Ahh I forgot to give you all the info sry..
There was a sticker on the disk with 19762 handwritten on it. No idea what its for. Label says "To install, run A:/install.exe" and "Operation: Inner Space" with all that copyright stuff.

The installer installs a few files into C:/WINDOWS.. Config files and stuff. What else.. After I reinstalled, the installer had modified/created a file called "secure". ONLY this file. All the other files have not been modified since like 1996. :P

By the way, I uninstalled Inner Space first before making the image so the image is of a "Valid Install" disk ready for a clean new install.

This is not the point. I am pretty sure that MDK have a DOS version, the real reason why we have the Windows version is because it is easier for those who don't know how to use DOS to make it work on their system.

On the other hand, I know Inner Space a lot, I played with it a lot in the past. It's one of the most obvious Windows only game I know.

Just play it, you will understand...

So what? I say put it up. It was a great game.

Nowhere does Abandonia say "Sportin DOS only games." I know it's a slippery slope...Oh I don't know. I think I say let it be hosted because I want to download and play it. I mean, Abandonia isn't hosting roms of Amiga games here. Although...no scratch that idea.

I'm just going to go to bed now before I have any more bright ideas.

No news from eMule nor Bittorrent.

Anyone has a valid link for this game?

Will this game work in Windows 98 / VMWare?

Any advice about similar games? :sos:

I'm pretty sure that although the site is still up for some reason, the game is no longer being sold. I ordered the add-ons a couple years ago and have yet to receive them, and any emails to the company bounce. I've emailed the designer/programmer/artist via his personal email about any chance of it being released as freeware and I'll let you guys know if he gives me a reply, but for now, the rapidshare link is dead and I think we'd all appreciate a more stable host. :)

Tycoon
27-12-2006, 12:41 AM
I remember writing to SDI about two years ago, asking some questions about Inner Space and they gave me a prompt reply at the time. So I naturally found the comments made by BugMeNot quite interesting.

I thought I'd plug an email to their sales department asking if the game was still available and within 45 minutes, I got a reply saying they still sell it. It is not likely to be an automated reply, because it contained some minor syntax errors, not to mention that it sounded much too personal for an automated template. Clearly there was no email bounce though.

For now anyway, the conclusion is inescapable. This game is simply not abandonware, as much as we all wish it was :) I don't know how much hope there is that the author will release it as freeware either. Even if he wanted to, sometimes authors have made previous agreements with publishers in this kind of situation that prohibits them for doing so. It all sounds rather dismal to me.

By the way BugMeNot, the site states that it's not possible for them to sell the add-ons alone, you have to buy the full game from them too. That might explain why you had trouble receiving the add-ons you ordered :)

Zup
31-12-2006, 01:18 PM
It seems they made changes to their web, so it might be still supported (although they claim that it's the oldest game still supported, they haven't released any new version in agest).

For those interested in a "good" version, the ISO version that can be found out there works with DOSBox 0.65 and Windows 3.11 for Workgroups, but it doesn't work with XP SP2 (at least, it doesn't work for me). I don't know if it works with 95, 98, 2000 or if it can work inside a virtual machine.

Some things that may help you...

CRCs of the "working files"
----------------------------------
ISPACE.bin 4CDCD0CF
ISPACE.cue C68A30DC

- MD5 hashes:
-------------------
449a02668fae485c879cff59af372140 *ISPACE.bin
09a86c760d8aabcbc52d4042cf43a966 *ISPACE.cue

(CRCs and MD5s generated with RapidCRC)

I guess it could help you to locate a working copy of the files.

P.S.: I'm going to order the game... to see it they're still in bussiness and get a licensed copy...

<------------------------------------------------------------------------>

EDIT: (I hope) I've bought the complete set (Inner Space, ship factory, sound & voice effects, military ships and nation ships). They've added PayPal, so I guess they're alive. In a month we'll know if they're still in bussiness or not.

What is the Warn thing displayed below my member #?

Today, I've received two e-mails from SDI, one containing the game and the other containing the Add-Ons.

So definitely, they're still in bussiness.

[EDIT] Today, I've received the physical package via mail. It has appeared 10 days after the purchase, although their web says it could take 3 weeks...

The floppy version and the mail version works ok with XP SP2. I guess the CD version has some compatibility issue, but no need to work on it now.

Sorry about the confusion Barbosa :)

The point that was being made is that Inner Space is still being sold, this has been confirmed by people who have brought it recently. Therefore, the game itself cannot be considered abandonware and it would be completely illegal to distribute it.

That's pretty much the end of the trail in terms of this website. The only recourse at this stage is to actually buy it.
