Gunzonline.com
Potential. That’s what Gunz has - lots and lots of potential. This fabulous game is still in international beta and therefore many things are likely to change before this game is declared ‘’finished’’. The game is already great heaps of fun, the only problem I have with it is server reliability which is promised to improve as time passes.
Gunz is considered by many, including myself, to be one of the best free MMOGs around. An MMOG is a massively multiplayer online game. This basically means it’s a large multiplayer experience shared with many others scattered around the globe.
Graphics-wise. Gunz is very pleasing, considering the small file size and lack of cost. You can see exactly what I mean at the top right of this page. The menus are easy enough to navigate and the player's HUD is very simple.
This game, like most MMOGs, has a level system. However, unlike most MMOGs, Gunz makes everything much fairer by splitting the players into channels. Low level characters square off against fellow new people in channels for people new to the game. The more experienced gamers are placed in a separate channel. This level organization is a very good idea in my opinion as there are always a few people who try to take advantage of new players. If you do in fact want to face off against somebody outside your level bracket this is very possible, simply move to one of three ‘Free Channels’ which allow players of any level to enter.
The gameplay itself is unique. Most MMOGs have rather tedious gameplay: kill, steal and repeat. Gunz however is much less like other games in its genre when it comes to gameplay. You log in to the client, find a channel and then a server. Servers contain a maximum of 16 players and can run varying game modes - Deathmatch & Gladiator (Melee Weapons Only) seem to be most popular. Basically you’re given your gun and sword and must find and fight any hostiles. Each kill is worth a set number of experience points (XP) depending on the opposing player’s level. Your goal is to earn XP so you can gain levels and "bounty" (the in-game currency). As you gain more bounty you can buy better guns, armour etc. Combat is very engaging. Everything is done with the click and movement of a mouse. Simple. Left click attacks/shoots, while shift blocks if you are using your melee weapon. What makes combat so fun is the slick animations and the ability to dive around your screen dodging bullets, you have the ability to "charge" at enemies as well as running up walls and flipping around. Your fighter is very acrobatic; this is what in my opinion makes Gunz such a fun and engaging experience.

Does Kingdom of Loathing count?
Check out: http://www.onrpg.com/ for a massive list of Free MMORPG's.
My personal favorite is Anarchy Online (http://anarchyonline.com) allthough I stopped playing the free edition and upgraded to Shadowlands three weeks ago...
I'm also following the developlemnt of Planeshift (http://www.planeshift.it/). It's a long way from maturity yey, but it seems very promising allready and is more of less playable even in version 0.3!

Yes, Planeshift looks good, but probably it will takes a long time before it will become fully functional... At the moment it's more like a "3D chat"... I hope they'll speed up the development!

Well KoL is the only one I've played.
KalOnline has an English version too. Translations are a bit off sometimes but are usually quite good. Some buttons display as Korean at times but you can easily guess what's what. I haven't played in ages and that problem might have already been fixed. It's a good game if not a little bit boring after a while.
Worth a try, graphics are great and was a muck load of fun at first.
@AnarchyOnline - I tried it for a while and got really bored after the first few hours. It's really grind based and all of the cool features I heard about (purchasing houses, bikes etc) are only for thoose that dedicated their lives to the game. I think I got to level 5 before becoming overly bored.

Yes, I have Anarchy Online also (the free version) and I must agree with magic, the crafting system was a little....weird but it was rather neat, but I just never really cared too much for it, but I must say, Anarchy Online, so far, has the best GM's I've seen in a game, they are verry helpful and friendly, and normally get to you tithin 5 minutes after you ask for help.
I'l check out KoL, I think I've heard about it somewhere before...its the one with stick figures right? Looks rather funny ^_^
Ohhh, Kal Online is rather fun! ^_^

Yes, do check out Kingdom of Loathing. I haven't played it in a while, but I used to be super addicted to it. Great time-waster but the amount of daily credits kept the amount of time I spent on it down to an almost healthy amount. I love the weird humour on that one. Iirc, I'm a level nine Accordion Thief, but I can't remember what I'm called right now.

A Tale In The Desert.
It's free to download, but not to play, there's no fighting, but I simply love the game, it's fantastic, with a great community, and a wealth of options.

For the free one...
Guild Wars, you have to buy it, but it's absolutly free to play, although you can pay for extra items and etc. in the game, it's incredibly enjoyable all around.

Ultima Online - Free shards
Find version of UO on the internet, download (must have dsl/cable)
Download Uogateway
play on free shards. Very easy and fun, don't need a top of the line computer. I used to play with my dell 400 10hd 256k ram.

It has hooked my interest...
Along those kind of multiplayer community sims, I'm kinda interested to see where they go with Animal Crossing DS online...
Outpost is unique. Got boring due to a severe lack of players. Was quite amusing for a while. Unfortunately ALL servers are offline for now.

They've got some other nice looking F2P MMORPGs though. 'Gates of Heavens' looks interesting... (but, seeing as how I've still got 2 AO Shadowlands-keys, I'm gonna stick with that one for yet another while :))

Can you you give me a link to the UO download? If it's legal, of course (don't want warez links on forum).

It's actually not legal, neither are the Shards.
The shards give you access to the full game, but on a server maintained by people who found a way to create a indepent server. And UO of course, is still on sale, so I hardly think it'd be legal to download it online.
Not only that, but UO isn't that great anway. :bleh:

My favourite is KnightOnlineworld... now named Knight Empire. Free to play, but with option for membership and powerup purchase. Also with new servers now... keep adding new servers. Have some bugs tho, but still worth it and good graphics too.

Don't flame me, but I've played RuneScape on and off since 2001, sadly the community spirit is gradually decreasing, and people are using holiday items as a business, so no recommendation there.
KalOnline is a fairly good game, but it's too hard to get around, the map is huge! It also has the teachers problem, people are misusing the feature to earn money, then not helping new players at all. The graphics are amazing, but with them comes lag in more populated areas. KalOnline is full of advertising and scamming, so I don't like it either.
I always intended to get into a few more games, but failed miserably. Just remember, whatever you do, don't play Outwar!

No Flame from me Lime... I did try the FLYFF and not my taste... they tell me there are quests but can't find the person giving them LOL and it's a bit too anime for me as I'm of the old school RPGing... (even paperbased) I do prefer the good old fantasy theme with dragons and such. I'll just stick with Knightonline for a while until something else pops up (or I get too busy with Neverwinter Nights :) )

If anybody is into community-based mmorpgs (total wars, advanced clan system, etc) and is bored with stupid hack and slash type, I recommend Fung Wan Online: http://fwo.com.my/
It is really addictive, though some may say the graphics are somewhat outdated (3D - but I heard opinions that L2 is better than FWO just because of the graphics, sic!).
Should any of U need some help with the installation or the game itself, I am here.
Regards.

Did anyone try awplanet? It is a game where you run away from white chickens. I dont want to talk about the black ones... It took me ages to kill my first deer with the help of a friend. I roleplayed to be a fisherman. Try it and it will stick.
