Ooh, I remember this, quite awhile ago we had a really bad computer, so after awhile my dad got us a new one, and he got this game for me, it's still one of the best strategy games I've ever played.

I do believe my word variation was terrible back then.

Oh yeah really great site, love the comics, and the flash movies, they are awsome all 4 parts, although part 4 was different with the new black mage and all. It inspired me to try Final Fantasy 1 and 4-7, although I still have a long way to go before I'm done. Gotta love fighter in that series.

Uh yeah 8-Bit Theater good stuff.

EDLglide - well dunno if you look at the underdogs.org you will find in their latest update a download link to alpha C alien crossfire - i just downloaded the thing myself in the last few days (doesnt have the movies) but it is fully functioning regardless but comes in at 135MB

Now for the main thrust of my original post was the request for the trading game 1602 AD ?

Is that still being sold or is it abandonware and able to be put onto abandonia for us to download ?

Still a great site this is and keep up the good work.

This is a touch off topic but how did you get it to work?

I have the original Alpha Centauri yet it doesn't want to work when I extract it!

Anyways, 1602AD is a trading/strategy game. It has 2 types of gameplay if I remember correctly from the demo.

You could play a trading part of the game or a conquest part of the game. I think there may also have been like a mélange of the two at some point.

It's a good game, though

Keep em coming!

I hope we don't get some smart arse registering and posting something along the lines of

As soon as I posted the thread I got visions of somebody doing that and if somebody else had started the thread I probably would have registered a new account just to do that.. I am such an arsehole.

Mine was actually under the guest name Romulus, not Reamus, and it was complaining about an error that occured when I tried to play LoK3: Malcolm's Revenge. Apparently there was a crucial file missing, causing the game to crash near the end (pissed me off so much!)

I know it's just Remus. My brother and I came up with Romulus and Reamus when playing lazer tag on teams about ten years ago. I was young and didn't really know how to spell it, and Reamus looked more correct to me than Remus. I've just stuck with it, because I like the way it looks.

Also, if pronounced in Latin, Reamus is not "Ray-moose", it would be "Ray-Ah-Moose", and I kind of like the sound of that better.

LQ comes from the place we would play lazer tag at...Lazer Quest

You can download it from HOTU. Before anyone starts screaming warez, I'd like to say that I doubt it. If I'm not mistaken they had taken it down for quite a while because they were asked not to host it, but since it's back up I'm assuming they have permission.*

HOTU will remove a game and put a link to where you an buy it if asked by a company, so in my mind theyr not really warez. Ya the alien crossfire doesn't really add much...I wentout and bought the game and expansion back when it was new...never really cared for it too much, personally, I found civilization to be better, more fun.

Beef's first post

hmm. i have original copies of the manuals for NetStorm, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and probably those for Civ 1/2, GTA and maybe Colonization. all but one of them are at my parents' house though, so it might be a while before i have chance to scan any of them (plus i'll have to remember...) but i'll give it a try. I also had a CD at one time with a few things on it including Populous and Space Hulk, which may or may not have had manuals on it. Ah, just found that CD next to my PC - it features Yeager's Air Combat, Space Hulk, Hong Kong Mah-Jong Pro, Wing Commander Academy, The Savage Empire, Seven Cities of Gold, Populous II, Ultima VII, Shadow Caster and UU, but no manuals as far as I can see sad.gif

BTW if any of these EA games are now abandonware and not already featured (at least 3 of them are good...), let me know if I can do anything to help you get hold of them!

/resists temptation to install Populous II for fear of not doing any uni work for a month...

I play CS still, in LAN's and whatever, that's probably the only reason I have it installed.
Noticed someone criticizing Ultima Online...** Gosh I spent last year playing it, still do, but kinda developed a hate towards the game.. It sucks when everybody forgets it's a game.

Games I was never too fond of:
All UFO's other than the first (love the first one, fanatic about it)
Civilization 3
Halo (all of them)
Max Payne (same as above)

Oh.. and say hello to the newbie (that would be me)* :D

Sucks, doesn't it?

Here (http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=145&st=120) is my first ever post on this board. You'll have to scroll down a little and notice that I wasn't registered yet.

After reading this lengthy thread, I have to admit I have no clue what some people around here says about UFO being hard. It's only hard if you fire yourself in the feet!

Just never overload your men, always keep time for a snapshot + kneeling everyturn and never rush your men into battle. I should say that deploying your men as a team which try to cover eachother while being spread enough to avoid heavy grenade casualty is good also, but really obvious IMHO.

As for the saving every turn thingy, it's about the lamest thing I ever heard! I agree saving everytime you get in and out of a mission is advisable (because even with the right hardware back in the old days the game was not 100% stable), but saving every turn and reloading only to get 0 death is exactly the same as cheating.

I also have to say that playing Xcom: Apocalypse under XP is not easy, but can be done. If you want I can dig up some old links on walkthru on how to do it. I played that game for years, and I have XP.

Edit: What's wrong about UO? If it wasn't because I don't have that kind of cash to waste on multiplayer games, I would still be playing it...

Tough now that I'm thinking about it, I would rather waste money on Laser Squad Nemesis instead. :D

I really dislike many games many people seem to love

The Sims series
My own life is much more exciting then these games. Maybe other people just live boring lives?

Halo series
Very average First Person Shooters. Not really that bad, until you start counting all the crazy people who say its the greatest game in the world.

Homeworld series
Pretty to look at, but very simple and easy to beat, with not alot of tactical choices. Although some mods that change the gameplay make it much more fun.

Grand Theft Auto series
The first ones were kind of boring, but I guess fun(If you like running over people)
The 3rd one and its expansion were just horribly boring to me. I prefer some level of realism in games like this. The game physics , bad story and repetitive nature of the game made me hate it.

Most of the Final Fantasy series
The first few were fine as dungeon crawler types, but after VI there is very little redeeming quality left in the series to me.

Most of the Command and Conquer series
The games are essentially exactly the same as time goes on. So very little innovation over so long, especially when the gameplay is so simple, is a bad thing. And Generals was just plain horrible.

Doom 3
Boring, easy, not scary.

Half Life 2
Other then my eternal hatred against Steam, Half Life 2 is okay as a first person shooter. All the people saying its so great make me dislike it strongly though.

Morrowind
Shallow NPCs, shallow quests, shallow game world in general. Severely limited character interaction, almost non existant dialogue, weak combat system. Some of the mods and the last expansion fix some aspects, but they don't fix enough for me to like it.

Neverwinter Nights
Very boring, VERY ugly (How do you make something so ugly with modern graphics? I still play Wasteland and think it looks fine!) the singleplayer is very bad, being almost entirely hack and slash. Thats a problem with alot of D20 games I've found. Just wish this game had more depth, but it didn't. Some of the user created mods are very good, but looking at the game for too long hurt my eyes.

System Shock 1
I played System Shock 2 before System Shock 1. Everything good about it is better in System Shock 2. Since System Shock 2 is so much better, I just could never make myself like System Shock 1 very much, which is odd, because I love System Shock 2 so much.

Xcom Apocalypse
Maybe I'm just afraid of change? To me, the best Xcom game is the first one. Apocalypse just kind of annoyed me with all these little bugs and problems.

Arcanum
I love the boys at Troika, I love indepth Role playing games, I love the steampunk setting. What I don't love is a half finished buggy and imbalanced combat system and so many dungeons that require its use. Please forgive me Troika! I'm sorry!

Wow, this is a really negative first post.

Let me bring it up some by saying I love Sacrafice too! Surprised to see so many people here like it, I thought most people didn't.

Still a pretty negative first post.

Sadly I havn't gotten much more positive since then.

I found this game quite annoying actually. It took me about 15 minutes to get out of my cell at the start, and when you go to walk somewhere it is delayed which caused more problems trying to get out of my cell at the start and then running away from the guards. So I gave up and moved onto 5 Days A Stranger and then 7 Days A Skeptic, which are very very good point and click adventure games you should put them up on the site so everyone can play them they deffinently worth it although they are quite short.

P.S. I may be getting off the topic a bit, but I needed an excuse to to bring up these two games I'm sorry. But I absolutly love them.

Well the board thinks this was my first post, but I'm almost positive it wasn't. The first post I remember posting was about 2 lines long and at the end I introduced myself. I have a feeling the thread was deleted.

Useless post reading back over it. It wasn't easy finding something useful to say in my first ever post in my first ever forum. This was about the Twinsens game, oh that gave gave me the shits.

My first post was a request for Life and Death 1 & 2 to be added to abandonia LOL
Later on, after plenty of hard work they where added to abandonia :P

Hey every one, i am new to the forum so this will be my first ever post.

The game i would like to see most on Abandonia is "Life and death 1" and the second Life and death if you can get it to work wallbash.gif

Life and death is a medical simulation where you are the surgeon \ doctor you get to operate on people but first you will need to find out whats wrong with them just like in real life, you have a number of tools to use like "X-ray" and "ultrasound".

Once you have found out what is worng you get to do the fun part 'operate' biggrin.gif
and it's not easy to do just like in real life you got to make sure they don't bleed to death or get infected, and al this is not easy although theres is a manual you can download.

A great game that will keep you busy for hours although it's not every one's cup of tea by the time you finished this you will have learned a lot and soon you will want more like me laughing.gif this is the only good abandon-ware game of this type i have found

So don't waste any time this is a great game that every one should play get it from www.underdogs.org

Note:Make sure you get the file with the copy protection codes w00t.gif

Hello guys.

I am playing this game again after a long time and I am having a problem with the speed. If I play the game normaly then it is too quick, especialy the earth map and the battle map. Even with reducing the scroll speed to 1. If I use a program to reduce the speed of my pc (PIV 1.7) then I get weird pauses, like bumps in time where everything is frozen for a second or two every few seconds. While the game is still playable it is very annoying and I would rather not have this problem.
Any ideas how to fix it?

And another question, back in 1992-3 (don't remember exactly anymore) I preordered the game for my Atari ST, only to cancel it a bit later cause I had some problems (RL). AFter that I never managed to see any mention of the game for the ST. Which feels a bit weird. Was it actualy ever released for it? (I got the PC version (3? floppies back in 1994)

I do not like doing the MC, it feels like cheating, though it isn't. I like the eh, hmm, I forgot what I was about to say wallbash.gif
