I had to reinstall Windows XP and after that I installed SP2 and al the available updates. Now I installed DOSBox and it gives me the following error, when I start it, in the usual Windows error windows: "Driver Component sizes mis-match. Retry to keep going. Cancel to exit."

It only has 2 buttons, Retry and Cancel. Of course, the retry button states the same error over and over again. The title bar of the window is "nVidia OpenGL driver".

Now what the hell has OpenGL to do with DOSBox, or with DOS in general???

Please help me!

You installed Service Pack 2? That the trouble. It's often incompatible with programs that ran like butter in earlier versions of Windows XP. You should better reinstall the Windows XP on your PC again and ONLY install Service Pack 1, if you consider to play old games with DosBox again. ;)
Sorry for the time and trouble that takes.

Service pack 2 fuckes up my msn  It always freezes... So I uninstalled it. But I haven't tried DOSgames on that computer, I use the other one for games...

I tried but it still doesn't work. It can't be the Service Pack, it ran perfectly with it before. And I don't want to say where uninstaling it got me.

well by reading the dosbox official forums I noticed the following:

DOSBox 0.61 uses OpenGl wether you enabled it in the configfile or not.

Many crashes on startup are caused by that. Either get new videocard drivers (Ones from microsoft are NOT okay as they come without OpenGL (as it's a thread to directX) or use 0.60

Thanks Data, that seems to be the problem. I installed the latest video drivers and it runs now. I didn't had those installed coz' FarCry won't run with them (I hate all this drivers). But I prefer DOSBox.

I have a question. It it common for games to jump a lot in Dosbox? Cause mine do and it gets very annoying. If no for the previous question what can I do to fix it, other than change the framerate and cpu cycles?

select overlay as output

open dosbox.conf (there is a link to it in the startmenu
look for output=surface
change it output=overlay
