WOW!!!!!! I remember playing this game over modem when I had my 486...... This game was soo fun when it came out (the multiplayer version). I remember playing this game and my parents nagging me to use the phone. Incredible! You guys are truly great for finding such a ol' school game!

Awesome! I asked for that game sometime ago in the request forum, but I thought it was still sold...

That's a very good game we have here. A very nice blend of strategy and action.

I remember playing Rescue Rangers in 1986 on my friend's mom's Apple 2. We had a Computer class in school where they really didn't care what we were doing as long as we were using computers for an hour or however long the class was and playing this game or Karateka were what pretty much all the kids were doing. Nobody knew where the original copy came from and none of the kids knew the keys to make tanks and stuff so it was pretty cool when one kid figured it out and beat the game.

I had lots of fun with this one.
I went on playing it for awhile, expected only 10 minutes or so after downloading, but I went a good 30 minutes or so.

I remember playing this on a friend's Apple years ago. It was so addictive I looked for a PC version a few years ago. It was just as fun as I remembered it. It's good that it's been put up on this site.

One issue: The original game (which I had on my Apple II) was Rescue Raiders, not Rescue Rangers. Man, I loved that game.

I found that itīs better and cheaper to got your coppter out of battle and only use it to superview how your tropps are doing. Any idea to how carry more missiles or to how get paradrops without lose the pilot?

Eagle of Fire

You can't carry more than 2 missiles, but your missiles tanks can fire one when the ennemy helicopter fly by.

For the men drop, you can take 5 on board at all time and drop them with the spacebar. Very important moves and strategies can be done this way.

And HOW i have to do to take the people on board?

Eagle of Fire

You land on the ground and you wait for them to run to the helicopter. They'll enter the helicopter by themselves up to 5 men.

I can't get past the registration screen cos the mouse doesn't work in the game......... HELP!

If you selected 'keyboard' as your input mode (when you first started the exe, it should have asked you some set up questions), then the mouse won't work. Once you have filled in the registration fields, press either ctrl-P or alt-P.

I found it unplayable in keyboard only mode, so I deleted the game and started again setting 'mouse' to my input mode. I really want to use the joystick mode (how I used to play on the old Apple IIe in Rescue Raiders), but the game doesn't appear to recognise my joystick (digital arcade stick) and there don't appear to be any settings from within the game. Perhaps I need to use an analogue joystick... If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please let me know.

Cheers,

Niki

Um, how do you do anything. And is this supposed to be just the trial version?

no, this is not the trial version, and if you read this post, you will learn to play [quote] If you selected 'keyboard' as your input mode (when you first started the exe, it should have asked you some set up questions), then the mouse won't work. Arghh, I love this game.
Was one of my all time favorites as a youngun, I remeber going on holiday once (and obviously not being able to play the game for a week), that I missed it so much I used to design convoys on paper to keep myself occupied (eg tank, tank, missile launcher, infantry, van, van.)
I cant believe it only got 4.
At least worth a 5. The gameplay is such a unique mix of strategy and arcade.

NB. The Manual has one of the best story lines I think I have ever read in a game, it's about an 'ol tanker' veteran who writes an entry in his diary before each battle, giving you mission tips and stuff. But the way he becomes dissolusioned with war as the missions progress is fantasic. I will try track down my copy of the maunal, and scan it, so it can be put on the site. It is well worth the read.

Tips:
Try play the game on armogeddon skill level. The game is much harder but you start with cooler weapons (such as unguided rockets and napalm bombs)

If you play multiplayer, always go green if you can as the green helicopter is slightly faster than the grey one.

To kill the enemy coppter, dont use missiles, use bombs. Fly above it and drop a bomb on it. Use your missiles for enemy tanks and bunkers (fly close to the ground and fire them).

you also can use engineers to refuel / reload so you don't have to go clear back to base at a critical point.

Has anyone played this game over a LAN.
I actually own a purchased copy of it and just downloaded it as well.

The docs discuss playing over a modem - haven't tried over a LAN yet - anyone had success with that?

Thanks,
Kurt

PS: This was one of my old favorites on the Apple II. :ok:

I try to run it in XP and I get the monitor screen in a continuous scroll. How do I fix it so the
screen is stationary?

It seems you are trying to run the game in plain Windows. I strongly suggest you use DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net) instead.
You can download it here (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1).

Some people truly are stupid... how many times the_fifth_horseman have to type "use dosbox!" :omg2:
Its free to download and the link is listed all over this site!

Here are the steps:
1) Download Armor Alley, unzip it, and extract to say "C:\Games\"
In this case a folder named AA will automatically me made in ^ folder for Armor Alley, but for other games you might have to extract to say "C:\games\simpsons" or all the spare files will make a mess of your games folder.
2) Download dosbox, unzip, and extract it to say "C:\Programs\Dosbox"
3) Run dosbox
4) Type: mount c c:\games\ or c:\games\aa (if you're only playing 1 game today)
5) Hit enter
6) Type: c:
7) Hit enter
8) You'll see z:\ has changed to c:\ (but it is really c:\games or c:\games\aa depended on what you did in step 4)
9)Type in dir or dir/p to split the info is too long. If you're in c:\games you'll see folders... one of which is aa, so type in "cd aa" and press enter to enter that folder. If you are already in c:\games\aa when you type dir you will see the files in that folder... one of which is aa.exe ... so just type in aa and press enter, and the game will run.
10)To go into full-screen mode hit alt+enter
11) The rest you can figure out yourself

The game is meant to be played with mouse.. so make sure it works.. especially for selecting options on the top of the screen (using alt is annoying)... Though with keyboard its probably even easier to control the helicopter. And it has good gun/explosion sound effects (not pc speaker), though no music. The game is full-version but its a little confusing at first to get out of trial mode and 'register' it. You don't really register... <_<

The controls are like this:
"Action" controls:
Mouse/arrow-keys moves the helicopter. Click rotates the helicopter, but you can turn auto-turn on. Z releases bombs (good for everything but especially opponent helicopter). X releases missles (good for tanks). Shift shoots vulcan/machine-gun (good for infantry, vans, but also helicopter & tanks). Space releases infantry inside helicopter. If in the air they will parachute (though that is dangerous). *To pick up infantry you land in front of them and they climb inside. There is a limit to 5 men inside. If you pick up engineers they lose their equipment and become regular infantry.* To suicide-attack your helicopter press enter, the pilot will parachute out while the helicopter continues out of control... hopefully into a tank! :titan:

"General" controls:
T = tank
I = infantry
E = engineer
V = van
M = ground-to-air mobile missle-launcher
H = spare helicopter (expensive and not always available)

You can read the rest in the in-game help...

IMPORTANT: If you cannot follow these directions to run dosbox... then you are not meant to go near a computer. :wallbash: Throw it out the window (don't kill anyone if you live upstairs) , and go read some Playboy's. :tease:

:sos: Hi all! I have a little problem :( I can't click the button "Personalize". How the mouse works? And how can I "click" without mouse? 10x in advance!

How the mouse works? [/b]
By detecting two-dimensional motion relative to its supporting surface.
But I don't think that was what you were asking about?

And how can I "click" without mouse?[/b]
You. Can't.
