Wow, nice =D
I just wish I had enough patience for text games.
I used to play MUDS back in the BBS days but now I have gotten old and lazy.
In fact I have hardly ever even read any books fully. I think The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings may be the only books I read fully and enjoyed (and wasnt forced to by school)

Really? Actually there are LOTS of text games based on LotR books......I'll add some to the list, and if you want to collaborate....just call for them.

I will start working on reviews for The Kobayashi Alternative and Final Contact. May as well get the whole trilogy up. :)
I may try to do Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy later on unless someone else wants to tackle it.

Guybrush? What kind of name is that? Heh, funny pirates.
Anyway, I would do a review for these but I am VERY busy so I'll just support you for now. :ok:

I can upload Softporn, but I can't write a review since I haven't played it and don't plan to.

And then let me say.....
Are you talking about the predeccor for Leisure Suit Larry? Softporn Adventure? Which is a textbased adventure.... or are you talking about Hentai games, and Stip-poker?

Text adventures are nice, but how about a text RPG? I have an old game called Zyll dated 1984, released by IBM for the original PC. I had no way of even running it until recently because it's on a 5.25" 360K floppy disk, but I've got a drive now. It plays a neat little tune through the PC speaker when you start it (though it doesn't seem to play properly in XP), and then asks which type of game you want to play. This is as far as I can get as I can't seem to get it to accept any input. I may try it out in DOSbox later. :)

And about Softporn adventure.....if the contents don't offend anyone, I'll put it in the list.

I was looking around today and came across a program called WinFrotz which allows you to run Infocom text adventures natively in Windows. You can find it here: http://www.cris.com/%7ETwist/WinFrotz/ :)

I have a game called "Arthur the Quest for Excalibur". It's a decent game not too bad, you can even look up hints through a crystal as you play. :D
But it comes with some graphics, so if you're looking for text based games without graphics then I don't know why I bothered mentioning this.
I also have another game called "Gnome Ranger". But I didn't like that game one bit. Everytime a word starting with n comes up, like north, it would spell it with a g in the front, such as gnorth, this got very very annoying after a while so I stopped playing it. It also comes with some graphics.

I'm sorry about long absence, due mainly to my provider that is really making me mad.....
@Guybrush: I've also heard of that program, and make sure it'll be available when the text section comes.
@Wendy: A review from such an expert would be gratefully appreciated!
@Iron Scarecrow: As said here:
I'll consider in this section games that require entire control from keyboard through typing, and NO graphics except some border-line games like the ones made by Magnetic Scrolls which features only seldom pictures representing some places-without interacting with them.
Text Games can feature graphics, until you can't interact with them - in case you can, games slide in the Graphic Adventure genre.
Iron_Scarecrow
14-09-2004, 04:15 AM
Well after going back and playing the games again I'm pretty sure they fall into this category. You do everything by typing and a basic picture comes up of where you are. You can't do anything with the pictures they're just there for show.
TheVoid
14-09-2004, 08:33 AM
So....will you send me, review and take some screenshots of the games? At least the first, seeing you don't really like the second....and we want games people will enjoy playing, don't we? :sneaky:
TheVoid
14-09-2004, 01:27 PM
Ok, I put this as a challenge. I believe it possible to make the Text section enter in Abandonia's ranks by the autumnal equinox, 23 September. Of course it'll be punctually updated, but I think of good omen to make it rise under the goodwill of the stars. :P
I'm expecting your works! :)
Ababo
15-09-2004, 11:46 AM
I have a nice little package called the "Infocom Treasure Chest". It has 20 games in total, including:
Zork 1-3
Beyond Zork
Zork Zero
The Lurking Horror
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Planetfall
The Witness
And a whole bunch more! What's more, it even works fine under Windows XP! (Although Dosbox gives you a better layout). Would anyone be interested in me sending it in? I'm pretty sure it's still abandonware.
;)
TheVoid
15-09-2004, 11:51 AM
Thank you very much for your offer, Ababo, but I already have many of those games.....we've plenty of games, we are in disperate search of REVIEWERS!!!! If you want to help (and maybe earn a VIP pass?) you can write some reviews for games on the list in page 1, or for others not present there, like some you mentioned above.
Let me know! ;)
Iron_Scarecrow
15-09-2004, 11:51 AM
Well the thing is I'm not the best at writing reviews, I'm only just passing english, oh I had this really gay english test today, I'll be lucky if I passed. Also i wouldn't have a clue how to take screenshots. Also other people may like the gnome game its just that I don't. Also you could just download them yourself, Arthur is only 1 MB and the gnome game is only 400 KB and I'm sure you could write a better review than me anyday, and I'm assuming you know how to take screenshots.
TheVoid
15-09-2004, 11:59 AM
Well, I don't expect a review to be a perfect gem of literature....You only have to describe briefly the game, what's your role and your objective, and some of your impressions about it; at the end, the mark you feel to award to the game (1-2-3-4-5, from worst to best). Just tell people it's a game that deserves being played, if you enjoyed doing that. I can eventually correct mistakes.
C'mon, don't be shy!!! :bleh:
How to take screenshots:while in DosBox, press Ctrl+F5, and the progrAM WIll store the snap in his proper folder in DosBox directory (e.g.C:\Program files\DosBox\snaps)
Iron_Scarecrow
15-09-2004, 12:12 PM
Well I'll try my best. And I can't find my DosBox directory, I'm starting to think I don't even have DosBox. I'll keep searching.
Iron_Scarecrow
15-09-2004, 12:25 PM
Question: Do you have to download DosBox or does it usually come with everything?
Cause if you have to download it then I don't have it. And that would mean I been playing all these games without it.
TheVoid
15-09-2004, 02:19 PM
DosBox is a program downloadable in the Internet which allows you to emulate pure DOS, which is required for many old games to run properly.....Don't bother with the screenshots, I'll do them by myself. Just concentrate on the review.
Iron_Scarecrow
16-09-2004, 05:09 AM
Ok. I have DosBox now, but some of my games dont run very smoothly. Is there a way to fix this. If there is try to put it in English, I'm not very good with all this computer jargon.

I don't mean to be rude or anything but the word is arse not ass.
TheVoid
17-09-2004, 02:16 PM
Arse is english slang.
Ass is american slang - therefore more utilized.
But you're free to call it in your favourite way. It's always a behind.
Iron_Scarecrow
17-09-2004, 02:31 PM
Actually arse is not slang it's a proper word.
Guybrush
17-09-2004, 05:51 PM
Actually ass is a real word also; it's an animal by the proper defination. However the way they are both used today could be considered vulgar slang. Regardless, the word arse is just not used in this country. At least not by anyone I know. :)
Havell
17-09-2004, 05:56 PM
Where did you get that quote from? Because "arse" came first but the Americans started saying "ass" because they couldn't be bothered to say the "r". Therefore ass is a varient of arse, not the other way round. And yes, if you look ass up in an (English) dictionary it will say that is means a donkey and it was a insult before it came to mean bottom because it is a very stupid, smelly kind of donkey.
Iron_Scarecrow is right.
Guybrush
17-09-2004, 06:01 PM
I got the quote from Dictionary.com but later I found another dictionary that said it was not slang; so I removed it. I'll accept that arse is a real word but what difference does it make? People in this country say ass, and they will continue to do so so you can't say it's not correct. :)
Anyway this is all getting ridiculously off topic.
TheVoid
17-09-2004, 06:12 PM
