Something is wrong I think. got fatal error when trying to fire it up
Tom Henrik

Did you extract it on c:\ ?
Yeah I did all that stuff. im sure it was on the right spot since it was in C:\
said fatal error when i started it up then just a large amount of computer talk.
DOH!!!
I need to remember that any files not part of the program will screw things up in DOS! god i feel like an idoit now.. i had the install files in the directory and they messed with things...... it works now

The game has an error just because there were the install files in the same directory as the game among the game files? :blink: Now that's weird. Never was any game I played before such jealous of it's files... ;)

Hmm, the game runs well, but I have some problems.
1. After a while playing, the game seems to freeze. The Ennemies are still moving, but the game doesn't react to any commands anymore. This is quite bad, because it takes long always restarting the game.
2. I don`t know how to proceed on level 1. After a deactivating several forcefields and bypassing some infra red detectors, you get to a lift secured by a shielded camera and a force field. I mangaged to find the reactor of the camera, but how can I deactivate the forcefield?
3. the Help file doesn't seem to work, when I press F3 , I only get a black screen.

A: This can sometimes happen if you press on the keyboard like a maniac. Rapidly clicking the keys can freeze the game. Just save often.

A: If you could give me a snapshot, I can tell you exactly what to do. That description fits a lot of places in the game ;)
3. the Help file doesn't seem to work, when I press F3 , I only get a black screen.
A: You really don't need to press F3.
Hope this helps you.

well, I got past that point, but now I have some problems (again) :rolleyes:
1. How can I change my weapon? I found a weapon lying on a table, but iÍ can't pick it up, when I select it with "s" and press "u" (use), I just stays there, so I don't know how to pick it up nor how to change weapons.
2. Since there are no videos in the game, I don't know what I have to do... :(

A: By clicking W you can go through your weapons, look at the weapon icon to choose your way of destruction.

Go through you inventory with I and O and use those objects with U. One of the items will look like a horisontally black calculator. This is you com-link, and it will give you advice througout the game.
Ask if you run into more problems :D

Another problem I ran into:
When I try to use pda, when a new message came it, it shows me using it for a sec, and that's it. I never actually see the message.

it's a game like doom. don't need much to think about just walk arround flip all the switches, save often and kill & destroy everything in sight. :ph34r:

No video?
I can't see any special videos in this game, just the regular game play graphics. By that, I mean the opening video or any cutscene or any communications do not display properly. To me, this was a major highlight of the game. Is this just something Dosbox users are stuck with or is it my setup?

Usually movies are removed to save space and to speed up downloads, unless they are vital to the game.

Thanks, but I have the original game on CD. That's why I kinda know what I'm missing.
Doesn't look like my problem is a widespread problem because I don't see any other related post... just curious, what settings are others using with Dosbox? (I have a 3 GHz pc - Hewitt Packard, 512 MB ram, NVIDIA 5200 graphics card... but no idea what to set Dosbox to so that I can see these cutscenes)
i think you should select lowres movies or so.

YES! Thanks a ton, Data. I forgot that Install.exe was also a setup program and changed the 16-bit color option. And here I was like a dumbass changing every D-Fend and Nvidia option I could and finding out how many ways I could screw up my PC.
Now I have that problem when he keeps spinning in circles and I have to shut down, but nevertheless, it's progress!
So let me get this straight: No Regret does or does not have movies. If so, why won't they run in a native DOS environment? I'm not talking about the crappy imitation DOS of 2000 forward, but the DOS of Windows 95.

Now I have it, but it doesnīt work!! When Iīm trying to start the install.exe or regret.exe, I get the message "Fatal Error 286.3330: General protection fault detected." Under it there are some infos like "PID=0001"and so on...
So can anybody help me? (And please donīt say Iīve to start the download again)

Did you play the game in DosBox? This is a useful program for playing old Dos-games. You can get it on this site. ;)

I tried it with VDM-Sound, which normally works better than Dosbox. In Dosbox Crusader isnīt getting started at all. All I see there is this lovely black screen...

BOTH Crusader games are EXCLUSIVELY DosBox games. You can only play them through either REAL DOS or through DosBox.

When I start Crusader in DosBox it crashes because of "Cache Override", actually DosBox said so... :wall:

New version, problem solved and another problem appeared... Neither install.exe nor regret.exe are working correct. When Iīm trying to execute install.exe then I see itīs "unable to open file h:\idata\fonts.dat" and if i execute regret.exe then the screen is scrolling down all the time with the words "fatal error 286....".
i thought you had to mount the dirs for crusader in a special way. Isn't this mentioned in the review or so ?
das M
22-10-2004, 02:10 PM
In the review is nothing mentioned and in the readme of crusader stands only that you have to type the cd-drive-letter where the game is installed, and then there should be no problem with the directories. Iīve done it before...

What are the controls for the game?! I'm going insane :wall:
I can't do a simple crouch, I swear I've pressed every key.
Insert gives me a roll to the left, which is what i use when i need to crouch, lame.
I figured out some/most of them, but I'm sure I'm missing alot.
Thanks!

I believe the downloaded version doesn't include the videos. Can't say for sure since I own the game.
Taking a guess as to your problem. If you're in the area I think you are, then there is a time limit (you can here a beeping sound in the background for a timer). Once the time runs out, it switches to a cutscene showing the troops landing and it is game over. You probably just need to restart the level and move faster.

hi,
i could run this game in DosBox but is too slow for an AthlonXp 1800+, so I had set-up an old sistem: P200MMx 48 RAM. Unfortunately in real DOS (6.22) I always get in an error: " Unable to open file static\typeflag.dat in file File\File.C line 102"
i tried different configurations with memmaker, qemm97, also using the boot-disk from this site. using qemm i get in multiple errors.
colud someone list the contents of autoexec.bat and config.sys of a working configuration (running Crusader in MSDOS) ?

Dragoon, use the latest version of Doxbox, 0.63, I can run no Regret just fine using an XP 1700+. Make sure you adjust the cpu cycles to 10000 or so using Control-F12.
I got the game to run, but now I have problems viewing the videos (the actual game itself runs fine). The video playback is very slow and choppy and the sound cuts in and out too. I have selected small video and have not chosen 16 bit color in the setup menu. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I have the problem that no music is playing. All Options seems to be configured right.
Soundblaster Pro 220/5/1
I ca hear the Sound FX but no music. I donīt know where the problem is.
if you use dosbox then it's
soundblaster pro 220/7/1

Well thats not the problem. I even tried to change it to 220/7/1, the sound FX does work perfektly but i dont have backround musik. If you open the file "install.exe" you hear after completing the sound setup musik. But when I start the game the music is missing. Gunfire, Speech, general Soundeffects work perfekt but the backround music like I know from CD Version is missing. Or is the downloadable Version without music?

If you disable sound there's no choppiness (although there's little fun in that...) Otherwise you'll just have to stick with it

Hey all, I'm simply using DOSBox 0.62 and if I enable sound on the game it gets EXTREMELY slow... I set it all correctly on the game installation menu, and I was wondering if this is some issue with this version of DOSBox or if I just need some other software to correct it. I'm using a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1.
Another thing, if it's not illegal and there's server space and bandwidth, is it possible for someone to contribute with the CD version?
Thanks!

Could someone please tell me (who has working musics) what is says in CRUSADER.CFG on these lines:
port=0x220
irq=7
dma=1
soundcard=2
I can't enter the install because it gives me an error, so I'll have to set it straight from the settings file.

This game is the greatest, i'm still having some problems running the file i dled offa here last night. but if all goes well i'll be playing in no time. If i ever come across this i'll be sure to buy it. i loaned it to a high school "friend" and never saw it again. this of course is no suprise as the game kicked some serious as for PC games in 1996. uploading an iso is a great idea. i'd be more than willing to contribute if i ever come across the actual disc. i'll let you guys know.
videos are a blast. especially the intro, funny as heck! the man in the iron suit just blows them away! :rifle:
its just like C&C 95 guys. you just gotta have that blocky crappy video with bad acting and all... hahaha!

There's out an editor for this game, i think is for (no remorse) too.
At fact, is for play Ultima 8 on win32, but can edit too. Anyway in their web there are nice screenshots from something what likes an editor for Crusader.
Someone noticed it?

ah yes another thing....
i discovered a secret place in this game.
i think its one of the neatest easter eggs i've ever run across...
problem is, it has been so long i have no idea how to activate it. but hopefully sharing what i know, someone will be able to rediscover it.
when you see what happens, you will laugh a lot at the creative genius of the people that made this game. a really funny cutscene happens (not a movie, so you guys will be able to watch it!)
anyway, its in level two i think (the map with all the di cor, the map that looks a lot different from those other maps you been playing. theres a lot of the engineer type guys in the yellow suits with the clipboards. also guards have more shotgun ammo than ever before. theres a lot of radioactive di cor laying around, and there are these gun things that shoot lasers at you if you set off any traps. i think its called mision 2 anyway...
whatever, in this very first map of "mission 2", there is this place and i think the wall opens up. you might be able to teleport there, but i think the wall opens up. if i remember right (6+ years ago...) its in a north west portion of the wall, north west of the room you have to "run through the gas you cant turn off". however, i simply cannot remember how to open up this wall. there are a lot of switches in the map i cant figure out what they do. i thought if i hit every switch once, and headed back, the wall would probably be open, but... that didnt do it. i hope someone figures this out, cause i'd replay the whole game just to see it again, it makes the game a WHOLE LOT EASIER too, and you'll see why if you find this easter egg ;) :Brain:

So I remember playing no remorse when i was kid, and i found this site and decided to download chapter 2, no regret. Ive downloaded dosbox, play a few other games on it, works just fine. but when i try to play this game i keep getting this error when I try to start the exe file:

and then it aborts the whole process, if anyone knows what my problem is, assitance would be greatly appreciated.

I have that same strange problem too, with the latest 6.3 version of DosBox. After running the "csnrgrt.exe" -file it created IDATA-subfolder, but there's nothing in it due to the abortion.

WEC's sound isn't going to work unless you can convert it back into the original sound extension that Origin made it from. Mp3 files will not work either. I may be able to pull the music off my broken CD of No Remorse, which you can just rename and listen to that. (I think). If you would like me to try email me at isaacroberts316@hotmail.com.

OK I have a rar of amf files for this game, but the only music I hear actually in the game is the menu music. Of course, I have only been playing this game a little bit and havent even beaten the first level, but I think the names of my amf files are off. I Downloaded them from the WEC site and used the mod2amf program to turn the mod files into amf files. (yes that took forever). If someone has the cd, could they post a message with the names of files in the sound directory? If I had this, I might be able to tweak the files to work.
To crouch, press the 5 button on the numpad. I played No Remorse like a maniac with the 5123 buttons and the directional buttons of up, down left right. No mouse. Did you know you can drop your weapon with CTRL L? No remorse had that ability, and it would always refresh your ammo. The GL-303 and AR-7 are awesome if you always have a few more shots....

The music that I have for this game seems to work now that I have beaten several levels. Apparently the first level seems not to have music, then it adopts the menu music. Anyone know the reason for this?
Anyway, the AMF rar I have made is 5.5 megs, and you would unrar this into your sound folder. This would give you music, because I downloaded this game and it works for me. I would more than willingly trade this for FLICS :D .
Of course, If you have the music you undoubtedly have the flics to :cheers:

I couldn't buy it because it was rated M, and my Pappy wouldn't let me get it with my own allowance.
Cost 50 bucks back then too.
Luckily, my brother drove me to the store and I bought it then.

i know. chill. just joking around. i too have found the version that contains no videos/datalink. of course i want to see them for entertainment purposes, but i thiiiink i recall that at some point in the game, you actually need to hear what the datalink says, as in, someone gives you specific instructions as to what you have to do. . . .if that happens, then we without videos are screwed, cause there's no way i can remember back 10 years. . .

Hello whoever may see this...
I have this game and the music files (in mod format) but I can't figure out how to get the music to play.
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
The sick thing is that I have had the CD for this game lying around for about 3-4 years. I was never able to get it to work. I finally gave up and two weeks ago I threw it away while doing some cleaning... and now I find a way to make my downloaded version to work...go figure!
LOL
Thanks in advance.

Bummer.
Oh well - thank you for the info.
Another question - I'm stuck on a mission and I've been looking online for a walkthrough but cannot find one.
Does anybody know where I might be able to find one or how to get past my current location.
I'm on mission 1 on level 4.
I need a keycard to open a door, however I cannot locate the keycard.
I've killed everybody on the floor as well as all of the mechs.
I hit the switch to extent the 'light bridge' and raided the box of goodies it leads to, however there was no keycard.
The data link may provide information on what I am supposed to do next, however with the verison I'm playing all of the videos are gone.
I love this game and I'm stuck.
That's worse than Hell.

First of all...
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate that.
Secondly, I have checked that FAQ and unless I'm misreading something (you know, the error lies between the keyboard and the chair!) I cannot seem to find any information regarding the part of the game I'm currently in.
You know... LOL
I have looked at that FAQ at least 10 times and I never caught what I just did!
(for the record, I am a rather sharp knife and build my own machines and network)
I just found what I needed in order to get past the current part of the game.
Some of the time, you cannot see the forest for the trees!
Again I want to thank you for taking the time to reply to my posts.

Having gone back and looked over the FAQ again, I see the info I need is not there.
I'm really stuck in this part of the game.
I need a blue keycard and I cannot seem to find one anywhere.
I've killed all the people and mechs in the area.
At this point I'm starting to wonder if I didn't accidently destroy the keycard when I blew something up.
blastradius14
07-06-2006, 04:30 AM
Only way I've seen a keycard go boom is when it falls into acid. It might have gotten thrown across the room though. Explosives can do that. I've had a medikit stuck in the side of a wall flying off of a blown up container type thing. You never know :ok:

Use DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net).
You can download it here (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1).
If you have any problems with it, try having a look at the official FAQ (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php) on the DosBox site.

These are fantastic games! I have them both on my computer, and I play them as best I can on XP. Although it has already been discussed here, my only advice to playing on XP is to use dosbox and/or VDMsound and crank the CPU cycles up. I also found it helps to have some frame skip in Dosbox. I've looked everywhere and read suggestions and solutions, and these games seem to be very demanding on modern PCs running dosbox. I think you basically have to settle for skipping sound and jerky movement, but it can be reduced by tweaking values in Dosbox. As for the movies, ISOs of these games can be found. Although I own both my copies, I know there were torrents floating around out there not too long ago.

So I have Win98
I downloaded the game then installed it and then clicked on the exe and it asked me if I wanted to allways start this program in dos, i said yes.
Then it took me to dos and started loading up the game but when it got to loading maps it seemed like it froze up, nothing except powering down would exit. Then as soon as I powered on again it would try and load the game again and lockup. I'm not that computer savvy so the only way I could get it to stop was to boot windows in safe mode and delete the crusader files.
It will start windows now but it still tries to start the game when I turn on the pc....
So the questions are, how do I stop it from trying to start the game when I turn on the pc and if you had any idea of what makes it freeze when loading the maps?
I'd really appreciate any help, thanks.

You should have performed a complete DOS reboot first. Complete.
Right now, it seems Windows has modified your Autoexec.bat or Config.sys (or both). Use a bootdisk to start your machine and have a look at these files - try to locate any references to where Crusader was located and remove these. Remember to back up the files first, that's some sensitive stuff you'll be messing with.

Hi Girls,
to run the game just extract the whole downloaded data. Then leave win.rar and go into the just created order "Crusader 2 - No Regret". Double-Klick the CSNRGRT.EXE and wait till its finished.
Some people could play the game at this point just by starting the regret.exe. I had not that luck.njava script:emoticon(':wallbash:', 'smid_18')
-----It might be necessary to edit
crusader.cfg to change the cd drive to the drive letter that you have the game.
For example, if you installed the game to D:\REGRET, then change the line that
says "cdletter=c" in the crusader.cfg file to "cdletter=d" without quotes.-----
DO THIS and then start regret.exe. It worked now, but i could be that you will also have to run the install.exe before.
Hope this helps!
I'm stuck on level 1 floor 2. I can't find the computer that stores password to the elevator keypad.

Any help would be appreciated. :)
EDIT: Ok, I found it. The code was on the on-wall computer to the north. Geez, there were no such computers in Remorse.
So, how about them macs...
I'm trying to get this game running on a macbook pro, and double-clicking the CSNRGRT.EXE is proving to be difficult, since we simple folk have no prgram that recognizes the .exe file extension. Ergo, I cannot unzip all the necessary files (apparently). Ergo, I cannot play game.
Has anyone gotten this to run on a mac, or have any insight as to what it would take to do so? Any help at all would be appreciated. Cheers.

It's a self-extracting RAR archive. Run that in Windows, and it will unpack the game. THEN run the game in Dosbox.
Or download a ZIP-archived game from Abandonia.

The messages you have posted imply CSNRGRT.EXE is a self-extracting RAR archive.
Therefore, if you are unable to unpack its contents normally, this is what you must do to to get to them:
1. Download and install WinRar.
2. Run it and open CSNRGRT.EXE as you would a RAR or ZIP archive.
Then unpack the files you find in there.
As a side note, you didn't download that copy of the game from Abandonia, did you?

You could probably find a non-ripped copy of the game in some P2P network. That, or ask for it in our ISO Cellar. However, you'd have to register and reach a certain postcount to get there.

First, you need this file: http://oldfiles.org.uk/powerload/download/oakcdrom.sys
Download it and put in C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\
Then open config.sys and autoexec.bat using Notepad. Both files are in the root of your C drive, but are hidden so you'll need to change the Windows Explorer settings to allow displaying the hidden/system files. I presume you either know how, or can figure it out (it's quite simple).
Add the following lines at the end of config.sys:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\oakcdrom.sys /D:mscd001

And the following lines at the end of autoexec.bat:

But now another error message is being displayed, something like this:mscd001 device cannot be found...
Sorry, my mistake with the path for autoexec.
I've checked an old config.sys I've got here copied fromy my old machine, and it seems the lines in the config should go earlier in the file. Remove the additions and then look up where it already has the HIMEM.SYS mentioned for the first time. Add these lines as the ones immediately after it:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\oakcdrom.sys /D:mscd001
LASTDRIVE=F
If there's no such line, add these on the beginning of the file.
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\oakcdrom.sys /D:mscd001
LASTDRIVE=F
Also, remember that these cannot be done from the command line. You must put them in Config.sys and autoexec.bat to work right (IIRC there is some go-around, but there is no point in using it since it's more complicated than the normal way)

The file is set to read-only. Uninstall DOSBox and install it somewhere ELSE than the default Program Files directory (like C:\DOSBox).

this is what i did so far -
download the crusader 2 - no regret rar file.
extracted files to c:\crusader - now in there are 6 csnrgrt applications - 1 is csnrgrt.exe and the other 5 are rar files - which i why i dont get what u mean.

dosraider
09-02-2008, 08:59 PM
Hmmmm, see, sorry for that. Vista and dos applic ......
That's what you can do:
open dosboxconf again and look for:
[dosbox]
# language -- Select another language file.
# memsize -- Amount of memory DOSBox has in megabytes.
# machine -- The type of machine tries to emulate:hercules,cga,tandy,pcjr,vga.
# captures -- Directory where things like wave,midi,screenshot get captured.
language=
machine=vga
captures=capture
memsize=16
change memsize to 64 as this:
[dosbox]
# language -- Select another language file.
# memsize -- Amount of memory DOSBox has in megabytes.
# machine -- The type of machine tries to emulate:hercules,cga,tandy,pcjr,vga.
# captures -- Directory where things like wave,midi,screenshot get captured.
language=
machine=vga
captures=capture
memsize=64
Now be sure that those 6 files (5xCSNRGRT.r0x+ 1xCSNRGRT.EXE) are in the same folder that you mount as C in dosbox.
Input CSNRGRT , this will start the SFX' selfextracting archive' and will have enough memory in dosbox to run.
Have tested it and it works.
[EDIT]
As you said c:\crusader your lines will be
mount c c:\crusader
c:
csnrgrt
*Don't add those bold lines in dosboxconf, those are only needed once to decompress the archive.

i dont understand this part, can you go through the steps of what you mean?
Self-extracting archive is just like a RAR file, except it is combined with an executable code that allows the archive to be unpacked without need for a third-party program (that's why it's called self-extracting, duh)
i tried extracting one of the rar files and winrar gave me a message about invalid/corrupt information when it was extracting, and same if i tried to extract the .exe file.
Run WinRar first. Then from its manager window locate the executable file and try to open it. Don't be surprised, just see what will result.
and the other 5 are rar files
winrar gave me a message about invalid/corrupt information
Sounds like a multi-part archive (not uncommon, back in the days).
You might want to tell us the exact names of the files and the exact contents of the error message.

That's what I get when I try to use WinRar in Vista on the archive from AB:
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4251/crusadercn1.png (http://imageshack.us)
I can see the files in the WinRar explorer, but can't uncompress them :/
But you can uncompress it in dosbox as I described, just set mem to 64.
[Edit]
And double clicking them in Vista ... now yeah, it's a dos sfx, says enough :/
[Editē]
Maybe a reup in plain zip without those rar parts..... ?
[Editģ]
Now, Adamg gonna like this, tried it in 7Zip,-(was bored)- point it to that csnrgrt.exe, works. 7Zip that can handle those old RAR SFX flawless.

yay it worked - thanks a lot dosraider.
wow i cant believe it! i now have some few final queries
1. there is no music! if i remembered anything about this game - it was the music. i can hear sound when i use the install.exe to set up the game, but when i play it there is only sound effects and no music. help?
2. dosbox cant go full screen? :P
3. what settings should i use to make this game run at its best? the framerate is jittery every so often.
4. my final question - im seriously thinking of buying the full retail version game now because im feeling so nostalgic, but im just wondering will the game work on vista? would i have to use dosbox to run it again (no full screen etc)?
im asking this because i had this game before on CD but i was running it on windows ME or early xp or something and it didnt work then, so...
thanks again

relation to question 4, i want to be able to run the game in all its glory or it wouldnt be worth it..

Congrats.:) Enjoy it.
1: it's a rip, if you want music you need the full ISO or will have to buy the game. Even if you have the CD , it will run better with a mounted ISO (CD access, spin up/down times on modern systems ...)
2: ALT+ENTER
3:Edit dosboxconf again and check:
under header [SDL]
priority=highest,highest
under header [CPU]
core=dynamic
cycles=max
Eventually ingame hit CTRL+F12 to increase the CPU cycles (don't overdo it, set them too high and your game will become more jerky)
Close all that's running on the background and isn't needed. Dosbox needs plenty free CPU power. And Vista, now yeah, does a lot on the background.
How good the game will run depends of your hardware, crappy PC (RAM!)=crappy gameplay, but it should run better fullscreen.
4:Vista= dosbox.

wooohooo thx again dosraider youve helped me so much!
game runs as smooth as it gets on those settings for me - except in full screen, but i prefer to play with the small screen since the graphics arent as sharp as i thought they'd be in full screen.
wow i love it i cant believe how well i remember the first level - i solved the music problem by using the abandonia music player while im playing :P
anyway, in relation to your answer to question 4, vista = dosbox so im expecting it to run just like this but with the movies and music right? either way, ive put an order on this game already. i love it too damn much.

by the way i have 2 gig ram and dual core 1.7 ghz, so its easily enough. even though u said it'll run better on fullscreen - didnt really happen. just a heads up. i prefer sharper graphics anyway :)

Increase frameskip, and it will run smoother.
The graphics can be improved by modifying the settings for resolution, output mode and scaler in dosbox.conf.

could you tell me what settings to use for it to run smooth and have sharp graphics at fullscreen for me then? - my monitor is widescreen 1200x800 if thats any help
im good with computers, but when it gets to working with code...

well i tried the frameskip settings anyway in both the game and dosboxconf and it makes movement choppy as i expected and i dont like the look of it - so i think ill just stick to the normal - smooth and sharp without fullscreen.
thanks for help guys and getting my fav game of all time to work for me :P
as i said before ive ordered the game - might need help with that later.
thanks again fifth horseman + dosraider especially

First, you only need to set frameskip to 1 or 2 at most.
Second, the fastest output setting for Windows PCs is ddraw. It also slightly changes the contrast in the image.
Third, Reccomended fullscreen resolution is 1024x768. Not sure if it would work correctly with widescreen display, though.
Fourth, try Normal3x scaler. HQ or Advinterp may look better, but they also require more processing power - I can't guarantee your machine will be able to run the game with them at a playable speed.

thanks, just waiting on the full game now.
by the way, if i increase memsize more, shouldnt that help the game run better also?

Now you can set it @64 in dosboxconfig, but 16 is plenty for crusader.
More then 64 is useless, dosbox -(as plain dos6)- can't adress more then max 64Mb.
Won't hurt to set it to 64, but won't speed up things neither.
The only thing you can do is cutting down all that's running on the background.
On your specs it should run smoothly.
I have an AMD64/3500+/1G RAM and when I boot Vista (32 or 64) I can run crusader smoothly in dosbox, so you certainly must also on a dual core with 2Gb RAM. (tough don't overestimate that 'dual' core thing, dosbox will run only on a single core.)
Hit ctrl+alt+del once, and look what's running, and more: what your CPU load is when nothing runs. Mine runs less than 2% idle load in Vista, all shut down. (0% in XP lolz)

Shouldn't you better post such questions in troubleshooting? The answers will go lost here in a clutter of other posts, when next one with the same question comes, we can start over again, and again , and again.
Whatever:
mount your C, mount your CDDrive as D, install the game from D to C.
And read this:
http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=14406
[Edit]
And you d'better create a full ISO from the CD, mount that ISO as CDDrive D.

Hi!
I just downloaded Crusader: No Regret, but I have problem with the videos, and yes I am aware of that the videos have been removed possibly in order to save some space or so.
Anyway I also have the original cd, it works and it isn't lost but when I installed it from the cd and was playing with DOS Box it lagged like hell! And yes I have tried to use the CPU cycle thing and frame skip but didn't get into playable laggynessness (Is that even a word?)
So now I downloaded No Regret from here and it works like a charm :).
Well except the videos ofcourse.
So is there anyway to get the videos work in this downloaded versio if you have the original CD in your possession?

Have you tried creating an ISO from the CD and then mounting that instead of having DOSbox use the CD. That can create a slight improvement on most PCs being that hard drive access is faster and more efficient than CD access is.

soooo, just so im clear, there is no way of getting the videos? wish i could! played no regret when i was younger and loved the video bits! is there anything i can try by using install.exe or anythin? any advice would be great!
cheers for the game abandonia!! tried downloading this off piles of other sites and none of them worked!

Trouble with key bindings...
This game looks really great and I remember reading somewhere about it long ago as a kid. Unfortunately I'm running on a laptop and is unable to efficiently use any Numpad keys.
(I don't have any next to my arrowkeys, only through holding down a specific "extra shift" ASUS button called "Fn" I can access those buttons through my keyboard.)
Is there a way to reconfigure this properly? I did notice in the config file that there are ButtonX switches. (See the following)
irq=7
dma=5
port=0x220
soundcard=3
sound=on
music=on
moviehicolor=true
subtitles=true
control=0
cdletter=c
flicpath=flics
musicvolume=48
soundvolume=58
mousespeed=2
mixrate=22050
animation=0
button1=0
button2=10
button3=2
button4=7
button1_2=11
button1_4=8
button2_3=5
button2_4=1
button3_4=9
limitblasts=false
frameskip=0
filter=true
lowresmovies=false
joystick=(0,0),(0,0),(0,0)
violence=true

I changed some sound blaster settings and I heard music playing when it tested.

I still have my original CDs of both No Remorse and No Regret and they run fine with DOS Box. In fact, I have DOS Box set to auto mount my drives for me upon startup and I found a slightly higher version of a DOS menuing system that I used to use big time back in my days called "Hard Disk Menu" version 4.5 from Microfox (I used to have version 4.3 but the functionality is pretty much the same as I remember) :cool: so I used that to auto-launch my games and they run fine.
In No Regret:
There's a real cool mother gem of a secret armoury room on the mission where you have to destroy an ore separator.
When you get to the ore separator, jump past the double-conveyor to the other side of the top section and follow it around until you get to a white first aid station. Continue past that (2 wall panels over) and you'll open a secret door to a teleporter. Enter the teleporter to get to the secret armoury. The armoury is in the shape of an E on it's side and the middle section will have a whole mother load of weapons and ammo and power ups. If you continue to the other side of the secret area, you'll come up to (and the computer will take over) a secret door leading to an alcove with a round firepit with a pentagram. The devil appears out of the flames and taunts you to the voice of Chairman Draigon saying "I've been waiting a long time for this! Prepare to die, Silencer!!", then just above left of the room, a photo appears of (in my opinion) one of the voice actors or one of the programmers pointing back at you, saying "You won't succeed!", The Silencer fires off a couple of rounds back at the devil sending him back to hell. When done, just walk back to the teleporter to exit the armoury.
:cool:
Enjoy....

Patch for game is sold, not the game itself. Quote the FAQ:
"2) Once the patch has been downloaded, you have 2 options, you can install the game from the cd, or, if you have misplaced the original or your copy has become corrupt, included with the patch is a link to a site where you can download the original game for free."

aha. so they're selling some sort of Windows patch for it. That's interesting.
The Fifth Horseman

They're trying to sell the game with a pre-made DOSBox configuration labeled as a "patch". Since they don't have any distribution license, they're hiding it behind weasel-words such as "backup".
It's nothing but a huge scam, so I removed the links.

I have downloaded in my PC and unrar it with winrar and I had no problem. You had problems unraring the "crusader - no regret.zip" file? or the files in it?
Have you tried using 7zip or some other unpacker? Have you tried downloading from another PC (preferable, one that isn't in your home)? The file works fine, so it could be a problem on the unpacker you use or your internet somehow is corrupting in during the download.
Isthe file exactly 31.192.045 bytes long (size, not size on disc)?

I'm trying to get the game to work in dosbox for a friend of mine. We've got past a few errors already, but he can't start the game.
Essentially, the game goes to the menu and all works until he starts the game...after the loading screen it crashes back to dosbox with an error message that says something like file halted... /cache/cache...
Anywho I've googled around a bit and others seem to have similar sounding 'file halted' problems at different places and for different reasons. I've got a sneaking suspicion it might have something to do with insufficient RAM. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this issue?
Thanks!
P.S. - Is there something wrong with the log in? I reset my password, but it says it doesn't recognize my username??

Maybe giving some more info? like mounting lines, place where you copied the game? your specs, etc? If you suspect memory, then try building DOSBox with more memory, you can edit how much memory you want to emulate in the config file of DOSBox (you can access it through the start menu). The line you are looking for is "memsize=" (without the quotes). Try changing the memory size a bit, but don't go crazy, I wouldn't recommend more than 64... in fact, I don't remember any DOS game needing more than 32, right now...
And about the log in, it seems that the registering bug is back again. Maybe one of the admins can manually approve you and fix your account. Try making a thread at the "Site comments/suggestions" forum
