For those having the problem with the CNCS 32 Dll. or whatever, here's a url...

Store it in the same directory as the game.

After returning from my surgery, I'm busy making a small game named Evil's Playground. It centers around you being a deity feeding and taking care of a monster while casting spells and ensnaring food.

Right now the demo is nearly complete and I'll be releasing it soon.

It's not anything amazing or big, but I do enjoy making it :D .

I'll post a few screenshots, here are some features the demo will have. (Very small demo)

Demo Features -
1. Feed your creature till it evolves to level 2, then wreak havok with it's new form.
2. Use fireballs to massacre the country-side.
3. Ensnare rabbits and people to feed them to your beast.
4. Feed your stronger monster coal and embers to give it a fireball ability.
5. Experiment with many spells.
6. Destroy a human encampment.
7. Read the instructions :D .
8. Music from Hexen
9. Maintain your evil force to cast spells, do this by destroying as much as possible, or wait for it to regenerate.

So far that's the low down, if anyone is interested I'll probably be releasing the demo a day from now, or maybe today.

Once I upload this, it'll be a completely new EXE, delete the older version, and keep this one.

Bug Fixes
-The cursor no longer goes behind objects
-Spawning creatures/items aren't off trajectory anymore
-The creature's collision detection is now properly trained
-Some counters and scores have been moved to keep from glitching up graphic-wise
-Coal now appears properly

P.P.S. Despite the screenshots, your monster does move down there, he just for some reason got in the same spot each time.

FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE CONTROLS

U is the universal "use" key, if you look at the spell icons in the "Power" bar, you will see each of them have a letter, Blaze has B, Teleport has T, and so on. If you bring your cursor over the icons they will give you extra info on the spells.

R is the "cancel" key, if you have a spell selected, press R to revert your cursor to normal, or destroy a skeleton you are controlling.

To cast a spell, press the hotkey, example - Press F for fireball, you cursor should change, now put the cursor where you want to shoot the fireball, over a tree for example, now press U.
Get it? F selects fireball, U casts it!

To use Skeleton, press S to select the spell, bring your cursor over the corpse of a dead human, press U, he should ressurect as a skeleton.
Now press the arrow keys to move the skeleton, and space bar to attack.
If any other spell is cast or you press the release button, he is destroyed.

To teleport items, bring your cursor over a rabbit or coal, then press T to select the spell, press U over the rabbit or coal and it will appear in your "Food/Hunger" bar, now bring your cursor over the food and/or coal and press U, it will appear in your creature's lair, bring your cursor over the rabbit/coal to attract your creature towards it.

To use blaze, press B to select it, then press U anywhere, creatures will be blown away.

Now, for the most confusing spell, to use Dark Tower, set a patch of grass on fire (the green stuff that waves back and forth) to do this shoot a fireball at it, now, press D, put your cursor over the coals, and press U, a tower will come out of the ashes and it will shoot lightning periodicly, no need for you to do anything else.

Those are the basics of the control mechanics.

Heh, it kinda is, but the tamagotchi has a tendency to grow massive limbs and smash people and small animals into bits.

Here's the process of feeding your creature...

Shot 1: Use the teleport ability to catch a rabbit... Note the piles of coal from fireballed trees.

Shot 2: Once captured, he will appear in the food bar, press the "use" button to put him in the monster's lair...

Shot 3: Now once in the lair, you can bring your mouse over the rabbit to attract your creature towards it.

P.S. The bar you see in the top right of the screen that increases when the monster ate the rabbit is the hunger bar, once it reaches the limit your creature evolves.

Remember to look back up, I'm posting the feeding process.

Note: Every now and then your creature has to rest, with some nice sound effects and animation, it's pretty neat.

From a developer's standpoint anyway :D .

Usually any shots with his mouth circled like he's snoring is when he is sleeping.

Most with his eyes closed and mouth normal is him blinking.
Edit: Look at older post to see the feeding process.

I'd really like people to comment.
I've made games many a times before, but this is the only one that I feel looks pretty enough and play well enough.

P.S. It took me about 2 days to get where I am with the game.
Two days of working from morning till night.

That kind of help would definatly be welcome.
The only thing the engine allows are sounds in Wav. format and MIDI music.
It sounds limiting but I've gotten by quite well.
The monster has a lack of good sounds so maybe you could help there.

Anywho...
The first demo release will be more of a tech demo. I want to see if people will find the engine easy and reliable. Along with that I want input on what I can improve. The proper demo release will have a few campaign levels, skirmish levels, and somewhat of a storyline.

Believe it or not Punch, I made this in the Pro Version of the Games Factory.

I have to make the events so complicated to pull it all off it's worse than programming.
(Believe me, I've been programming for years)

Sorry for double post...

I've created a new power! The skeleton!
Right now if you blow up a rabbit with fireball and use this on his body, you'll summon a skeletal beign you can control.

He's destroyed if you attempt to cast any other spells or if you press the release button.
He can kill rabbits and bring down trees for Evil Force (your mana). Or attacking the opposition.
Here are some shots.

Shot 1: Blow the bunny up! (in this shot the skeleton icon glitched a bit)

I also need some eating noise for when he, uh, eats.

I use Game Maker too, but I find it a bit clunky and unreliable.

Nothing beats a good old proven system.

But I have to admit Game Maker is a great and complex tool if you can use it right.

SDL is irrelevant to me.

The problem has been fixed, only one more thing to do and the demo will be ready.
It's going to be glitchy cause it's only a alpha (v. 01) So point out everything you can.

Okay, now you can download, be patient and wait, as the server is VERY slow...

HOLY CRAP, I finally got it working, Jesus that was annoying.
Be warned, it's very buggy
Feel free to make suggestions.
I've already decided a few things to change.

1. The rate at which food respawns is too slow.
2. I haven't added humans yet, or a human encampment.
3. There's very little to do right now.

All I need is input about the engine, spells, idea, and potential.

Be patient at the beggining and evolve your creature as fast as possible, then feed him some coal, it's so fun to have him shoot at things :D

You have to eat about 10 rabbits, they respawn every now and then. You know how to feed him right?

As for coal, you need to burn down trees with fireball, use teleport on the ashes, then use the ashes, you kinda have to push your creature towards the coals to make him eat it. (I don't know if I put in that he's attracted when you put your mouse over it).

Once he eats some cold the grey counter will go up, then when he evolves every now and then he'll shoot fireballs randomly upwards, depending if he has coal.

Edit: Did you find everything alright?

I mean you know how to cast spells and everything easy right? Read the instructions eh?

Good as gold and he goes and gets it perfectly

might wanna move where the food spawns when you place it he/she/it sometimes goes all the way up there and 2 feet away he/she/it turns around and doesnt even eat it sometimes.

It's a little problem that I'll fix, right now he/she/it has to touch it with her/its/his eyes, nose or mouth, he can't eat it without touching it completely.

I just fixed it. Now he/she/it will eat it whenever they're nearby.

Has anyone noticed how ugly the Blaze spell is?

In the version I released it's just a white implosion. I just updated it so it's flashing black and white, it looks WAY better.

P.S. The price of Blaze has been increased to 100.

Rabbits respawn more often now, so do trees.

BIG UPDATE: First human added, the tribal, attacks skeletons, otherwise not much of a threat. eats rabbits sometimes...

The new version will come out soon (most likely tommorow). So then you can see the sprite.
They will have a major role as the opposition, as your creature evolves, so do they become more intelligent.
Once your creature grows arms he will gain a life bar, humans can attack the arms to damage him, but he can smash them, so eventually it'll be a fight between you and the humans.
Humans will play a role in the story, and they'll be something to keep you busy from the tedious feed your pet style gameplay.

Check the first post in the topic for updates on the new version. Here's a shot of the human. The cursor is pointing at him.

He's a primitive, they'll become more interesting as the game goes on.

Eventually even you will be able to construct buildings and have minions to man them.

reminds me of the old game sinistar your enemy looks kinda kinda kinda kinda like your evil he/she/it and your charachter grows body parts and the enemy (you in sinistar) would have to attack them

Update: Human is now almost complete, you can kill them, they can kill skeletons, and you can ressurect skeletons from them, yes!

(Once humans are done, you can no longer create skeletons from rabbits)

I also have a request for anyone that's good at making graphics, I need a good icon for the game's executable.

hay it works its just soon as i hit play game i get a real load crankle noise its quite load with head phones on but i will be looking forward to later updates

Ok thanks.

That crackle noise is really loud because it's an event trigger that allows other things to work.

It's alot quieter in the new version so you won't have to cringe.
Can you give me your opinion and any input or changes you can suggest?

UPDATE: The new spell is called Dark Tower.
Once cast on coal, these towers shoot lightning in two directions every now and then (40 seconds or so) They will cost approximatly 150 Evil Force.

Perhaps you can put something in that allows the character to use the
"save game"'s name as the name of the character? Just force like 2 "saves" and then force the name to be equal to save a or something. Of course, then you could end up with something like character is save1 LOL
The "save" would probably be more of a save state, or a pause button :crazy:

Most game engines have a simple form of scripting.

Lets say the save game's script name is "savegamea"

Now, you make the "Character Name" type thing to = the save game name. That way people would save it to be what they wanted the char to be named.

I am not exactly sure how this would be accomplished with this engine though.

Speaking of the humans, you can no longer create skeletons from bunnies :D .
Only human corpses.
There's also a "hut" when you start the game now, which produces humans every now and then.

It gets annoying as they start cutting down lots of trees, so it gives you a reason to blow em away.

I believe double and tripple posting should be allowed in the proggramming section if he is announcing something new each time. Its not really spam its alot of work put into each update. so I truly see where your coming from raffles but there isnt much a reason why you should be harsh.

If you look at my screenshots you will see the text as it is, cryptic and such.
Tell me if it's off alignment or the font is different, or it's just jumbled around.

No, the cursor was still overlapping the fireball spell, you need to be really stingy and careful when you put your cursor over spells.

Mmm, probably, but more likely I'll start a thread called "Blood Pig Productions" (My company name :D ) and shove all my projects in there.

Bleed is going to be a side scrolling action / puzzle game.
It's gory and it has language, but it has so many weapons! And so many way for enemies to die!
Here are a few examples.

Striking a zombie with your sword. - Cuts him in half
Shooting a zombie with your Azure pistol. - Blows a chunk out of his head
Shooting a zombie with Uzi - Riddles him with bullets and he falls back in a pool of blood.
Shooting a zombie with a shotgun - Shreds his skin to a unidentifiable visage.

Heh, I ADORE those games, but yeah, it'll be heavily environment based.
An example of a puzzle in the game.

A electrical door with an electrical lock stands in your way, you shoot the electricity box to shut off the power, but now the door isn't supplied with with power, so it can't open, you use your sword on the wire leading to the door, cutting it in half, you then go up on a platform, shoot a toolbox that's out of your reach down, then find a micro-energy cell inside and use it to power the door, now it opens and the lock is disabled! Yay!

You have a blood meter too, which you can fill up, then shoot the blood out of your mouth, it works like acid and melts enemies.

Your basicly a undead version of your previous self, as you go through the game you become more and more as you used to be, along with this the blood you vomit becomes more powerful.

Then perhaps you shouldn't use getright? Just download it normally, the server isn't fond of download managers.

I have no clue why it doesn't want to download via getright, you'll just have to use IE or Firefox download.

Download managers suck unless you are downloading several gigs of filesize or something. Unless you aren't using broadband :not_ok:

You should put that as a warning on the bloodpig site.
