New Forum & Site Layout!

Well, as you can see we have switched to a new forum and implemented the new design! Naturally, things will be a little rough for the first week until we get rid of all the bugs, but everything should be functional!

I'd love to hear some feedback, as well as any problems you might encounter! Cheers!

Well, after looking around I do have some comments:
1. The links on the page (underlined blue) don't fit in with the rest of the theme at all
2. The ratings icons on the genre pages are not the same as the ones on the game's page.
3. The font's could maybe be a bit larger. Also the font used for the text isn't that great (a sans-serif font would look much better, Arial or even better "Trebuchet MS" (touchy one but brilliant font))

Other than those, the sites really great.

The fonts appear roughly the same size as in the preceding design to me....? In any event, I can see them fine. Before I got a 17" monitor and changed the resolution, I had problems with small font sizes at many sites.

However, I've been unable to upload avatars today. (within the size requirements.)

Also there's other, I think, heavy and quite strange problem - from time to time entire Abandonia (forum and main site)seem to load EXTRA ULTIMATELY SLOW like a slug with a broken leg. This happened to me and Puffin (I asked extra) today in the morning (at least in the middle-Europe time) and also in this moment it's alsmost the same - took me 30 seconds to arrive in this thread. :angry: :unsure:
Not that this is a problem on my connection - other sites load still normally, DSL-speed-like, but here it takes forever... :rolleyes:

There were some connection issues with the server that should be resolved by now.

And about the "Users browsing this forum" feature.... it exists! I just have to find where :P

I'll activate it asap. I've also given the order to Titan to take care of those smilies. We'll tweak this mofo to the limits, up until the point we love it, don't worry B)

EDIT: There, I've enabled the "Users browsing this forum" AND "Users browsing this topic" indicators. This will cost me 2 cpu queries per topic view so look grateful B)

Here a remark of a bug - when I join a Forum-section from the main forum's page with the new, yet unread messages, when I, after reading them, go directly to the main page again, the sections with the already read messages are still marked as unread, so you have to go again there and then to the main page to mark them as "no new messages available".

Yeah, I think we will increase the size. A lot of people have been complaining about this so we'll see what can be done. Are you talking about both the menu fonts AND news & review fonts, or only the font in the navigation menu?

At the moment personal photo is disabled. When enabled it allows you to *drum roll* upload a personal photo :)

Getting logged out for no apparent reason: I just changed the way the board handles cookies, so that could be the reason. However when the problem persists, do the following to solve it:
* Solution 1: Use the delete all cookies set by this board link you see at the bottom of the main screen, close your webbrowser and restart the webbrowser
* Solution 2: More drastic: delete cookies/temps/history in internet
explorer under internet options in control panel..reboot
computer...should fix

Cool, The link at the top is good. I open it in a new window anyways, so I don't mind either way. Oh and don't forget to update the tooltip thingy for it too :P

With the fonts, Its mainly the navigation menu, but now when I look at it, the other fonts for just the normal text does seem a little small.

Hahah... yeah, I see your problem. Same thing happened on my dad's computer where he uses firefox. Apparently it has the pics from old abandonia cached. Just hit hard refresh and they will switch to what they're supposed to be! :)

Invision Board 2 seems to work for me ok. It has a trial period which has no end date so you can use the trial as long as you want. It only says trial version next to the version of Invision Board.

Another thing about the forum is the poll, I seem to be seeing options with 120% to 500% and stuff like that and the bars run off the page.

It looks like you guys are re-doing the screenshots of the games? Need help? Which games are still to be done and what are the sizes? Also how many screens can you put on a page nowdays?

If you would like to help out with the screenshot game, that would be excellent.

Here are the rules:


Just find a genre, look at the games and find one that still uses the old screenshots. (Like Abuse in Action)...

Then I would recommend you use DOSbox for the screenshots. The reason? Well... Those snaps are the EXACT size we are after, so you don't have to resize them or anything.

Then just shoot like crazy. We need minimum 4 screens, but try to make as many as you bother to make. Remember we DO NOT need a new Title shot, just ingame ones.

Then just zip all your screens and send them to either me, Maikel or Kosta. It would be best to send them to me, since the other two are quite busy at the moment.

As for the pics. They are placed in the genres. Indiana is in Adventure. Duke Nukem is in Action. UFO is in Strategy and a Helmet is in Racing.

P.S. I made a Syndicate picture also, but Kosta felt like not putting it up. That one will be placed in the Fan Art Section, as soon as we have that section up.

That was why I made the UFO pic. It was meant for the Most Popular genre. And my Syndicate pic should be for Strategy, but Kosta went over my head and deleted Syndicate, and placed UFO in the Strategy.

So now. Most popular is empty. :(

Could I propose that we have a height restriction on signiture pictures. For example limit it to around 100 or so pixels. I really don't like looking through forums where the pictures in signitures are larger than the actual post.

on the forum I used to moderate the restriction for image signatures was:
Height = 125
Width = 500

so that means something like this:

I agree, even though even this is pretty excessive in size (90kb). For the time being I have turned off signatures for my account and I advise everyone else who finds them annoying to do the same in "My controls".

I think 125 in height is already rather large, as most of the time the content of your post will not even attain a comparable height with the height of your signature.

On some forums I use this banner which is only 60 pixels in height.
I think that something more than 100 pixels in height distracts too much from the actual content of the thread.

you have to use the mod cp. Select the topic and choose "Close topic" at the bottom
