I've never felt I had to comment on a game before... but I do now.

Get a joystick, get this game, then PLAY IT TILL YOUR FINGERS BLEED. This game is definately one of my favourite Amiga A500 memories.

It's fast, tough, addictive, sheer arcade fun.

That and kicking the crap out of each other of course.

T'was a great game but singleplayer stalled out cause you eventually had to start replacing your guys with transfers, and they were never as good as the later teams..

be brutal (remember it's calle d Brutal Deluxe). Try to tackle everyone you see. Once they stumble they loose the ball.
Oh andy try to avoid walking straight forward. Do it like the rabits!
Try to kill the other players!
Practice lots and lots and lots and lots ... :D

If you do the season mode then make sure that you start off against the worst team (Revolver I think).

Then upgrade one guy (ideally CF) and use his pace to do stuff like collect all the bonuses.

Upgrade down the middle first and do the wing players last. In the early games keep it simple and down the middle.

Yeeeeehaaa !!! :D

I played this game to death and beyond, just like its predecessor. Who says brilliant hard-crack-like addictive games must be over 0.5 MB ? You gotta love these guys, all their games are great.

Muchos gracias,

This game awakes some old memories in me, back to the golden amiga days..(i had really a relationship with my amiga 5000, because it was my first computer, and like in reality, you never forget your first Girlfriend/- you never forget your first Computer)
Speedball2 whas one of my favorite games on my Amiga 5000, well one of many.

Now with the multiplayer support for the PC version, it's even more fun to play SB2

Big thx! :ok:

Had Amiga version, and I bought GBA and PS1 versions (someone else mentioned it above), but nothing beats feeling with Amiga version of this game.

Awesome game, I played forever on my AtariST1040. The way to go for season play was to concentrate on grabbing all the coins to train *only* 1-2 players in your original team to full stats (300 was the max stat limit if I remember right). You could concentrate more on getting coins than scoring goals for the first 3 matches. The other half of my strategy was to look at the free agent speedball players that would come up for hire after every match...there would always be 0-1 players that were "superstars", meaning they had great stats and one over the 300 max score. Get those and put them where they would do best (you could move your trained ball players to different positions if necessary). At the end I would have 4-5 free agent superstars and my 2 fully upgraded players, which could always beat the snot out of the championship team.

looking for this game is what got me into older games and ultimately finding abandonia. enough said.

once you get the lead, i find its best to stop trying to score and use your fastest guy to just run around getting coins. it becomes easy with the transfers and a good CF, if hes really good you can just do a straight run.

the straight run
get the ball then just chrage straight into thier player, pass him the ball then tackle him and continue the same through the Mid and Keeper. it dosent work against really good teams. but with the first CF transfer he should be much better than the other teams players. i find it easier to do when scoring down field.

Player one

also throwing the ball so the keeper jumps, then tackling him as hes in the air was always a favorite way to score

Like many others here, I really LOVE this game! But I would like to try it out again, just for old times sake, but I just can't make it work. :help: I'm using DosBOX, which it should be compatible with, but when I try to run SB2.exe, nothing happens... Aaaaamazing!

I haven't played this game for years which raises a question about my memory. I'm sure I used to play it using the arrow keys on the kepboard, rather than the Q/A/O/P combination that is used now.

As I am a little less dextrous than I was then, does anyone know how to amend the keyboard controls?

Cheers.

Does anyone know exactly how the injuries work, other than what the manual and FAQs say (which aren't very helpful)? If a player gets injured, do their stats ever go back up again, or do I have to resign myself to trading them after that, because they are basically useless? Thanks!

This is an absolute classic. I have fond memories of the guy yelling "ice cream, ice cream"

The Amgia version was best by miles, the one they brought out for the playstation was awful.. just like the sensible soccer. It should have at least been 4 players, that would have made it so much better.

The futuristic violent basketball style sport game was done better though in a game called 'futureball' I think . . that was much more fun.

OK, it's running fine with DosBox, when you go ahead and get D-Fend wich is a
GUI-Interface for DosBox. If you got it simply run D-Fend, add a new Profile, use
the Wizard to configure Speedball2 and answer all questions with o.k. . Thats all. By now SP2 should run without problems.

Sorry, bad english over here

to all the people asking how to get it to run in dosbox: don't bother.

the PC version is inferior to the amiga version, which runs perfectly in winuae and euae, so just run that instead.

Pfft dont be babies! the controls are easy to get the hang of.

it runs fine from dosbox for me, but it might be hanging if your sound is not set up properly so run the setup first.

I usually play the cup not the season, its faster and you can get the super stars at any time. the best players you can buy are jensen in defense, Jams in attack, and selene in midfield. however, you generally can still upgrade their aggression if the rest of the team is maxed out.

as for gameplay - slide tackle works best from behind, and better from an angle then straight on.
goals are good points, but can be very hard to get...
if you get the chance to buy a great 'defender' early on, put him in left or right defence not goal so you can take him out and collect all the bonus'
the domes that give you points make GREAT scores if you have a strong player rebounding a ball off one. use the points multiplyer on either side and go ahead. scores of 80 or 100 points in single rebounding rounds are possible :)

i love this game, super nashwan are always a challenge : )

Yes I do, hit the stars on the side of the playing field, and then score goals, the stars multiply your score (the more stars , the higer your score for eferything, even injuring an opponent)

I used to love this game-- my favorite scoring technique was to run the ball up to the center scoring cone on my opponent's side (or whatever it is), get very close to the cone and throw hard into it. keep holding the button for max strength on the throw, and run with the ball all the way to the goalie, slide tackle him, and throw the ball in for a score.

someone mentioned earlier-- grab as many coins as you can, double your points by using the circular thing on the left/right. The stars don't double your score, they just give points as long as they are lit, or if you light them all-- but it takes too long trying to illuminate them all, and you're bound to get ganked trying.

get guys that are fast. I remember early on Quiss or something like that is a great forward.

I've just got this game on my phone, but it's got this odd start stop controls but brought back memories so i've got it working with dosbox, awesome game.

One way to score massive points - 100 or so is to get the ball through the loop de loop thingy and then curl the ball into the warp by throwing it along the sideline from above. So if you are playing up the screen go to the top right warp, go above it and throw the ball with curl into the warp, it hits all the stars and gives huge points.

I've found a quick and dirty solution to the controls issue if you're running SB2 in DOSBox using keyboard controls. When you've opened your DOSBox session, press CTRL+F1 to initiate the KeyMapper. Its a bit daunting at first but you can use the mouse to navigate the keymapper screen.

Simply ADD the following keybindings:

Make "Q" also = the UP arrow (or click on the Q key, click ADD near the bottom of the screen and press the UP arrow, for example)
Make "A" also = the DOWN arrow
Make "O" also = the LEFT arrow
Make "P" also = the RIGHT arrow

Just click the SAVE button when you're done.

Essentially, Q and UP perform the same actions and so on. Simply remove the key bindings when yer done.

If you'd rather use W, A, S, D where W = UP, A = LEFT, S = DOWN and D = RIGHT, then go for it! Choose whatever keys suit you.

Alternatively, use WinUAE - the Amiga emulator. That is a fantastic emulator!

Wow, playing SB2 again brings back some fond memories for sure1 ^_^

I remember a great cheat for building up team strength. When playing the first team, build up experience by making sure that the score is tied when the game is over. Keep replaying them all the while racking up experience points and trading players until you've got an almost unbeatable all star team. Then smash your way to Super Nashwan in the final!

There you'll find speedball, speedball2(imageworks) and Speedball 2: Brutal DeluxeCD32(Renegade) for Amiga.

Download was broken. File name was wrong and all that. Just fixed it and tested; it should be now working.

I've been putting off playing this again because i've got no joystick but i recently decided to play a few 'Manager' tournaments. This is the only way i ever got into the 1st Division on Amiga, decades ago, buying all star players.

But Manager is so frustrating as the team seems to play like a bunch of retards. Then i tried a Championship and discovered there's no Manager mode and very quickly got used to those odd controls.

Now i think the keyboard controls are actually pretty good (considering) as they aren't bunched up and you can mash away at space with your thumb.

Some of these questions were posted a long time ago but i'll answer them anyway:
What happens when a guy is injured? You have to retrain him. Don't get injured, basically. You can usually survive a guy going down but you wont get many other upgrades for the team.
Why did i get game over when finishing in 4th? Cause you have to be 1st (or maybe 2nd) in 2nd division to be promoted to 1st division.

Now i have a question; How much cash do you get for each coin collected? I played one game, got a couple of coins but lost the match and only had about 200 credits in the bank. XC

Anyway, off to try crack into 1st Division again.

Team Manager is impossible because to win you have to collect lot of coins from field. So the combo retarded (guided by AI) team and few money mean impossible to win.

Cup is very easy if you start against Revolver: 200 each coin!

Despite of this being an old thread (which is scary in my opinion, I'll tell you why), I have to post something here, too!

I've just watched the Top 100 of all time video games (of course this is one of thousands) of a game magazine and the first entry was Speedball 2! And I was like, hmm maybe the guys on Abandonia have it and here we are! I'll go give it a try!

Just tried my USB Competition Pro and it works really well in DOS Box. Sadly, the sound of the DOS version is nothing compared to the Amiga version. But I haven't been able to find a working copy of it online. The game always crashes if you try to play a game other than Practice...
